Chapter 663: Chapter 662: War of Attrition

The men from the Divine Palace attacked again. Lin Yun led the sixty surviving Demon Palace Warriors into the sky. They all wielded their Spirit Soldiers and watched the approaching Divine Palace army, not a single one showing any trace of fear.

When they reached Lin Yun and his men, only the Second Commander was present; the Third Commander was nowhere to be seen. Furthermore, there were only about a thousand Divine Palace Warriors following behind the Second Commander.

A cold smile touched Lin Yun’s lips as he looked at the Second Commander. Seeing this, the Second Commander asked grimly, "Lin Yun, how many men do you have left? I’ll ask you one last time: are you going to stand aside? Or do you want all these men to die with you?"

In truth, the Second Commander was already starting to fear Lin Yun. Otherwise, given the relationship between the Divine Palace and the Demon Palace, he would never have said something like that.

In the past, whenever the Divine Palace and the Demon Palace crossed paths, it was an immediate fight to the death. There was never any talk of "standing aside."

"Are you afraid?" Lin Yun asked with a faint smile upon hearing the Second Commander’s words.

At his words, the Second Commander’s expression turned frigid. He snorted. "Hmph! If that’s how it is, then don’t blame me. I’d like to see if you’re really made of iron. Kill them!"

Hearing the Second Commander’s shout, the thousand Divine Palace Warriors behind him looked grim, but they still obeyed his command and charged toward Lin Yun and his men.

Lin Yun and his men met the charge of the thousand Divine Palace Warriors. Each of the sixty remaining Demon Palace Warriors brandished a Spirit Soldier, and in the very first clash, dozens of Divine Palace Warriors were slain.

After two intense battles, and faced with such a huge disparity in numbers, the sixty surviving Demon Palace Warriors were rapidly transforming.

Now, with every strike, these sixty Demon Palace Warriors used the simplest, most efficient methods to claim an enemy’s life in the shortest time possible—a quality every qualified Warrior should possess.

Judging by the way they fought, these sixty men could now be considered qualified Warriors. Their strikes were fast, precise, and ruthless, leaving their enemies no chance to retaliate.

In less than half an hour, the thousand Divine Palace Warriors led by the Second Commander had been completely wiped out. Although Lin Yun and his men were in terrible shape—new wounds piled on top of old ones—they had managed to annihilate the entire force.

However, just as this wave of Divine Palace Warriors was annihilated, the Third Commander arrived, leading another thousand. The Second Commander had vanished.

Without a word, the Third Commander immediately bellowed to the thousand Divine Palace Warriors behind him, "Kill them!"

Hearing the Third Commander’s order, this new thousand-strong force charged toward Lin Yun and his men with the same dispirited expressions as the last.

They had just finished one battle and now had to fight again without a moment’s rest. Lin Yun and his men felt their stamina and Elemental Power draining away at a rapid pace.

But facing the oncoming Divine Palace Warriors, Lin Yun and his men still refused to retreat or show any mercy.

It was impossible to distinguish the old wounds from the new on their bodies. Their clothes had long since been dyed red with blood.

Half an hour later, Lin Yun and his men had successfully killed the thousand Divine Palace Warriors brought by the Third Commander. That was two consecutive waves of Divine Palace Warriors, both completely annihilated by Lin Yun’s group.

The Demon Palace Warriors behind Lin Yun were all gasping for breath, sweat and blood mingling on their faces. It was clear from their expressions that they were exhausted, but the hands gripping their Spirit Soldiers never dared to relax for even a second.

After the thousand Divine Palace Warriors led by the Third Commander were slain, the Second Commander reappeared, leading yet another thousand. Once again without wasting words, he pointed at Lin Yun and his men and shouted coldly, "Kill them!"

Three waves of Divine Palace Warriors, a thousand men each. Facing the charge of this third thousand-man group, Lin Yun and his men were utterly exhausted. But this was a battle, and they couldn’t simply surrender. As long as they were still standing, they would not give up.

They charged forward once more. Watching Lin Yun and his men locked in a bloody struggle with the third wave of Divine Palace Warriors, a cold smirk appeared on the Second Commander’s face.

The Third Commander had suggested this strategy to him: use a war of attrition to wear Lin Yun and his men down to their last breath. They had over ten thousand men; no matter how high Lin Yun’s Combat Power was, how long could he possibly last?

Once Lin Yun and his men were completely exhausted, the Second and Third Commander would lead the remaining Divine Palace Warriors in a final charge. They would surely be able to kill every last one of them.

"Anyone human gets tired. Lin Yun, I’d like to see if you’re truly made of iron," the Second Commander sneered as he watched the bloody battle.

Fighting amongst the Divine Palace Warriors, Lin Yun knew what they were doing. ’They plan to use their overwhelming numbers in a war of attrition to wear us down to death.’

But even knowing their plan, there was nothing he could do. All he could do now was defend this position to the death. He would not retreat a single step. He would hold the line and not let a single member of the Divine Palace pass.

With a single spear thrust, Lin Yun killed the last Divine Palace Warrior of the third wave. By now, he and his men had killed at least four thousand Divine Palace Warriors. This meant that of the original ten-thousand-strong army, only six thousand remained.

It was a terrifying battle record. To think that Lin Yun, with only one hundred Demon Palace Warriors, had managed to kill four thousand Divine Palace Warriors. ℯℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

And yet, despite killing four thousand Divine Palace Warriors, Lin Yun glanced at the men still alive behind him. Of the sixty who had survived the initial battles, only fifty-six remained after fighting these three waves. Four more had fallen.

The fifty-six survivors had long since become Blood Men. Old blood had dried into scabs, and as the battle raged on, fresh blood coated those very scabs.

When that fresh blood dried, it too would form new scabs. The layers on each man were already thick, making them look as if they were clad in armor made of blood.

They had been fighting fiercely for two straight hours and had slain three waves of Divine Palace Warriors, but still, there was no time to rest. The Third Commander arrived once again, leading another thousand men.

Looking at Lin Yun and his men, who were clearly a spent force, the Third Commander sneered, "Lin Yun, you will pay the price for your ignorance."

Hearing the Third Commander’s words, the corners of Lin Yun’s mouth lifted into what looked like a smile, but it was easy to see that he was now struggling immensely.

Ignoring the Third Commander, Lin Yun glanced at the fifty-six Demon Palace Warriors behind him. He spoke, his voice strained. "Our brothers are behind us. As long as we still have breath in our bodies, we cannot let a single person from the Divine Palace get past. Who among you can still fight the enemy with me?"

Hearing Lin Yun’s words, the fifty-six surviving Demon Palace Warriors roared in unison, "KILL!"
