Chapter 649: Chapter 648: A Heaven-Defying Array

An agonizing, swelling pain that was almost enough to make him pass out. Lin Yun clenched his jaw and held on for dear life. Once he entered the Array, the Elemental Power acted on its own; the only thing he had to do was endure it. Tolerate it.

’This Elemental Power...’ Lin Yun had never encountered Elemental Power like this. It couldn’t be refined or controlled; it was as if it had a life of its own.

Standing outside the Martial Arts Training Ground, the Grand Commander watched Lin Yun’s face turn pale. In his heart, a trace of admiration for the young man began to grow.

Of all the people the Grand Commander had seen enter this Martial Arts Training Ground for the first time, Lin Yun was by far the most impressive.

And this was only his first time. The spot where Lin Yun now sat cross-legged was already the absolute limit of what Zhang Qing could endure—and Zhang Qing had trained in this Martial Arts Training Ground countless times.

Even the Grand Commander himself had only been able to withstand the edge when he first entered this Martial Arts Training Ground. He knew all too well how torturous the swelling pain in one’s meridians could be.

The Grand Commander didn’t need Lin Yun to say a word; he could guess that he was enduring immense pain, gritting his teeth and pushing through.

’I wonder how long Lin Yun can last...’ the Grand Commander mused, looking at his pale face.

According to the records for first-timers in this Martial Arts Training Ground, the longest anyone had ever lasted was the previous Grand Commander. On his first attempt, he had endured for a full hour.

Lin Yun was so extraordinary, a heaven-sent talent. In the Grand Commander’s opinion, he ought to be able to match the previous Grand Commander’s record.

He stood quietly to the side, waiting. A quarter of an hour passed, then half an hour, and finally, a full hour had gone by.

’He really matched the previous Grand Commander’s record...’ the Grand Commander murmured to himself when he saw Lin Yun showed no signs of stopping.

However, an even greater surprise was in store for the Grand Commander. He had assumed Lin Yun was about to leave when he slowly opened his eyes and stood up. But instead of walking out of the Martial Arts Training Ground, Lin Yun took another step toward its center.

"Lin Yun, don’t be reckless!" the Grand Commander shouted in concern.

Hearing the Grand Commander’s voice, Lin Yun had no strength left to speak. He simply gave a slight nod to show he was alright.

Lin Yun took another step toward the center of the Martial Arts Training Ground. With that single stride, the Elemental Power grew even more violent, its speed increasing as it coursed through his meridians.

That one step doubled the pressure. Not daring to advance further, Lin Yun sat down cross-legged once more. He bit down hard on his lip, and soon, the skin broke, trickles of fresh blood flowing out.

Another half hour passed before Lin Yun finally walked out of the Martial Arts Training Ground. He had lasted a total of one and a half hours. His record for a first attempt surpassed the previous Grand Commander’s by a full half hour.

It was a truly unbelievable achievement. The Grand Commander helped Lin Yun over to a wall to sit down, then formed another Seal Technique. The Array, which had been shimmering with white light, grew calm and dormant once more.

Leaning against the wall, Lin Yun was on the verge of total collapse, but a faint smile played on his lips.

This Array was truly incredible. Absolutely incredible. The Elemental Power within wasn’t meant for raising one’s Cultivation, but for tempering the meridians.

It was common knowledge that the speed at which Elemental Power circulated through a person’s meridians was a major factor in determining their Combat Power.

For instance, if two people of equal Cultivation fought using the same Martial Skill, the one whose Elemental Power circulated faster would be able to unleash a more powerful technique.

It was a matter of Explosive Power. The faster the Elemental Power circulated, the greater the force one could unleash in an instant.

To put it simply, this Array was designed specifically to train a Martial Artist’s meridians. It used violent Elemental Power to repeatedly assault them, strengthening their resilience and thereby allowing them to support a faster circulation of Elemental Power.

In just one and a half hours, Lin Yun could already feel that his meridians had become tougher.

Although the experience within the Array was grueling, forcing him to constantly endure the swelling pain in his meridians, such suffering was a small price to pay for such miraculous benefits.

No wonder the Grand Commander and his men, despite only being at the Celestial Spirit Realm, possessed the Combat Power to rival experts at Spirit Realm Minor Achievement. The reason was that their meridians were incredibly tough, giving them an immense instantaneous Explosive Power that far surpassed that of ordinary peak Celestial Spirit Realm Martial Artists.

After resting against the wall for a full quarter of an hour, Lin Yun slowly got to his feet. His face was still pale, but it was clear that he was in high spirits.

Seeing that Lin Yun had recovered somewhat, the Grand Commander couldn’t understand why he had pushed himself so hard. He gave Lin Yun an odd look and said, "You’re a real madman. Could you not feel the agonizing pain in your meridians?"

Lin Yun just smiled faintly at the Grand Commander’s words. He had his reasons for pushing himself so hard; he would never pass up any opportunity to increase his strength.

Looking at the Grand Commander, Lin Yun asked with a smile, "Grand Commander, um... can I come back here to train in the future?"

"Of course. If you want to train here again, just let me know. But don’t push yourself as hard as you did today," the Grand Commander replied with a smile. Then, he led Lin Yun away, and the two of them left the underground plaza.

After leaving the underground plaza, Lin Yun and the Grand Commander parted ways. Lin Yun returned to his small courtyard alone. Truthfully, he absolutely loved the Array in that underground plaza.

The ability to enhance the toughness of his meridians meant that both his offense and defense would be drastically improved by undergoing the Array’s ordeal.

That’s right—Lin Yun thought of it as an ordeal, because inside that Array, one had to constantly endure the pain radiating from one’s meridians.

A Martial Artist’s most fragile and difficult-to-heal parts were their meridians. ’If I could train my meridians to be incomparably resilient,’ he thought, ’just how much would my Combat Power increase?’

’Right now, I can’t even endure half the distance from the edge to the center. I can only imagine how terrifying the Elemental Power is at the very heart of the Martial Arts Training Ground,’ Lin Yun thought after returning to his room.

Now that he knew how incredible the Array was, Lin Yun naturally wanted to experience the most violent Elemental Power at its very center. He wanted to see just how resilient his meridians would become if he could withstand it.

It was a good thing the Grand Commander wasn’t there to hear his thoughts, or he would have surely called Lin Yun a madman. No one had ever been heard of withstanding the ordeal at the center of the Martial Arts Training Ground.
