Chapter 138: How in the World?
"How did he?!"
"The blooming bastard is a magic user!"
The traffickers stared at the empty space where the cage had been, struggling to understand what they had just witnessed, especially since the armoured man hadn’t even bothered to open the cage before making the entire thing disappear.
They had dealt with magic users before, but the ability to make an entire cage and the beast inside it vanish into thin air was something they hadn’t expected from an intruder who had broken into their camp alone.
Osborne, on the other hand, was glad that he had been able to place the shadow leopard inside his sub-space, since he had been somewhat unsure whether the creature would resist the moment he attempted to bring it inside.
He knew very little about the beast’s full capabilities, and considering how easily it had managed to disappear and reappear during their previous encounter, he couldn’t rule out the possibility that it possessed some strange ability that might interfere with his own powers.
Fortunately, the leopard didn’t seem to have resisted his attempt, allowing him to capture it without any trouble, although he still had no idea whether that was because it had accepted its fate or simply because it hadn’t understood what was happening.
’Well, I’ll deal with that troublesome fellow later.’
For now, he had more pressing matters to attend to, especially since the traffickers were already closing in on his position, and he could hear the sounds of several more men approaching from the other side of the camp.
"I’m sorry, but I don’t have time to stand and chat."
Osborne raised his sword, the faint red glow that had previously surrounded its blade becoming brighter as he prepared to deal with the situation before him.
[Burning Blade]
He activated his new spell, and the next moment, his blade burned hot, its surface covered in a bright red glow that caused the surrounding air to grow warm.
Since the traffickers already knew that he could use magic, he saw no reason to continue hiding it, especially when doing so would only make it more difficult to get out of this place alive.
Besides, he had already decided that allowing these people to escape without consequences would only create more trouble for him in the future, and he wasn’t interested in having a group of traffickers hunting him down because he had interfered with their business.
With that thought in mind, Osborne acted quickly, moving towards the nearest cage and slicing through the metal bars with his heated blade before turning towards the next one.
The thick metal bars that had once kept the demonic beasts trapped offered almost no resistance against his weapon, and within moments, several cages had been opened, allowing the creatures inside to finally break free from their confinement.
The moment the first demonic beast escaped, it let out an angry roar before pouncing towards Osborne.
[Mud Wall]
Osborne reacted immediately, conjuring a thick wall of mud beneath his feet, which rose rapidly into the air and lifted his body far beyond the beast’s reach before it could land a single blow.
The creature’s claws scraped against the side of the rising wall, but it failed to catch him, and by the time it landed back on the ground, Osborne was already several metres above the encampment.
"Stop that bastard!!"
"Damnit!!!"
The traffickers were furious as they watched the armoured man rise higher and higher into the air, but with several enraged demonic beasts now running loose around their camp, there was very little they could do to stop him.
The beasts had been imprisoned for who knew how long, and after spending so much time locked inside cages, they had no intention of allowing the people responsible for their suffering to escape without paying a price.
One of them charged towards a nearby trafficker, swinging its massive claws at the unfortunate man before he could even raise his weapon to defend himself.
"ARRGHH!!"
SPATTER!
The man’s scream was cut short as the beast’s claws tore through his body, spraying blood across the ground while his companions watched in horror.
Another trafficker attempted to flee towards the wooden wall, only for a second beast to catch up with him and bite down on his leg, dragging him to the ground before he could escape.
CRUNCH!
The sound of breaking bones echoed through the encampment, followed by another scream that quickly turned into a desperate plea for help.
The situation had descended into chaos, and the traffickers who had once considered themselves in control of the camp were now struggling to survive against the very creatures they had kept as prisoners.
Those who were unlucky enough to find themselves in the path of the raging beasts were quickly killed, while those who could hold their own against them found themselves being pushed back, unable to deal with the creatures without leaving themselves open to attacks from the others.
Their frustrations soon began being diluted by rising fear, especially as they realised that the man responsible for freeing the beasts was still standing above them, watching the situation unfold without showing the slightest intention of helping them.
Some of the traffickers tried to rush towards the mud wall, hoping to reach Osborne before he could escape, but the height of the structure made it impossible for them to climb up quickly enough, and their attempts only left them exposed to the creatures running loose around the camp.
Meanwhile, Osborne’s mud wall continued growing taller, lifting him high enough to see almost the entire encampment from above, including the wooden wall that surrounded the hideout and the dark forest stretching beyond it.
Once he was satisfied with the height, he leaped off the mud wall and landed on top of the wooden wall surrounding the encampment, his boots striking the rough surface as he regained his balance.
From there, he glanced towards the dark forest, and for a brief moment, the thought of fleeing crossed his mind.
