Demon Slayer: Rise of The First Werewolf
Chapter 324: Pestilence (2)
Its been nearly two weeks since Adrian detected Pestilence and went to the human world with Annie.
They were currently in a small cafe having vanilla cake and tea. " You still can’t smell him?" Annie asked.
Normally Adrian would be able to smell the authority of the seals but it appeared he couldn’t smell Pestilence at all.
He shook his head, " I don’t know why but I.." he froze, a man walked in looking pale with a sickly expression.
" What is it?" Annie asked noticing the man as well. " I feel a bit of esper inside him, he’s an Espara but why does he look like he have flu? I didn’t know Espara can get such mundane sickness." Annie said.
" They don’t." Adrian answered standing up, she followed him and they blocked the man’s path.
The sickly man looked up at the tall handsome man standing in front of him and the gorgeous woman behind him.
Seeing her face he nearly forgot about his sickness but the throbbing chest and burning throat reminded him.
" Who are you? What do you want, I suggest you stay away from me, for your own sake." He tried to shove Adrian aside.
But he found he couldn’t even move him an inch. " Come with us, we need to talk." Adrian grabbed him.
Before the man could protest he found himself standing on top of an active volcano that looked like it was about to erupt.
It all happened so fast his brain couldn’t even register what had happened, the people at the cafe were also left confused.
The knowledge of supernaturals was no longer a big secret but the majority of the population were still skeptical.
They still called those who claim to know supernaturals exist as conspiracy theorists so somebody disappearing suddenly was a great suprise.
But Adrian did not know nor care about their reactions. " You’re sick?" He asked the man. The Espara looked up.
He didn’t answer but the pain in his eyes gave Adrian the answer he needed. " When did it start and where?" Adrian asked.
" Listen man, I don’t know who you are but please, just let me go, you don’t understand what you’re dealing with here." The man answered.
Adrian saw a flicker of fear in his eyes and his interest grew, " Ho, is thst so, well then enlighten me."
Cough cough, the sickly man coughed doing his best to close not just his mouth but nose as well.
It was as if he was afraid of letting something out. Then he looked up at Adrian, " There’s no point telling you anything.
You still have time, get away from me before it’s too late for you too." Said the sickly man in a low voice.
’ I’m certain he’s come across Pestilence or something that had his authority.’ Adrian thought to himself.
He grabbed the man by his leg and held him head down above the volcano. The sickly man was terrified.
Although he was an Espara, an active volcano was too much for him. " So here’s the deal, you tell me what I want and I don’t drop you in." Said Adrian.
" Alright alright I’ll tell you but trust me, it’s best you don’t get yourself involved man, it’s not something anybody can deal with."
" I’m listening."
" Two weeks ago, a hospital in my hometown had a spike in radiation killing everybody inside.
I was visiting home and as an agent decided they check it out but...." The paused and gulped.
" But...?"
" I didn’t detect any radiation, as an Espara my senses are much more sensitive than normal.
But there was nothing there except the smell of medicine and rotting corpses and the corpses did not look like they died of radiation poisoning.
It looked as if they all died from diseases, different diseases, I checked the CCTV of the hospital.
And I found that some guy went in there and suddenly exploded into green mist which killed everybody.
But the strangest part was, one woman survived and left unscathed."
" That’s interesting, tell me more about this woman." Urged Adrian.
" I looked her up, she was just a young nurse, started working there about a year ago.
Her background was clean with her only living family member being her older sister, she didn’t seem special in any way.
I thought maybe she was an Espara and it was her ability that allowed her to survive what killed everybody.
After checking the cameras on the parking lot to determine which direction she went I finally confirmed she wasn’t normal."
" How so?" Annie asked.
" She summoned a white horse which turned into a car and she drove it, a normal person can’t do that."
Annie and Adrian looked at each other, ’ A white horse.’ both had the same thought.
The man continued, " A day later people living around the hospital started getting sick starting with those closest to it.
Then it spread like a plague in less than four days the entire town was sick and on the fifth day the first person died.
It was then that I started feeling sick myself, I knew there was something wrong in the air but I couldn’t detect it.
I called the organisation for a report and instead of helping they sealed down the entire town.
Fortunately my grandfather had dug tunnels leading away from the town in case of an attack."
" Are from a lineage of Espara, a clan?" Annie asked suprised.
The man nodded, " A small clan yes, my family always had at least one person working for the organisation in every generation for at least 300 years.
Because of that relationship we’ve made quite a few enemies amongst the Fayera and my grandfather wanted to be prepared.
I used those tunnels to sneak out and searched for the nurse and I found her, but...I was wrong, I was so wrong."
The man smiled bitterly, " I’m a fool, I should’ve known something was wrong with her from the get go.
When I found her she was in a pub and everybody inside was dead, having died in a similar fashion to those in the hospital.
I knew immediately she was the cause or rather the thing inside her and it told me what it is." The man gulped.
His eyes flickered with fear and despair. " It told me it was..."
" Pestilence." Adrian finished his sentence.
