Chapter 861 - 860: Echoes of Time’s End
Chapter 861: Chapter 860: Echoes of Time’s End
At this moment, the ground shook violently, and even though everyone present was a superhuman, they all felt dizzy and their blood surged in this terrifying and continuous explosion impact.
The entire Moonlight Church was shrouded in rising smoke and dust. A large amount of debris shattered from the enormous structure like an avalanche. Meanwhile, several tanks on the other side of the square continued firing, one shell after another whistling down on the supporting structure of the lower church, continuously expanding the damage area of that gigantic construct as if they cost nothing (and indeed they didn’t).
To be honest, due to limited preparation time, the demolition team hastily assembled by Yu Sheng didn’t have the time to devise a precise demolition plan. Besides, the church itself underwent significant deformation and reorganization during the activation process, causing a considerable portion of the pre-planted explosives to become ineffective. The remaining ones couldn’t guarantee to detonate at the optimal position, all these factors combined led to a significant waste of yield in the entire demolition operation.
But this wasn’t a significant problem because Yu Sheng’s approach was more straightforward and crude—when technology is lacking, replace it with yield, when precise demolition is not possible, use sheer brute force and quantity to fill in the gaps.
After all, the detonators and explosives brought by the Valhalla Corps were all conjured in the Soul World using the force of mind, and Dorothy’s troops needed no more than three buns and a bowl of noodles for a sortie (high school students eat a lot). Possibly the most expensive thing in the whole operation was the few Fox Radish Missiles pre-installed in the church’s belly, which could be reimbursed at the Special Service Bureau canteen later...
Now, the majestic and colossal Moonlight Church finally wavered amidst the intensive explosions and direct fire—the surface of the church was torn open, leaving horrendous holes. Although the blood-colored moonlight continuously repaired those scars and even seemed to partially counteract the external attacks, in the end, this bizarre power was no match for the united demolition team assembled by Yu Sheng.
Amidst the horrifying shockwaves triggered by the aerial bombs, one side of the church’s supporting structure was finally fully destroyed. The blood-colored moonlight flickered several times in the explosion dust, but the entire building irresistibly tilted to one side.
The small moon floating in the church’s doorway contracted and expanded violently, eerie off-tune bells clanged from within the huge entity. However, the leaning church suddenly sprouted two limbs, seemingly a mix of flesh and rock, from its side and in their frenzied flailing, they braced against the buildings on the edge of the square.
But bombs had also been buried in the houses surrounding the square.
All visible structures were potential demolition points that could be activated at any moment.
After all, Dorothy was a cautious commander—had more time been available in the cycle of this Dream Realm, she would have buried two 1000-pound aerial bombs in every building (including ruins) in the entire town, while setting up artillery positions in four directions outside the town.
After two more consecutive building detonations, the invincible Great Cathedral fell.
The red moonlight flowing through the cracks in the outer wall was nearly exhausted, the limbs continuously extending from inside the church seemed to have drained the enormous structure of its energy and usable material, reducing its size by almost half. After many walls collapsed, what was revealed was a thin shell.
The upper part of the church fell to the ground, the grotesquely twisted doorway structure crashed into the middle of the square with a roar, and the small moon rolled out from the church’s doorway, still releasing eerie blood-colored moonlight, wriggling and expanding like a piece of overloaded flesh.
The small moon seemed to want to float, it struggled to ascend, pumping out streams of red—it’s hard to even tell if it was moonlight or blood—spattering onto the ground.
But at this moment, Yu Sheng had already charged forward.
The Blood-colored Spear trembled violently, and Yu Sheng unhesitatingly infused power into the spear’s tip, feeling the blood-forged connection, he thrust into the surface of that small moon.
In a trance, he seemed to hear a frantic roar, and then the entire square fell silent. Those earthy creatures surging from various parts of the town collapsed instantaneously, and after a brief delay, a discontinuous and distorted bell chime emanated from the ruins of the collapsed church not far away.
The moonlight emanating from the small moon dimmed quickly, and cracks appeared on its surface.
However, at this moment, Yu Sheng suddenly felt a horrifying suction emanating from the spear in his hand!
He felt his blood instantly concentrating in one area, as if his soul was being drawn to some distant space. Countless intertwining voices echoed in his mind, and many faces emerged before his eyes.
Before he could make out the details of those faces, he felt his mind abruptly sinking, and then everything in his vision was swallowed by darkness, with vague shadows emerging from the darkness.
"All teleportation gates to others... have collapsed... there is no news from the expedition team, the observatory on that side..."
"Transfer underground... reconstructing the gravitational environment, able to last a thousand years..."
"What about after a thousand years? Abandon the surface entirely? We still have..."
"The queen will remain on the surface, and when the world is confirmed to be safe, she will open the gate..."
"The queen? The queen won’t last either..."
"This is not something we should be thinking about..."
Many murmurs leaked from the darkness, some sounded as if whispering nearby, while others seemed to originate directly from his mind. The speakers seemed to be nearby, many blurry figures swaying in the dark. But when Yu Sheng tried hard to open his eyes to see them clearly, all the figures vanished from his sight.
The surroundings brightened, light and shadow began to reassemble, darkness faded away, and Yu Sheng saw clearly where he was.
He saw himself standing in front of an enormous building, which seemed to be a fortress. Its extremely heavy gray-white stone shell seemed to have grown directly out of the earth, its form chaotic and grotesque, like a pile of stacked fragments. Whether it had been built this way from the start or had been twisted into its current shape by some unfathomable force over the ages was unknown.
However, the building’s appearance was far less astonishing compared to the sky above it...
Yu Sheng lifted his head, faced with a "sky" that could hardly be comprehended through reason or logic.
He saw countless chaotic colors intertwining, with strange geometric mirrors floating between them, like rifts leading to distant places. Reflected in these mirrors were shattered celestial bodies, hanging lands, rivers flowing in the void, and stars that had completely cooled, black as nightmares.
Everything was indiscernible in terms of distance, color, or even if they truly existed before him. Every item seemed to possess multiple essences and even multiple moments of existence. Just a single glance from Yu Sheng made him feel as if he had observed all the forms that endless things took across infinite branches of time—
A thought, a strong notion, whether it was originally buried deep within his consciousness or echoing around this space, intensely surged in Yu Sheng’s mind:
This is the place where time ends, burying all destinies since the birth of all things.
And in the depths of all these chaotic, mad colors and objects, a red light band quietly floated, as if it served as the "background for all things." This red light traversed all time and space, from the birth of the universe to this moment, at the end of the universe.
A strong feeling of dizziness and aversion surged from the bottom of his heart, and Yu Sheng furrowed his brow, retracting his gaze from the sky. At the same time, he raised his hand to summon the Blood-colored Spear, and his sight fell onto the massive building ahead.
Surrounded by a wilderness, all that met the eye were grayish-white gravel and some huge stone piles seemingly left after the fusion of ruins. The structure, still bearing some human-made traces, seemed the only worthy place to explore.
He stepped forward toward it.
In the next second, the massive building appeared instantly in front of him, as if his step forward caused the collapse of the spatial distance between himself and the building.
Yu Sheng instinctively tensed his body. He looked up and saw a grand door standing before him. The door seemed to have endured endless, changing years, yet it also appeared to have been influenced by the strange surrounding environment, with a layer of continuously changing colors covering it, altering its material, size, and shape constantly.
Yu Sheng hesitated for a moment and stepped forward to touch the door.
In the next instant, the door unexpectedly vanished, and he found himself transferred inside a building.
This was an upside-down, chaotic hall, with many crooked gigantic pillars visible around. Each pillar’s end was connected to platforms extending chaotically in all directions, and the massive dome stood tiltedly on one side of the space, while above the hall was a void of darkness.
And in the middle of this chaotic architectural structure stood a giant mirror.
A figure stood in front of that mirror.
Yu Sheng’s heart stirred, and he immediately walked towards it.
The figure standing in front of the mirror remained unmoving, showing no reaction to Yu Sheng’s approach.
She was pale and slender, wearing a long dress interwoven with black and red. Her long black hair almost reached the ground.
"... Red?"
Yu Sheng approached the figure, and upon seeing that familiar face, he felt little surprise. Although it seemed the figure wouldn’t have any reaction, he still tried waving his hand in front of her and softly called out.
He received no response. The woman, whose appearance was almost identical to Red, only stood there before the mirror, her eyes open as she gazed at the mirror as if she had been doing so for a thousand years.
Yu Sheng furrowed his brow and looked at the mirror following her gaze, but he only saw pitch blackness.
There was nothing in the mirror.
"What are you looking at?" Yu Sheng unconsciously asked again.
He didn’t expect to get an answer because he knew what stood there was merely a shadow preserved in the fragments of time.
The figure indeed remained unresponsive, just as he had foreseen.
At this moment, he suddenly heard some sounds, like cautious footsteps.
Yu Sheng immediately turned around, looking at the source of the sound.
A thin, petite girl stood there, nestled between two crooked pillars.
The girl wore a white dress, her long hair reaching down to her ankles, looking no more than eleven or twelve years old.
Yu Sheng was stunned.
Another "Red"?!
