Chapter 862 - 861: She... and Them
Chapter 862: Chapter 861: She... and Them
The girl who looked only eleven or twelve years old, with a resemblance to Red, obviously couldn’t see Yu Sheng either—she walked towards the center of the hall, directly ignoring Yu Sheng who was standing in the way, her body intersecting with his like a phantom.
Yu Sheng blinked, his gaze following the frail young girl, he saw her stop beside the pitch-black mirror, then looked up at another "Red" on the opposite side of the mirror, who seemed to be an adult.
"Good news... any yet?"
The girl asked softly.
However, the "Red" standing in front of the mirror had no reaction, she remained silent, her hands overlapped on her lower abdomen, like a dignified and elegant, lifeless statue.
Yu Sheng frowned as he saw this, puzzled about the state of the Red staring at the mirror, and even more puzzled about the relationship between the two "Reds" before him—could they be mother and daughter? Or sisters? Or...
At this moment, there was a slight sound of footsteps nearby, interrupting Yu Sheng’s thoughts.
He immediately turned towards the direction of the sound, then was instantly baffled.
Yet another Red, who looked to be eleven or twelve, appeared by the pillar, wearing a similar white dress, but with slightly shorter hair, and barefoot.
The girl cautiously walked this way, similarly ignoring Yu Sheng standing in the middle of the path, her figure passed right through him, and under Yu Sheng’s astonished gaze, she directly walked to the same position as the previous "12-year-old Red", and the two figures overlapped like illusions, merging into one in the blink of an eye.
After which, the merged "Red" raised her head and asked the figure in front of the mirror, "Good news... any yet?"
Yu Sheng: "...?"
He looked at this bizarre scene in front, full of question marks, then seemed to sense something and suddenly glanced towards another direction in the hall.
Sure enough, another "Red" appeared in his view, this one looked even younger, appearing only seven or eight years old, wearing a somewhat tattered dress. However, unlike the previous two "Reds", she didn’t head towards the center of the hall but wandered aimlessly inside for a while before leaning against a crooked pillar, sitting down, hugging her legs and burying her head in her knees.
Yu Sheng stood there baffled for a while, brainstormed for two minutes, then frowned and stepped towards the direction where the young Red came from.
The giant pillars leaned askew in a corner of the hall, as Yu Sheng rounded the pillar, he saw that behind it was a corridor with a chaotic structure, a crooked path extended into the dimness, branching paths appeared on random walls, ceilings, and even on the ground, with some rift-like, broken mirror surfaces floating throughout the corridor, reflecting scenery from unknown places.
He saw another "Red" appear in the corridor, looking sixteen or seventeen, she walked and stopped beside a mirror, then her figure suddenly blurred, and in Yu Sheng’s astonished gaze, split into two figures.
One looked taller and more mature, dressed in a luxurious black dress, continued walking towards the hall, while the other became a girl around ten years old, standing dazedly at a branch in the corridor.
Yu Sheng continued walking slowly.
This path seemed endless, with complex branch structures leading to new corridors or halls, some branches directly led to a dark space, as if stepping forward would fall into infinite nothingness, while some branches seemed like infinite loops, walking along would return to the starting place.
Yu Sheng had no clear goal, he just kept walking forward, aimlessly wandering in this building where time and space seemed to have lost order.
He saw many Reds, possibly a dozen, or even more.
Some were seven or eight years old, some eleven or twelve, some adults, with long hair or short hair, some wandered aimlessly in this gigantic twisted maze, while others just stood or sat in some corner, some split out of other "Reds", some merged with others while walking.
The only thing in common was that they all ignored Yu Sheng wandering in the maze.
Yu Sheng gradually understood—
All here were "Red", from different periods, states, even under different "possibilities", in a sense, each one was the essence.
In this resonance left at the end of time, the complete Queen of Dark Moon had been torn into countless individuals.
Yu Sheng finally stopped in a place almost identical to the initial hall.
There were similarly many peculiar leaning pillars, a dome structure standing to one side of the hall, but the center of the hall lacked a mirror, nor was there the Queen of Dark Moon silently observing the mirror, only a fragmented mirror rift quietly floating in mid-air, about a meter off the ground.
A reddish moonlight shone through the rift into the hall, the rift reflecting a serene night sky, a deserted small town bathed in moonlight, at the end of the town stood a collapsed church.
Yu Sheng approached the mirror rift, realizing this should be the exit.
But he didn’t leave immediately, instead stood before the rift and looked back at the hall.
A "Red" in a worn dress was sitting dazedly on the ground not far away, ever since a moment ago she had been in the hall, and now still hadn’t moved.
Yu Sheng thought carefully for a moment.
This place was just an illusion, possibly even a "second-level dream realm" nested under the dream realm of the town ruins, accurate "door-opening coordinates" couldn’t be left here.
Yet, leaving just like that seemed like a pity.
When faced with a dilemma, the traditional skill is employed.
Yu Sheng rummaged in his pocket and took out a bloodletting knife made from Luna’s Fingertip Blade (in another sense, a nail clipper) and made a cut on his arm.
A few drops of blood emerged from the wound, trembling as they floated in the air.
With a thought, Yu Sheng transformed the blood droplets into a red mist, silently dispersing in the hall.
The black-haired girl in the corner showed no reaction, still sitting there numbly, until suddenly another "Red" split from her figure, muttering to herself and staggered into the labyrinthine corridor.
Yu Sheng shook his head and turned to the shattered Mirror Rift.
As he approached the rift, the mirror began to tremble, ripples spreading from the distant image of the town ruins, seemingly breaching the boundary between reality and illusion, undulating through the hall.
Yu Sheng felt a sudden imbalance in gravity, followed by a whirl of heaven and earth, everything before him shattering and reassembling rapidly.
Just as Yu Sheng felt himself traversing a lengthy dark corridor, he glimpsed a faint red moonlight amid the endlessly extending darkness.
In a daze, he sensed a slender figure appear beside him, running along with him, while indistinct sounds echoed in his ears—
"Are you ’good news’? Are you ’good news’..."
Yu Sheng abruptly turned his head and saw the darkness collapse, moonlight bright, the slender black-haired girl standing on the church square, her eyes tightly shut "looking" this way, with a hint of worry in her expression.
The shattered moon fragments scattered around, the bloodstains vanished, leaving only pale rock forms.
The fox girl was at his side, supporting him, her two fluffy tails continuously patting his back and shoulders, while Erin stood opposite, wide-eyed, suddenly raising her hand and shaking it vigorously: "Hey! Hey! Awake yet? Awake yet? Yu Sheng, are you okay?"
Yu Sheng shook his head, the dizziness and confusion in his mind gradually fading, but the remnants of the recent memories and the impact on his Mind from facing the twilight of time left him momentarily unable to distinguish between reality and illusion.
Luckily, the persistent patting from Hu Li’s tails swiftly brought clarity.
Any longer in confusion might lead to being beaten to death—this was a Body Cultivation Nine-Tailed Fox, with tails swinging in the air that could make a sound as if breaking through space, and the fluffy tails striking the back were akin to two adult dumbbells.
"Did I pass out or space out just now? How long did it last?"
Yu Sheng said as he gestured to Hu Li to retract her tails, then grimaced while moving his lower back and shoulders.
"You just stared blankly with open eyes, like you lost your soul," Erin immediately said, "It lasted maybe three to four minutes? Anyway, it was when this thing cracked and you froze as well."
The puppet said while poking at the gray-white moon fragments on the ground with a thin sword.
"...I was just caught in an extra ’Dream Realm’," Yu Sheng rubbed his forehead, "Or maybe something like memory shards."
Red’s voice immediately sounded from the side: "Extra Dream Realm?"
Hearing her voice, Yu Sheng instinctively glanced at this "Vampire Descendant" a few more times.
Various "Reds" of different ages and postures flashed through his mind like slides, twisted and eerie apocalyptic scenes and those whispers in the darkness flooded simultaneously, making him momentarily feel a subtle pressure.
"I’ll tell you later," Yu Sheng continued rubbing his slightly swollen forehead, while his gaze fell on the pile of debris on the ground, "Let’s first see what’s left from this thing... Hmm? Where’s its heart? Who picked it up?"
"I was just about to tell you," Erin spread her hands, "This thing didn’t leave behind a heart!"
Yu Sheng was taken aback: "What situation? No heart?!"
Beside him, Hu Li nodded vigorously: "Yes, Savior, during the few minutes you were zoned out, we’ve checked everything, apart from the pile of stone-like debris, there was nothing else."
Yu Sheng instinctively furrowed his brows.
No heart?!
Could it be because this is merely Red’s "nightmare," so the small moon here is some kind of "fake"? Or because not every small moon naturally possesses a heart? Only those with the "Moon Heart" are exceptions... Or, the reverse might be true?
In the end, the "Parasitic Moon" Yu Sheng has seen actually amounts to only two, one parasitized in the lighthouse, another in the church, and with so few samples, naturally, it’s difficult to deduce any patterns.
"Let’s not worry about the heart for now," after a brief thought, Yu Sheng shook his head and turned to look at Red standing not far away, "Let’s first talk about what I saw during these ’few minutes.’ It’s related to you."
Red restrained her smile and nodded slightly: "What happens here is certainly related to me."
"No, I mean, it’s very much related," Yu Sheng spread his hands, "I saw a bunch of you..."
