Devouring Sword God
Chapter 195: All Yin Corpses Appear
Chapter 195: Chapter 195: All Yin Corpses Appear
Yi Xiaoyao patted Little Hei’s body and praised it. Instantly, Little Hei shrank back into a Little Black Monkey, jumped onto his shoulder with a WHOOSH, and tucked itself into the hood of his cloak.
"I was careless just now. My apologies for alarming everyone."
Yi Xiaoyao smiled apologetically at the group before continuing, "But I imagine you’ve all seen how these Yin Souls attack now. We need to be extra careful from here on out."
Sword Wind Breaker and the others nodded. They had just realized that even if they destroyed the body a Yin Soul was possessing, the Yin Soul itself wouldn’t die. It would simply find another body to inhabit.
So, everyone was now on their guard. The next time they encountered Yin Souls, they would have to constantly be on the lookout to stop them from invading their bodies.
With that, the group started moving forward again.
After this incident, Sword Wind Breaker and the others couldn’t help but feel that not only was Yi Xiaoyao a monster, but the Demon Beast he’d tamed was one as well.
Meanwhile, Bo Hong and his four companions were thinking, ’No wonder this Yi Xiaoyao dared to enter the Ancient Tomb. It’s because he has such a powerful Demon Beast at his command.’
In their eyes, this powerful Black Ape was the true source of Yi Xiaoyao’s confidence.
As they walked, Chu Fei’er’s eyes flickered, as if she was turning an idea over in her mind.
"Hey, didn’t you promise the King of Shang you’d protect me? In that case, let me have your Demon Beast. How about it?"
Chu Fei’er demanded of Yi Xiaoyao. She had witnessed Little Hei’s power and was extremely envious.
Upon hearing this, Yi Xiaoyao shot her a cold glance and ignored her demand.
Agreeing to look after her was already going above and beyond. For Chu Fei’er to actually demand that Yi Xiaoyao hand over Little Hei... it seemed being a doted-on princess had made her accustomed to thinking the world revolved around her.
Leaving aside Little Hei’s importance to Yi Xiaoyao, he wouldn’t have agreed even if that weren’t a factor.
After all, even if Chu Fei’er were to die, what did that have to do with him?
"Are we familiar?"
Yi Xiaoyao asked Chu Fei’er indifferently. Given her previous attitude toward him, he felt no need to give her any face.
"You!"
Chu Fei’er’s eyes flashed with anger, her chest heaving in fury.
A faint smile played on Yi Xiaoyao’s lips as he said, "Don’t worry. As long as you stay within my line of sight, I’m more than capable of protecting you."
He only said this because he didn’t want the situation to become too hostile, which might reflect poorly on the King of Shang’s judgment, as this was a task the King had entrusted to him.
At this, Bo Hong and his men laughed and said to Chu Fei’er, "Princess Fei’er, of course the kid can’t give you his Demon Beast. His Cultivation is even lower than yours; he needs its protection more than you do!"
His men immediately roared with laughter. Chu Fei’er also let out a few cold sneers, her disdain and repulsion for Yi Xiaoyao growing even stronger.
These taunts reached the ears of Yi Xiaoyao’s group. Yi Xiaoyao himself didn’t pay them much mind, but Sword Wind Breaker and his companions frowned.
"I’d advise you to leave yourselves an out. Otherwise, when you want to feel regret, it’ll be too late."
Wei Buzhan sneered at the group of five. If it weren’t for Yi Xiaoyao’s calm temperament, and the alliance between their two groups, would these guys really have the opportunity to stand here running their mouths?
"What? You think that kid wants to teach me a lesson?"
Bo Hong scoffed. "Him? He doesn’t have what it takes. His Demon Beast is pretty strong, I’ll give him that, but I’m not scared of it! Even if all of you came at us at once, we wouldn’t be afraid!"
"Don’t bother with them. They aren’t our real enemies," Yi Xiaoyao said to Wei Buzhan, who looked ready to make a move.
Sword Wind Breaker and the others also chimed in to de-escalate. "That’s right. We can’t let ourselves get mutually wounded before we’ve even encountered the real enemy."
At the very least, when they encountered a true enemy, both sides would be united against a common foe.
With simmering tension, the two teams continued through the land of bleak winds. Before they knew it, they had covered a good distance, and the surrounding Yin Qi had grown progressively denser.
Suddenly, everyone’s gaze fell upon a tall, ancient tree several hundred zhang ahead. The tree was not only bizarrely shaped, but also pitch-black and utterly leafless.
At the top of the black tree, a dark figure was shifting slightly from side to side. Everyone noticed it and immediately grew vigilant.
Then, the dark figure seemed to spot Yi Xiaoyao’s group. It let out a startled cry, leaped down from the treetop, and vanished into the gloomy mist.
"After it!" a few people shouted, reacting instantly.
"Don’t chase it!" Yi Xiaoyao stopped them. "If I’m not mistaken, that was a scout. It saw us, which means its companions will be here shortly."
Everyone nodded. If they had chased it blindly, they would have charged right into the enemy’s den. Knowing nothing about their opponents, the risk was too great.
Sure enough, just a few moments later, sinister laughter echoed from the gloomy mist ahead.
"Hehehe, have some living humans wandered in?"
"Does this mean we have fresh corpses to enjoy?"
"Well now, ten living humans this time! What a bountiful harvest!"
As the voices faded, a procession of Yin Corpses emerged from the mist. Their bodies were desiccated beyond recognition, and their red-glowing eyes were fixed on Yi Xiaoyao’s group.
There were fourteen Yin Corpses in total, all of them at the Golden Core Realm and emanating the aura of the Golden Core Realm Peak.
"I’ll take three." Sword Wind Breaker’s gaze swept over the enemy, and he drew his blade, charging directly at three of the Yin Corpses.
Not to be outdone, Bo Hong’s figure flashed, and he engaged another four of the Yin Corpses.
Yi Xiaoyao and the others could only smile wryly. With that, the remaining eight of them would only have to face one Yin Corpse each, with one person to spare.
The next moment, the group clashed violently with the Yin Corpses.
These Yin Corpses were like sentient puppets; they felt no pain, and their attacks were even more ferocious than a typical cultivator at the Golden Core Realm Peak. However, they had a clear weakness: their bodies were not very agile.
With Sword Wind Breaker’s strength, handling three of them was no great issue. As for Bo Hong, he was strong enough to have fought Shangguan Tianjian, so dealing with four same-level Yin Corpses was also quite easy for him.
As for the others, it went without saying. They were all geniuses capable of crushing opponents of the same rank; dealing with a single, same-level enemy was a piece of cake.
Chu Fei’er stood to the side, watching as the others swiftly cut down the Yin Corpses in front of them and completely annihilated the Yin Souls that tried to escape.
When she saw Yi Xiaoyao defeat the Yin Corpse he was facing, a flicker of surprise appeared in her beautiful eyes. But then she pursed her lips and thought to herself, ’I could have killed a Yin Corpse like that too. And besides, he didn’t even finish his off.’
Indeed, Yi Xiaoyao hadn’t destroyed the Yin Corpse. The others looked over, puzzled, but in the next moment, realization dawned on them.
