Chapter 1753: Jessica and Lumine!
Chapter 1753: Jessica and Lumine!
Just when Max and Nancy came out of the cursed root region, the black flame sphere around them slowly shrank back into Max’s body, and the scorched smell of burned roots faded behind them as they entered a denser part of Witch God Valley.
The mist here was thicker than before, and the trees growing across the valley were twisted and pale, their branches curling downward like claws, while faint green runes appeared and disappeared across their bark as if something ancient was breathing through them.
Max had only taken a few steps forward when his eyes suddenly narrowed, and the spatial senses of his Dimensional Sovereign Body spread outward like invisible ripples, passing through the mist, the trees, and the broken ruins ahead.
"Battles are happening ahead of us," Max said calmly.
Nancy immediately became alert. "Battles?"
Max looked into the distance. "There are some elves there, and even some demons."
Nancy’s expression changed slightly. "Demons inside Witch God Valley?"
Max glanced at her. "Is that unusual?"
"Not impossible," Nancy said with a frown. "But if demons are involved with the elves here, then the situation might be worse than we thought."
Max’s gaze became colder. "Then let us go and see."
With that, his figure moved toward the distance ahead, and Nancy followed closely behind him. The two of them passed through the cursed mist like streaks of light, avoiding the twisted trees, broken stone altars, and strange pools of dark green liquid scattered throughout the area.
Soon, faint sounds of battle entered their ears. Sword clashes, demonic roars, angry shouts, and the tremble of energy spreading through the forest all became clearer with every passing breath.
In an area enclosed by several dead white trees, a group of elves were surrounded by demons and elves.
The surrounded group numbered only five individuals, and although each of them looked injured, they were still standing back to back with their weapons raised. Their clothes were torn in many places, traces of blood marked their arms and shoulders, and their breathing was heavy, but the determination in their eyes had not faded.
These five elves belonged to the third faction, the faction that had once been led by Max’s mother, Divine Queen Caelira, and from the hatred burning in their eyes, it was obvious that surrendering was not something they would ever accept.
The ones surrounding them, however, numbered more than twenty. Some were elves with golden and pale-green hair, dressed in bright armor marked by the symbol of the second faction, while the others were demons with black horns, dark scales, and cruel smiles on their faces.
Their mixed formation looked extremely strange, yet it was clear that they had joined hands for one purpose.
They were hunting the third faction members, and if they succeeded, the members of the third faction and the others would be sent back to the Elf Prison, where torture, humiliation, and endless darkness were waiting for them once again.
Among the five surrounded elves, the leader was a blue-haired female elf.
Her long blue hair fell down her back like flowing water, but around the back of her forehead, faint specks of gold shone through the strands, making her hair look cool and noble at the same time.
Her eyes were sharp, her face was pale from exhaustion, and one side of her shoulder was stained with blood, but her sword remained steady as she pointed it toward the golden-haired female elf standing among the encircling group.
"How shameless can you be, Lumine?" the blue-haired female elf sneered. Her name was Jessica.
The golden-haired female elf smiled faintly.
Her name was Lumine.
She was beautiful, with long golden hair, clear green eyes, and a graceful appearance that made her seem gentle at first glance, but the coldness hidden in her smile destroyed that illusion completely.
She stood calmly among demons and elves as if there was nothing wrong with the scene at all, and when Jessica’s sword pointed at her, she did not show even the slightest anger. Instead, her expression only became more amused.
Jessica’s eyes burned with disgust. "To join hands with demons, the mortal enemies of the elf race, Lumine, you and your faction have truly fallen too low!"
The other four third faction elves beside Jessica also looked furious.
For elves, demons were not merely enemies competing inside the Cosmic Ascension Conference. They were old enemies of their race, creatures whose history was soaked in blood and hatred.
Even though the second faction had already committed unforgivable crimes by imprisoning and torturing the third faction members, openly cooperating with demons still crossed a line that made Jessica feel nothing but disgust.
Lumine lightly brushed a strand of golden hair behind her ear, her smile calm and cold. "Jessica, you are still as naïve as ever."
Jessica’s eyes narrowed. "Naïve?"
"Yes," Lumine said softly. "You still speak as though honor matters. You still speak as though race matters. You still speak as though the third faction has the right to stand proudly after losing everything."
Jessica’s grip on her sword tightened. "The third faction lost everything because of people like you."
Lumine’s smile deepened. "No. The third faction lost everything because Caelira abandoned her duty, abandoned her bloodline, abandoned the elf race, and chose a human man over the throne that should have ruled us all."
The moment Caelira’s name was spoken, Jessica’s eyes became colder.
"Do not speak her name with that filthy mouth," Jessica said.
Lumine laughed lightly. "Even now, you still defend her. How touching."
Jessica’s voice trembled with anger. "Divine Queen Caelira was the rightful leader of our faction. She protected us when your faction schemed in the dark, and even after she left, you were still so afraid of her shadow that you imprisoned everyone connected to her."
Lumine’s eyes flashed with cruelty. "Afraid? No, Jessica. We were cautious. Your faction still carried loyalty toward Caelira. Your faction still believed she would return one day. Your faction still treated her bloodline as sacred. So yes, you were imprisoned. You were tortured. You were broken. And after this conference ends, those of you who survive will be dragged back to the Elf Prison and broken again until no one dares to speak Caelira’s name with reverence."
The four elves around Jessica clenched their weapons, and one of them shouted, "You will pay for what you did to our people!"
Lumine looked at him with cold amusement. "Will I?"
Jessica’s sword released a blue light mixed with faint gold, and her killing intent sharpened. "You hunted us all the way into Witch God Valley just to send us back to that prison?"
"Of course," Lumine said without hesitation. "Do you think we would allow the remnants of the third faction to roam freely inside the Cosmic Ascension Conference? This world gives everyone opportunities. Treasures, inheritances, legacies, bloodline resources, and perhaps even chances to contact outside forces. If your people grow strong here, you might become troublesome after leaving. So we will capture you now, send you back, and make sure your faction remains buried where it belongs."
Her expression turned cruel. "As for Caroline, I believe Seraphine and Fin should have taken care of her by now."
"You will regret this." Jessica said coldly as she heard about Caroline.
The demon leader chuckled and lifted his axe from his shoulder. "Enough talking. Are we killing them or capturing them? The longer we delay, the more people might arrive."
Lumine looked at Jessica and the four elves beside her.
There was no hesitation in her eyes now.
"Capture Jessica if possible," Lumine said coldly. "She has information about Caroline. As for the others, cripple them first. If they resist too much, kill them."
Jessica’s group immediately became tense.
The demons grinned.
The elves of Lumine’s side raised their weapons.
But just as the surrounding group prepared to attack, a faint voice suddenly came from beyond the mist.
"Interesting."
Everyone froze.
Lumine’s eyes narrowed.
Jessica turned sharply toward the direction of the voice.
The demon leader’s grip tightened around his axe.
From between the twisted white trees, Max and Nancy slowly walked out. Max’s expression was calm, but his eyes swept across the demons and the second faction elves with a coldness that made the air around him feel heavier, while Nancy, standing beside him, immediately recognized the faction marks on both sides and understood the situation at once.
Max glanced at Jessica and the four injured elves, then looked toward Nancy.
"They are from my mother’s faction?"
Nancy nodded with a serious expression. "Yes. Jessica and the ones beside her belong to the third faction, the faction once led by Divine Queen Caelira. Lumine and those elves surrounding them are from the second faction."
Max’s gaze moved toward Lumine, then toward the demon leader.
His smile became faint and cold.
"So the second faction is working with demons to hunt my mother’s people."
The moment those words fell, Jessica’s eyes widened slightly.
Lumine’s expression changed.
Nancy looked at Max’s back, and for some reason, she felt the air around him becoming colder than the cursed mist of Witch God Valley itself.
Max took one step forward.
"Good," he said softly. "This saves me the trouble of looking for you."
