Chapter 1782 - 157: Facing the Future

  • Next Chapter

Fisher hasn’t faced too many life-or-death moments in the past; most of the time, things have been fairly safe and secure. There were only two occasions that could be considered truly dangerous.

One was in the Ideal Country, when confronting Margaret, who was confused by Chaos and attempted to awaken Death Authority; the other was in the Elf Capital on the Tree Continent, where they encountered Master Tao, one of the Third Son elves. The massive gap of the Nineteen Ranks almost obliterated Fisher in an instant, and he only managed to escape death with the assistance of Renie’s Seal and Remiel’s arrival.

So Fisher developed a deep impression of that elf with black hair wearing a ru skirt, especially after he learned about some things after the Mythical War, and acquired the Chaos manual she left behind...

But now, Fisher actually heard Master Tao’s voice from Valentina.

"Master Tao?"

Fisher frowned, abruptly letting go of Valentina beneath him, and she sat up blushing, looking rather shy.

"Tao... Tao Tao Tao... Master Tao, why did you suddenly speak?!"

"I was talking to you in your mind while you were holding him earlier, what’s the difference now that it’s external?"

"Of course, it’s different!"

Conversing in the mind feels more like speaking to another little person inside one’s inner world, always accompanied by a sense of psychological activity. Now that Master Tao spoke aloud, doesn’t that mean Fisher knows someone else was watching when he was being intimate, doesn’t that mean...

It’s too embarrassing!

Valentina flapped her wings slightly, stirring up a bit of ice, causing the pink peach blossom branch extending from her nape to sway.

But Master Tao had no time to deal with Valentina’s youthful affection; she merely extended the peach branch upwards, presenting a pink peach blossom to Fisher in front of her.

"Kid, it’s me, long time no see."

"... You didn’t die?"

"Elves can preserve their souls and reincarnate through Tree Planting, but that process also washes the soul, restoring it to its pure form. Thus, with each reincarnation, elves become someone else. But to protect the tribe for a long time, I manipulated the chaos to alter this process, allowing my body to be renewed while retaining my memories..."

The peach blossom slightly swayed its branches as it spoke, making Valentina feel a bit ticklish. She raised her hand to adjust the peach blossom at the nape, looking as if she was arranging a hairpin.

"Unexpectedly, after my death, a part of me coincidentally lingered in Mother’s roots, and remained during this Little Phoenix’s Nirvana."

"..."

Fisher stared at the peach blossom in front of him; his scrutinizing gaze made Valentina realize he was questioning Master Tao’s intentions. After hearing Master Tao say that they were enemies thousands of years ago, and now that Master Tao is a carrier of chaos, Valentina quickly explained,

"Fisher, Master Tao is not a bad person... a bad elf. At least during this time, she has helped me a lot. Without her, I might not even have the courage to sit on the throne of the Wutong Tree."

"I am indeed the chaos carrier you aim to eliminate. From the moment I awakened, I became aware of this. My consciousness currently resides in the manipulated chaos. But don’t worry, I’m not seeking revenge for what you did thousands of years ago, nor do I intend to do anything for the extinct elves... My objective aligns with yours at the moment; it’s to prevent the arrival of annihilation."

"..." Fisher paused in disbelief, "I didn’t expect you to have such an awareness."

Fisher felt a chill when Master Tao spoke, having just escaped the Nineteen Ranks of Elizabeth and prepared to confront her, then learning in the Spirit Realm about the Chaos Species’ involvement. If there were an additional Master Tao now, Fisher might genuinely feel powerless to reverse the situation.

But now, Master Tao’s attitude resembled that of the Cardinal of Destiny, calming his accelerated heartbeat.

"Ha, trivial, in this world, many matters are not about right or wrong, only perspective. Thousands of years ago, standing from this world’s and the elves’ perspective, eliminating you transferees was justified; and thousands of years later, my stance remains unchanged. Even though the elves are extinct, as a Mythical Species created by Mother, I still hold responsibility for this world, bearing the obligation to prevent its annihilation, just like that..."

Having heard Fisher’s words, Master Tao snorted coldly, her childlike voice articulating the usual condescending remarks.

"So don’t bear any hostility towards me; I have already decided to detach from Valentina, leaving myself at your disposal to resolve the current issue."

Valentina opened her mouth, but in the end, she lowered her gaze, struggling inwardly, but unable to say anything.

Fisher keenly observed Valentina’s expression, realizing her resistance to Master Tao’s departure.

He paused to adjust the words in his mind, attempting to comfort Valentina to help her accept this matter, but Master Tao seemed to grasp the thoughts of the two of them, and hence she decided to act as the villain herself.

"Valentina, take me out now. Go to the highest point of the Wutong Tree. I want to see everything in this world one last time, and then I’ll detach from you. This process might require the help of this trivial..."

Valentina has evolved from being trivial to an independent entity with her name, while Fisher remains trivial.
