Chapter 5062 Nowhere To Go?
Chapter 5062 Nowhere To Go?
*Thud~*
An iron cage dropped to the ground and made a metallic noise, startling the people inside as they cried out in panic. Then, they saw the black-robed woman charging at them with a fang blade in her grasp, causing their hearts to leap into their throats.
However, she made a clean cut on the cage before turning around and walking to the campfire ahead, leaving them momentarily speechless.
Does this mean that they were free?
The first to walk out was the young alchemist who had first noticed the attack on the bandits and remained silent.
Her blue robe clung to her figure gently, embroidered with faint alchemical patterns that shimmered when they caught the firelight. It traced the natural curves of her body without excess, giving her an appearance that was both scholarly and alluring.
Her green hair fell in layered waved down her back like a fresh spring after rain.
A few loose strands framed her face, softening the sharpness in her gaze. It wasn't an ordinary shade but carried a faint luster, as if infused with wood-attributed energy, marking her clearly as someone attuned to the practice of alchemy.
Her eyes were steady, a clear sapphire hue that held both intelligence and restraint. They flickered briefly toward the black-robed woman before scanning the surroundings, already assessing danger, escape routes, and various other possibilities. There was no blind panic in them, only a controlled alertness that set her apart from the others.
She walked to the front and cupped her hands, the chains dangling, "My name is Thamana Deuce. I'm from the Deuce Pill Mansion."
Her voice resounded calmly, neither overly humble nor arrogant, "Our town descended into chaos, so we were forced to evacuate in search of fertile land with dense heaven and earth energy, but it was only when we met the bandits that we came to know that we were fooled into coming here, so I doubt that there is truly any fertile land in our destination."
"Regardless, I thank you for saving us."
She said, lowering her hands slightly as the chains clinked softly, "But I doubt this was done out of mere goodwill. Please state your demands."
Her words caused the others to stiffen.
Gratitude was one thing. Questioning a savior who had just cut through iron like paper was another.
But Thamana Deuce didn't appear to waver.
No one came to stop her since all of them seemed to have lower cultivation bases and status than hers. As for the powerful women, they couldn't be apprehended easily and were killed in battle. Hence, no one could stop her. They could only whisper to her to stop acting so tough when they were about to be sold and toyed with.
Noctis, Styx, and Ragna sat by the campfire, roasting strips of meat over a low, steady flame.
The firelight painted their figures in shifting gold and shadow, but none of them reacted to Thamana Deuce's words immediately, as though her calm questioning was nothing more than a passing breeze.
Ragna was the first to move.
He turned the skewer lazily, the fat from the meat dripping into the flames with a soft hiss. His lean shoulders remained relaxed, but the faint gleam in his eyes suggested amusement more than indifference.
However, he wasn't the first to open his mouth.
"There's a fertile land in the direction your caravan appeared to be heading, but I doubt it will last long under the transformation of the desolate air." Noctis said slowly.
He brought the stick-skewered strip of meat to his mouth and devoured it with a restrained yet satisfied look on his face.
"We don't require anything~" Styx let out an amused giggle, her voice no longer cold but slightly mature.
"You are free to leave or come to a new land with us, although I can't assure you you'll ever get out after that."
She said casually and licked her fingers as though she wanted to take a bite out of it.
Noctis and Ragna didn't seem to mind.
It was not the first time they killed bandits and saved the imprisoned. Generally, they gave them these two choices. They wouldn't recommend the first one, as this place was still home to wild magical beasts and feral beasts, but they were still free to make their own choices to leave.
But with the second choice, they could be taken to the sanctuary, although their freedom would be completely restricted by then.
"We have nowhere to go…" Thamana Deuce said absentmindedly as though she was still thinking.
Her sapphire eyes regained focus before she turned to look back at the other ladies.
Styx and the others didn't bother with them, continuing to take relish in their meal time. They were gluttons just like their mother. The whole time they were hunting and training their skills, not just assassination arts, they also ate three times a day.
With the advent of the desolate air, it was harder to replenish energy, and they were told to save energy-restoring pills from now on; consequently, they began eating like mortals. This was also the protocol if they found themselves in a place with no heaven and earth energy. Ironically, even if it were not for this survival training, they still had to eat like this after returning home!
Their mother also wasn't here as she went to eat a whole fat magical beast she found nearby. However, they couldn't be sure if she had left her doppelgangers nearby. In any case, they treated this as a trial from their mother before she was willing to give them her Deathhowl Revenant Wolf Blood Essence and even hopefully allow them to become Mythical-Tier, although they wondered if it was even possible since they were told that Mythical-Tier was a karmic bloodline tier.
The people they saved were not at all on their minds at all. It was either their food or bandits, and when it came time to sleep, pouncing on their mother's fluffy wolf fur and resting underneath the warmth of her beautiful wings were the only thing few things they could look forward to.
However, they did hope that their father was also here to teach them.
They were a bit worried over this matter since they were aware that he had gone outside the realm to deal with this desolate air somehow. They could only hope that he would succeed and return safely. Success still didn't matter as they felt like they could live like this, even thinking that this lifestyle suited them more as feys, but since their father wished to end the desolate era, they could only hope he would succeed.
"We've decided to go with you to the new land."
A voice came from the side, awakening them out of their savory and melancholic moments as they turned to look at Thamana Deuce simultaneously, slightly jolting her.
Why did it seem like she startled or offended them?
Still, she continued forcefully, "Behind me are a few alchemist apprentices and a lot of servants who are skilled in nurturing herbs and rearing magical beasts for their resources. They would be of great help to you, including me, since I'm a full-fledged Pill Emperor who passed the High-Level Immortal Emperor Grade Alchemist examination and am a Level Six Immortal Emperor."
