Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 4759 Dining With A Few Poisonous Snakes

Chapter 4759  Dining With A Few Poisonous Snakes

"Don't be so rude, Kalathi." A wind spirit harrumphed in displeasure.

He stood up, cupping his hands to Rioxys Plume, "Forgive our impudence, but we were invited to this peak yesterday by the Guardian himself. He issued a command, stating that you are to pick one of us men to be your fiancée in the future. Due to some kind of miscommunication, it seems that you haven't heard of it yet."

"What!?" Rioxys Plume flared, her expression sinking.

Killing intent emerged from her eyes, but she suppressed it, knowing it was her grandfather who arranged this. However, he did that yesterday, and today, he was still thinking about whether to send her away with Davis or not.

She supposed she had to swallow the presence of this unruly bunch and entertain them for just a day.

Davis, who took a seat and was about to unceremoniously start eating to distract himself from unleashing killing intent, paused for a moment.

He quickly understood that there were two different factions here.

One knew that Rioxys Plume was going to be poisoned here, and the other was those who were genuinely here to seek a connection with Rioxys Plume or were forced to come here by their elders.

Davis tapped his chopsticks against the bowl, a faint smirk tugging at his lips as he lazily swept his gaze over the gathered men.

"Rioxys," he said calmly, "Don't bother wasting your breath. Since they're not leaving, just think of them as overeager pets, drooling, tails wagging, waiting for a single scrap of attention. Feed them a look or two instead of food, and they'll roll over on command."

A few of the suitors stiffened.

Rioxys Plume's eyes widened, equal parts outrage and reluctant amusement, but before she could answer, one of the men slammed his palm on the table.

"You-!"

The fire-attribute cultivator with crimson hair glared daggers at Davis. "You dare compare us to lowly magical beasts?"

His aura surged ever so lightly, but even amidst his anger, he didn't dare harm Davis for fear of repercussion from the formation.

Davis raised a brow, completely unfazed.

"Oh? My apologies." He leaned back, voice dripping with mock sincerity, "Magical beasts at least have instincts even if they somehow lack intelligence. You all volunteered yourselves for humiliation when you entered here so rudely. That's several levels lower."

Rioxys Plume raised her hand and coughed into her sleeve to stop herself from laughing.

The wind spirit who had spoken earlier clenched his jaw, then forced a diplomatic expression.

"Human… I understand you are a special guest who saved Fairy Rioxys Plume. But this matter concerns the lineage of the Guardian and their future. It has nothing to do with outsiders like you."

Davis's smile vanished.

His aura sharpened, cold, refined, and chilling enough to silence the entire hall. Even the charm spirit sitting to the side paused, her rosy eyes narrowing with interest.

"Outsider?" Davis echoed softly, "You were told to present yourselves as potential fiancés. You think that entitles you to speak down to her… in her own peak? Watch yourselves, lest the Guardian himself descend to punish you all even before all the eggs could even hatch."

He tilted his head, dangerous calm settling into his expression.

A clear sense of animosity exuded against him from the Exalt Spirits. However, Davis looked like he couldn't give a fuck.

This formation restricted most kinds of violence. In this kind of situation, sitting beside someone whom they couldn't win against using their mouths was just courting death. Davis wasn't afraid at all in using his mouth to offend them all.

He was at the peak of his anger. If he didn't vent, he might explode with rage and killing intent, instantly turning all his animosity from the previous helplessnesses he faced in the past year against them all, especially Fairy Velvetmoon.

After calming down and mindlessly chugging the food into his mouth, Davis thought about the current situation.

He could understand why the Guardian would want Rioxys Plume to marry someone in the future by engaging her early. After all, his daughter had left with a lowly Mortal Tier Emperor Grade Spirit. How could the Guardian not be worried by this, thinking his granddaughter might follow the same path?

The male spirits in front of him were more or less all Heaven-Tier Spirits, some at the Empyrean Grade, namely that fire spirit called Kalathi and the wind spirit. They matched Rioxys Plume in terms of status and spiritline.

Besides, a marriage alliance would help the Guardian consolidate his power.

"Eat more~"

Rioxys Plume ignored the spirits and focused on treating Davis to a feast. Instead of taking her place, she sat by his side and occasionally threw a piece of meat into her mouth from his plate, relishing it more, which made the spirits feel envious.

Some of them had no idea who this human and some of them knew he had saved her, but what was the truth? He seemed pretty close to her.

Meanwhile, Davis seemed to be eating like a fool, but he was thinking.

'The table arrangement is strange…'

'Rioxys is forced to sit on my side instead of the other end like a host because of this situation… this was planned by someone who knows her a bit, which is of course Laviua…'

'Laviua herself is sitting on Rioxys's seat, which means she is the one who will be suspected the least after Rioxys has been poisoned. The ones closer to us would be suspected more, no less than lambs kept here for the slaughter, which means they most likely aren't affiliated with the ones who set this plan in motion. Once the Guardian learns that Rioxys is poisoned, he might harm these spirits after not being able to find the culprit, which might lead him to being stripped of his position as the Guardian by the formation or create some other vulnerability I'm unaware of. I see… this is an elaborate plan set for the Guardian to trip up…'

Davis didn't think spirits would be this scheming like humans, but it seems like the factor of age brought all races to the height of scheming and plundering.

He couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Regardless, he felt the Guardian wouldn't suspect him. After all, he had no reason to harm Rioxys Plume after getting her here. Since the Guardian wouldn't suspect him, the fault would fall on the spirits here. Even Laviua wouldn't survive.

Still, that didn't mean he could survive. If Rioxys Plume was harmed, he could forget about living, which means he also needed to rely on Laviua and her backing to survive.

He momentarily cast a glance at the seat opposite him and caught her dreamy figure, her lithe fingers gently scooping the dish even though she wasn't touching them as she took a bite and tasting with relish. Once she sensed his gaze, she cast him a faint smile filled with charm.

'Of course, she knows she's here for a suicide mission…'

Davis inwardly sneered at her, wishing he could rip that face apart.

But suddenly, he felt his body move on its own.

As Rioxys Plume was momentarily distracted by a suitor who argued with her, his hand sneakily reached out to the drink she savored and trembled.

"…!"

Davis instantly took his hand back and glared at Laviua, Fairy Velvetmoon.

'Time is running out. Don't force me to make you do it…' Laviua still cast a gentle and faint smile at him.

With one charming look, Davis could understand her intent as though they were speaking through their minds. It was unbelievable, but as ridiculous as it was, it made Davis swell with intense rage.

But he forcefully calmed himself once again, knowing he had to somehow warn Rioxys Plume and save her today.

The poison was potent, but it shouldn't kill her instantly. With his soul force that didn't reach the Exalt Stage, he had no way to save her or delay the poison from spreading, so he knew he absolutely couldn't let her get poisoned.

However, a group of spirits here came with the intention to die or were unaware that they could die. He knew they had prepared ways to poison or even kill Rioxys Plume of their own, even as the formation acts against them.

'Since they came prepared, warning Rioxys is useless. However, the fact that time is running out means someone is currently distracting the Guardian from levying his soul sense here… so I need to make a ruckus and attract the Guardian's attention? How…? My measly cultivation base would be suppressed before I could even-'

Davis's expression suddenly churned as his hand moved again on its own.

The wave of charm came again with pinpoint accuracy, filled with a subtle nature that was no different than a concealed attack. No one seemed to be aware of the Velvet Allure Moon Spirit's methods. She was again forcing him to poison one of Rioxys Plume's drinks with the poison pill.

'If you don't do it, someone else will… this is the only path for your survival… little human…'

There was no longer a faint smile on her face. Her elongated eyes turned sharp like a fox's, and her voice was attractive, her words tempting. Her lips curled in relish as she swallowed a fine piece of flesh, her expression full of allure.
