Chapter 1523 - 1523 Medical Affection
— Lily —
It was a little embrarrassing for Lily to admit but after spending around thirty minutes carefully cleanaing Hunter’s wounds and getting started on applying the salve across her scales… Lily had to ask, “Wait… why haven’t we just gone back to the Hub? Why are we using this makeshift medical setup to fix Hunter up when we could get a proper healer?”
Hunter let out a long hiss that sort of sounded like a sigh while shaking her head slightly. Kamiko was about to answer for her when Bower cut in and said, “Probably to get my old ass back home,”
Lily glanced over at Bower who seemed to have finished dressing his own wounds before Kamiko spoke up and dragged Lily’s attention back to her. “Um… so, that might be enough on its own but it’s more than that. Firstly, did you even notice that we’re back in the forest?” Lily pointedly didn’t answer that question. “Which means the dimension collapsed and put us here…
“But notably, we’re not surrounded by all that weird ashy stuff the… the drake left behind you see. So… that means we’re somewhere else, probably close, but maybe not. Anyway, that means the dimension broke down… but we don’t really know if the dragon died or not… sure it exploded and maybe it’s done for but we don’t KNOW that just yet.

It’s at least exhausted, and maybe finishing it off won’t be too hard… but we just don’t know,”
Lily swallowed to try and stop her mouth feeling quite so dry. “Um… why are we here then? I mean, sorry Hunter, I don’t mind helping you with this at all… but like… why aren’t we making sure it’s dead before we it has time to recover?”
“I’m with Lily here,” added Bower, only for him to receive a glare from Hunter in full snake form. In response he mimed zipping his lips shut before waving the looks from the three girls away.
“It’s not a bad idea in theory…” said Kamiko slowly, “and maybe if I wasn’t exhausted I might have suggested it but take a look,” Kamiko held up a hand for Lily to see and it was visibly shaking. “Travelling through space was… not a pleasant experience… and I mean, we got through it but… afterwards we had to fight the drake and I was very stressed through the whole thing and now…
“Well now Kat’s down, Hunter’s down, Bower’s injured, you probably don’t have all of your mana and I… I just don’t have the energy for it,” Kamiko finished off with a sigh looking somewhat ashamed.
“Hey, you did great in that fight, and you seemed to confident… what… what happened to all of that?” asked Lily.
“I… I just had a lot of training. I don’t know, maybe it’s just my social anxiety that makes more normal conversation harder… maybe I just have a good combat mindset. Maybe it’s a demon thing… I don’t really know. Just… yeah it’s a thing,” answered Kamiko.
“Right… well… I still think you did great,” said Lily with a soft smile and a small glance over at Kat who was looking a lot better. At the very least Kat didn’t look injured, skin was covering everything once but based on the fact the link was still closed Kat probably wasn’t done healing. “Um… so… how are you so good at the medical stuff?
I mean… I can guess but… what made you want to spend time on it?”
Kamiko winced, “It’s… not exactly a glamerous reason or anything. I… you already know that I didn’t have a great track record when it came to making friends, my older sisters weren’t really around all that much growing up you know? I don’t mean Aslana of course, we’ll get to her in a bit… but the others? They were really trying to… develop themselves I guess?
“They were still in the part of their life where they thought it was uncool to be living at home with our parents. The triplets that is. Elmony was just busy and not around and… Meridithna… well yeah let’s not go back there you know that story. Um… so it was just me and Aslena, but we didn’t get along much, and she still tried to be out of the house a bunch…
“So really it was just Mum and Dad. I thought getting my mum to teach the basics would means she’d stick around more… and it did. She was happy to take more time off work to help me learn that sort of stuff… but it also meant I spent a lot less time with her doing cool or interesting things? Not that the medical stuff is uninteresting per say… just not what I really wanted at the time.
“I stuck with it for quite some time, because I thought that it was still better then not seeing Mum much, and I didn’t know if she’d spend less time with me because I lied about wanting to learn all that medical stuff… so that just kept up for a while.
Eventually Mum figured it out and I came clean… but I still remember a lot of my training from that point in my life, and well, with Mum around I still get bits and pieces of medical advice the normal demon doesn’t.
“It’s not like I knew what cream Hunter needed, I just knew that a lot of demons have different ‘skin types’ if you can call it that. Anyway, I knew that demons had different skin and it needed to be cared for differently.
Not everything has to be quite so drastic as scales to skin to rock, pit fiends for example, they have completely different requirements for their bodies and their skin is no different.
“Sure we’ve got plenty of stuff that works to an acceptable level on everything, but when you’ve got the option designed for you. Demons are a bit too diverce a lot for the more general options to be anything more than stop-gap measures,”
“Huh… is the generic stuff better for one type of demon then another?” asked Kamiko.
Kamiko nodded, “Yeah there’s one generic that works better for just about every type of demon. The idea is that you pick that one for emergencies because you’ll probably be using it on yourself. I think the only exception is Shadows. They simply take damage in a very different way,”
Lily was nodding along when she heard a large hiss of air coming from the side. Lily whipped her head around to see Kat stumbling to her feet. Quickly putting the salve away in her ring Lily ran over to Kat and settled one of Kat’s arms over her shoulder to keep her steady. “Kat, are you ok? The link is still closed,”
“Probably for the best,” rasped Kat. Kat quickly shook her head at the sound of her own voice and sucked in a few deep breaths. “Yeah that was… not good. Damage to just about everywhere and my regeneration had to spend a lot of energy just keep me alive, but I was already low so I ran out, then it was a cycle of regenerating a bit running out, regenerating a bit, running out, and so on,”
“Why didn’t you say anything?!” hissed Lily as she summoned a chair from her storage ring and dropped Kat into it.
Kat shrugged and answered, “There wasn’t much you could do. Something about the wound was making it heal slowly and take a lot more energy then normal. That’s part of the reason the link is still closed. I’m not exactly healed just yet and it hurts a bit,” fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Lily glared, “I’m surprised you can say it hurts ‘a bit’ because I know you Kat. ‘A bit’ means it probably hurts enough for me to pass out from the pain if I was in your place,” grumbled Lily.
Kat shrugged and said, “Perhaps but it’s a lot better then it used to be. I’m up off the ground now and I don’t think I’m likely to die from my wounds,”
Lily kept her glare on Kat for a few more moments before letting out a long, long sigh. “Fine. I want to stick around and give you cuddles and just wish you better but Hunter is still in pain and she’s going to have a much tougher time healing. So I’m going to keep helping with that, YOU are going to sit right there, and THEN we’re going to cuddle,”
“Didn’t Kamiko say that the dragon might still be around?” asked Kat.
“I do want to know why everyone seems to be calling it a dragon now, but whatever. Leaving that aside… I said what I said. You will sit there and be cuddled, and you will like it. There will be no chasing after the drake until everyone’s recovered a good deal more. Well…” Lily glanced at Hunter, “maybe not Hunter but her wounds will be taken care of at the very least,”
