Chapter 871: Chapter 870: Kill the Moon

The frantic girl’s voice faded into the distance, leaving only her echo reverberating within the empty palace.

Yu Sheng turned his head to the direction where she had disappeared, feeling as though the corridor stretched endlessly, the road repeating itself, extending into the dimming distance, vanishing at the edge of his vision.

The faint blood-colored moonlight lingered in the air, seemingly frozen in time.

Yu Sheng stood still for a moment, trying to call out to Erin from the depths of his heart.

No response.

He frowned slightly and reached into the air, attempting to open a door leading to the real world or the Soul Wilderness.

A phantom doorway appeared, but vanished like a bubble in the air within moments.

Yu Sheng gazed at the lingering shadow in the air, pondering with a furrowed brow.

After a moment of thought, he waved his hand, and strands of blood emanated from his arm, transforming into a blood-colored spear in his grip.

Yu Sheng immediately felt his connection to a certain "Blood Trace" strengthen, the spear serving as an amplifying medium, instinctively guiding his gaze in a certain direction.

What seemed an infinitely extending corridor a moment ago now had an end in his eyes, the path ahead becoming clear.

Yu Sheng held the blood-colored spear in one hand, walking forward along the corridor.

He walked for an unknown length of time before pausing briefly, turning his head to look beside him.

A massive oil painting hung on the corridor wall, the heavy black and red colors smeared chaotically like a child’s graffiti, barely recognizable as the form of Red.

Yu Sheng walked on, seeing a portion of the corridor’s floor crack open ahead, revealing the dark soil beneath. An eight or nine-year-old girl in a dirty red dress squatted on the ground, digging vigorously into the soil.

"What are you digging for?" Yu Sheng asked.

This girl, unlike the previous "Red", showed some reaction to Yu Sheng’s presence. Although she didn’t lift her head, she still answered as though talking to herself, "...I buried them underground... I have to dig them out..."

Yu Sheng watched quietly for a while, shaking his head.

This isn’t the one he’s looking for.

So he continued forward.

Soon, he entered a hall. In the center of the hall stood a throne, and a majestic figure clad in a black and red dress sat on the throne, looking sternly at Yu Sheng as he walked in.

Two rows of valiant soldiers with swords and spears stood beside the throne, with wax figures of citizens in various outfits scattered throughout the hall, all lifelike.

Yu Sheng shook his head again—this wasn’t it either.

He walked straight through the hall, the queen on the throne slowly turning her head with his movements, her eyes authoritative and bright, only melting into wax dribbling from the chair to the floor after Yu Sheng stepped out of the throne room.

After walking forward for a long time, Yu Sheng suddenly saw a somewhat unexpected figure.

Gray-white hair, seeming about ten years old, wearing a cute dress, lying on the ground drawing something with a pen on paper.

Yu Sheng approached, and the little girl lifted her head, her nearly faded gray eyes shining brightly.

"Baili... Qing?" Yu Sheng stared, astonished at the childhood version of the White-haired Dragon Lady before him, momentarily uncertain why she appeared here.

But the next second he realized—this wasn’t the real Baili Qing, but a childhood image of Baili Qing from Red’s memory.

...After all, the appearance was quite different, this "Baili Qing" looked a bit "too cute" compared to the original Yu Sheng once saw. The big eyes were like through a filter, the face had a chubby, baby-like plumpness, and most noticeably was the fluffy pink princess dress... Yu Sheng doubted even Baili Qing in her young dragon phase would wear such clothing.

"What are you writing?"

Yu Sheng noticed the notebook on the ground, instinctively asking.

"Math homework," the little Baili Qing (Red’s beautified memory version) said, looking up.

Yu Sheng: "..."

This indeed seemed like a beautified memory version.

"Who are you?" the little girl curiously asked next.

"I’m looking for Red," Yu Sheng crouched down to her eye level, smiling warmly, "Do you know where she is?"

Seeing "Baili Qing" here, Yu Sheng felt that Red whom he sought must be nearby.

The little girl thought for a moment, pointing to a door beside her, "Mom is outside."

Yu Sheng looked up, realizing he hadn’t noticed a door there before.

When he turned back, the little girl had vanished, leaving only a notebook open on the ground filled densely with the repeated sentence:

"May you not open the door."

Yu Sheng thought for a moment, casually tucking the notebook into his bosom, then turned to approach the suddenly appearing door not far from him.

He pushed open the door, and outside was a terrace-like place, with palace structures stretching endlessly on either side, the sky filled with chaotic dim light, and a boundless blood-colored ocean slowly rolling in front of the terrace.

A thin figure dressed in a white long dress sat at the edge of the terrace, her back facing Yu Sheng, seemingly gazing into the distance.

Yu Sheng walked over, sat directly next to her, and did not speak, simply looked at that endless blood-colored ocean together.

He waited with patience, until after a long time he heard the person beside him speak first: "Why have I forgotten?"

Yu Sheng thought for a moment: "Forgetting is the gift of death, it is greatly beneficial for easing pain... but I guess that’s not what you want to hear."

"...When Kant and the Chairman found me, it was in a blood lake that was almost dissipated. They said the blood lake floated in the debris and ruins left after the evaporation of order, and my condition was completely different when I established contact with them. They said at that time I had lost my memory, and my mind became... extremely unstable."

Red turned her head, her eyes tightly shut at the moment, her expression appearing very calm.

"The Chairman said at that time I was very dangerous, and pollution left from the end of the world was reflected in my eyes — he and Kant tried many ways, but could not strip the pollution from my sight, even including removing my eyeballs..."

Yu Sheng curiously asked, "So how did you later..."

Red gently shook her head.

"It might be the collision in the Boundary Land, or something that happened in the process of ’era alternation’. Even the Chairman lost a lot of memory during these processes, and I only remember that starting one day, I closed my eyes, and some shadows that kept entangling were sealed in darkness...

"I think it was then that I truly and thoroughly forgot the things of the Hometown World, at least... came to an end."

"Facts prove, they are still here," Yu Sheng sighed lightly, looking at the blood-colored ocean in front, "Those things you forgot, they’ve been piling up in the fault of the Boundary Land... Information doesn’t extinguish, it just changes form."

Red didn’t speak, just nodded gently, then went dazed like that.

She knew she should leave, and knew it was time for things to be settled.

The pollution and collapse happening in the "Tree Angel Forest" were still spreading, and the pollution of the Dark Moon Royal Court must end here.

But she still wanted to... stay a little longer, just a while. She wanted to look at the flowing blood once more, a few minutes... even half a minute would do.

Yu Sheng didn’t rush her.

Here is the end of time; he could wait a long time.

"Alright then," Red suddenly said, she gently sighed, slowly stood up, looking at Yu Sheng, "Thank you for your patience."

Yu Sheng also stood up, gripping the blood-colored spear in his hand.

"This was once my weapon," Red glanced at the spear in Yu Sheng’s hand, speaking calmly, "Now it’s yours... it likes you."

"Its mission is to kill the moon," Yu Sheng said, "You must have given that command momentarily."

"Yes... it ought to be completed," Red nodded lightly, "The last shadow of the Blood Moon is reflected in my eyes, my last glance at the Sanctuary back then caused this pollution to remain until now... Now I bring it back to the place it was born, only here, this matter will end completely... You should know what to do, right?"

"I didn’t know before, now I do," Yu Sheng weighed the spear in his hand, "It just told me."

"...Won’t it hurt too much?" Red suddenly asked, adding a playful tone to her usually graceful demeanor.

"Probably a little?" Yu Sheng thought, "But this isn’t the material world, it might not hurt. Anyway, you can’t die."

Red laughed.

Outside the terrace, the blood sea began to surge, blood-colored moonlight gradually enveloping the sky.

Red turned to face Yu Sheng, spreading her arms, then slowly opened her eyes.

Two moons reflected in the Queen of Dark Moon’s eyes trembled violently in her hollow gaze like agitated hearts, an ancient Otherworld civilization’s persistence, obsession, heritage, and death, along with a bit of dangerous power from the Great Annihilation... all immersed in the gradually overflowing moonlight.

"Come on."

Red softly said, her figure rapidly enveloped by moonlight, the rationality and warmth in her words dissolving in the inhuman tremor.

"Kill the moon..."

Yu Sheng, without hesitation, raised the spear and thrust it out at the moment the Blood Moon took form!

"Doorway" area, the edge of the twisted Forest Sea, the last part yet untouched by the collapse, Baili Qing was organizing manpower, sending off a batch of the most important equipment and some personnel first.

But at that moment, she suddenly felt something, sharply raised her head and looked deep into the forest.

At this moment, moonlight was spreading over the entire Forest Sea, and the large mirror rift had expanded a few minutes earlier; standing in any corner of the forest, it could be seen clearly — yet as Baili Qing looked over, she found that the surface of the mirror rift was already covered with large and small cracks.

It seemed it truly became a mirror about to shatter, being destroyed from within by someone.

The moonlight in the sky quickly weakened, the Otherworld scene within the mirror rift gradually disappearing into the darkness, as the cracks continued to grow, the entire forest’s collapse and pollution seemed to be paused.

Then came several seconds of quiet, the whole world fell silent, until faint cracking sounds echoed above the forest.

"Crunch..."

The space rift pointing to the Dark Moon Royal Court just vanished like that.
