Diary of a Criminal Investigator
Chapter 1011: Further Discoveries
Actually, the investigation on Sun Biao’s side has not been very smooth. Wang Meili’s daughter is very uncooperative with the police investigation.
“Her grandfather rushed over from out of town this morning. We have already handed over Wang Mei’s daughter to her grandfather, but during the inquiry process, Wang Meili’s daughter refused to say anything.”
Sun Biao talked about the investigation situation on his side.
“Of course, we didn’t directly ask about Wang Meili killing Zhang Chao, but just asked if there had been any misunderstandings or frequent quarrels between his stepfather and mother in the past period.”
Sun Biao remembered Lu Chuan’s words and did not take a direct questioning approach to Wang Meili’s daughter, but rather tried to inquire indirectly.
If what Wang Meili said is true, and Zhang Chao had domestic violence tendencies towards Wang Meili, then even if others don’t know, Wang Meili’s daughter should know.
If Wang Meili’s daughter doesn’t know about Zhang Chao’s domestic violence against Wang Meili, then Wang Meili must be lying.
Moreover, Sun Biao personally feels that it is impossible for Wang Meili’s daughter not to know that Zhang Chao was buried by Wang Meili under the kumquat tree.
“The pit under the kumquat tree is not very deep. Even though the soil inside can cover the body, wouldn’t the smell from the decomposition over the past year still come out a bit?”
Sun Biao continued, “Furthermore, according to Wang Meili, she killed Zhang Chao in their house. This means the house is the primary crime scene. Whether Zhang Chao was stabbed from behind by Wang Meili or stabbed face-to-face, there should be a lot of blood traces.”
“According to Wang Meili, Zhang Chao was domestically violent after drinking, and then Wang Meili stabbed him to death. If this claim holds, the time should be in the afternoon or evening. Even if Wang Meili’s daughter was at school, what time should she have been when she returned home?”
Sun Biao looked at everyone: “The school informed us that last year she was still in the second year of high school, and at that time, the evening self-study in the second year was relatively short, and students went home at 8:00.”
“So, could Wang Meili really handle the blood traces on the scene in such a short time and bury the body without her daughter noticing anything?”
Sun Biao shook his head, “The possibility of that… I feel is not high.”
Everyone mostly recognized Sun Biao’s judgment, but whether or not to bring up the matter or speak about it caused hesitation among them.
“Any other findings?”
Lu Chuan did not express a stance.
Regarding Wang Meili’s daughter, Lu Chuan’s attitude remained cautious. He just let Sun Biao investigate indirectly to understand the situation at the time.
It’s not about taking any measures against her.
“There is another situation, I found out when I went to the school today that Wang Meili took a leave of absence a year ago.”
Leave of absence?
Lu Chuan focused his mind, “When did she take the leave, how long did it last? Was it before or after Zhang Chao was murdered?”
Sun Biao replied, “The leave lasted a total of one month, and the reason was hospitalization.”
“Her exact leave started on October 25.”
When Sun Biao mentioned this date, it was after Zhang Chao was murdered.
Because the day after Zhang Chao was murdered, Wang Meili sent a resignation message to his work from Zhang Chao’s phone, and that day was precisely October 25.
This means that according to Wang Meili’s account, the time of Zhang Chao’s murder was the night of October 24, and on October 25, her daughter took a leave, and the leave lasted a month. Is this just a coincidence?
“The reason for her leave was hospitalization? What illness?”
Sun Biao shook his head, “I went to the hospital to investigate the related information, but there were no records of Wang Meili’s daughter having surgery or being hospitalized.”
“So, in actuality, Wang Meili’s daughter didn’t really take a leave of absence but just used hospitalization as an excuse to rest at home for a month, is that the case?”
Wang Zhaokai asked.
Sun Biao shook his head again.
“Today when I was communicating with Wang Meili’s daughter, her grandfather was tidying up the room and swept a business card from the gap under the sofa.”
Sun Biao glanced at it and took the business card back.
“This is a card from a psychologist’s office. I called in the afternoon to inquire about the situation. The other party said that Wang Meili’s daughter had received treatment at their psychology office. Then I went to the psychologist’s office for further investigation and discovered something surprising.”
Sun Biao took out a psychological treatment report.
“This is a diagnostic report issued by the psychologist’s office last year for Wang Meili’s daughter. At the time, she had a stress-induced psychological disorder. The specific reason was unknown to the doctor, and Wang Meili’s daughter didn’t tell, nor did Wang Meili say anything, only that the child had been stimulated.”
Sun Biao continued, “However, the doctor noticed at the time, in addition to the psychological disorder, Wang Meili’s daughter had some bruises on her body. When she went to the psychologist’s office, she was in a daze, asked a few questions about the situation, and the doctor made a rough judgment.”
“According to what the doctor said… it’s very likely Wang Meili’s daughter might have… might have been violated.”
Sun Biao’s words left everyone stunned.
After a long silence, Chen Jiang suddenly said, “Is it possible… that Wang Meili’s motive for killing Zhang Chao wasn’t domestic violence, but because of her daughter’s issue?”
“And even… could it be possible… that it wasn’t Wang Meili who killed Zhang Chao at all?”
After Chen Jiang’s words fell, the entire conference room fell silent, and it took a long time for anyone to speak.
If Chen Jiang’s guess is correct, then this is a serious issue.
However, everyone felt that Chen Jiang’s statement might be the truth because, in this way, any logical holes in Wang Meili’s account become filled.
First, everyone always felt that if Wang Meili wasn’t the killer, why would she take responsibility for the murder! Moreover, she actively helped the killer hide the truth this whole year.
It’s because the killer is her biological daughter. If Wang Meili’s daughter really killed Zhang Chao, then it makes logical sense that Wang Meili, as a mother, would take on the blame to protect her.
Second, the inconsistencies between Wang Meili’s confession about the murder motive and process, and the current police findings and site survey can also be explained.
Because she wasn’t the one who did the killing, so she couldn’t describe the murder process in detail. In such a chaotic situation back then, maybe Wang Meili couldn’t think that much.
She wouldn’t know that the police could determine the cause of death through examination of the remains.
