Chapter 108:
Osborne slowly reached out his hand.
The wolf lowered its body.
It looked ready to attack if he tried anything.
Osborne’s eyes narrowed.
He didn’t have much interest in fighting another one.
He had already dealt with the strongest of them.
There was no need to waste more time.
Before he could do anything, Vanessa’s cold gaze landed on the wolf.
The demonic beast instantly froze, facing the cold gaze of the one who had subdued its leader. Its body trembled slightly.
Vanessa didn’t say anything.
She didn’t need to.
Her gaze alone was enough.
The wolf lowered its head. Its body became less tense.
Osborne noticed the reaction.
He couldn’t help but find it interesting.
Perhaps it was due to the similarities in their species, or her being an Alpha herself, but—
’They really are afraid of her.’
He walked forward again. This time, the wolf didn’t resist.
Osborne placed his hand against its body.
Then it disappeared.
He repeated the process with the others.
At first, some of them remained hesitant.
They watched Osborne carefully, clearly unsure about what would happen after he touched them.
But whenever they showed signs of resistance, Vanessa would simply turn her gaze toward them.
That was enough.
One after another, the demonic beasts lowered their heads.
Osborne touched them.
One after another, they disappeared into his sub-space.
Soon, all eight wolves were inside.
Osborne straightened his body.
He looked toward Vanessa.
"I’ll leave them to you."
Vanessa nodded her head.
"I expect them to be properly trained and ready to be deployed the next time I need them."
"I’ll do my best to meet your expectations, so please leave it to me." Vanessa’s answer came immediately.
Osborne nodded.
"Good."
He looked toward the empty space where the wolves had been standing.
He couldn’t help but feel satisfied.
He had originally entered the forest to complete a simple Moonlight Grass gathering quest. ℯℯ𝑙.
Instead, he had found an entire pack of powerful demonic beasts.
Now they belonged to him.
Well, at least for the moment.
Whether they would actually become useful forces remained to be seen.
But Osborne had no reason to complain.
"I’ll grant you access to as many resources as you need." Vanessa’s eyes widened slightly.
She knew exactly what he meant.
There were plenty of monster and beast corpses stored inside the strange space.
Osborne had already allowed her and Hana to eat as much as they needed.
Now, he was extending the same permission to the demonic beasts.
They would need food if they were going to recover from their injuries and become stronger.
Especially the Alpha.
That creature had evaded his attacks and showed that it was able to clash with the current Vanessa, which was no small feat.
Osborne had no idea how long it would take to recover.
But he was willing to wait.
He snapped his fingers.
The next moment, Vanessa disappeared.
She was sent back into the sub-space.
Osborne stood alone in the forest once more.
He looked around.
The forest had become quiet again.
Only the sounds of leaves moving in the wind could be heard.
Osborne glanced toward the ground where the wolves had been fighting.
The signs of battle were obvious.
The earth had been damaged, several trees had been scorched, and there were still traces of smoke lingering in the air.
’It’d be a pain if someone came and saw this...’ He thought to himself, feeling cautious.
And so, he began using his two spells, Mud Ball and Bind, to clean up the area, making it look just as natural as when he arrived. He made sure to keep Bind at ground level so it wouldn’t be too conspicuous.
Only after he was done covering up every scar did he begin walking again.
He had already spent more time dealing with the demonic beasts than he originally expected.
There was still a quest to complete.
More importantly, there was still Moonlight Grass somewhere ahead.
Osborne followed the scent.
His enhanced sense of smell had become the perfect guide.
The scent was much stronger now.
There was no longer any need for him to stop and search between trees.
He simply followed it.
The forest gradually became quieter as he moved deeper.
The number of ordinary beasts also seemed to decrease.
Osborne didn’t find that strange.
After encountering a pack of powerful demonic beasts, it was possible that the weaker creatures avoided this part of the forest.
He continued walking.
The trees around him became thicker.
Their branches stretched across the sky, blocking out more and more sunlight.
The ground also became covered in dense vegetation.
Osborne continued forward without slowing down.
After walking for some time, he noticed the trees ahead beginning to spread apart.
The scent of Moonlight Grass became much stronger.
Osborne’s eyes narrowed.
He stepped forward.
The forest suddenly opened up.
A large clearing appeared before him.
Although Osborne called it a clearing, it wasn’t exactly an open field.
A thick canopy covered the area above him.
The branches of several large trees had grown over one another, blocking most of the sunlight from reaching the ground.
Only a small amount of light managed to pass through the gaps.
The atmosphere was cool. It was also slightly dark.
Osborne looked around.
Then his eyes widened.
"Well, would you look at that..."
He was momentarily bewildered.
The entire clearing was filled with Moonlight Grass.
Silver blades of grass covered the ground in every direction.
They grew between the roots of the trees, around small rocks, and across the darker patches of earth.
Some were short.
Others had grown much taller.
Under the limited sunlight passing through the canopy, their silver color stood out clearly.
Osborne slowly walked forward.
He looked at the large amount of herbs covering the ground.
For a moment, he simply stared.
He had expected to find enough Moonlight Grass to complete the quest.
Perhaps a few pieces.
Maybe even ten if he was lucky.
He certainly hadn’t expected to find an entire field.
’No wonder the scent persisted so far...’ Osborne finally understood.
