Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Plenty of Opportunities

Bai Wanwan was indeed a little curious about the group known as Wandering Beasts.

Know your enemy and know yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles without defeat. She had to understand the dangers she was facing.

"Tell me about them."

Roger watched her profile, wanting to see if she would be frightened.

"In their hands, any female is just a beast for breeding. They don’t take care of females, only using them as tools for their release..."

"And?"

Bai Wanwan’s eyes held a pure thirst for knowledge.

Roger couldn’t quite read her, but she didn’t seem as afraid as other females.

"If you displease them, they’ll tear a female apart and eat her without a second thought. So... I was the one who saved you."

"Saved me?" Bai Wanwan shot him a look. "How are you any different from them? Did you save me out of the goodness of your heart?"

Roger was left speechless by her words.

A Holy Female was an indescribable temptation to any male.

The top priority of procreation was etched into their very genes.

Even for him, a past trauma had left a shadow that made him unwilling to mate with a female. But after hearing that Bai Wanwan was a Holy Female, the thought of possessing her for himself had taken root.

"I... at least I wouldn’t treat you like a breeding animal..."

"Hah... and I’m supposed to thank you for that?" Bai Wanwan couldn’t be bothered to argue, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

Roger had only been entertaining the idea; he hadn’t been dead set on becoming her Beast Husband.

But her words sparked a sense of indignant resentment in him.

’That useless beast Xin Feng can be her Beast Husband, so how am I any worse than him?’

’This little female has terrible taste!’

"Hmph, do you have a choice? If you don’t accept me as your Beast Husband, then I’ll have to sell you. You’re a Holy Female, after all. I’m sure I could trade you for a great deal of supplies."

He thought Bai Wanwan would be angry, but the little female just leaned against the wall and closed her eyes. "Fine. Sell me. Now shut up for a bit, I’m tired."

Her words, however, stirred a wave of vexation in Roger’s heart.

’She’d rather be sold than have me as her Beast Husband?’

Bai Wanwan had only closed her eyes to ignore Roger, pretending to be asleep.

But so much had happened that day, and she was exhausted, terrified, and anxious.

She truly couldn’t take it anymore and ended up actually falling asleep.

But with so much on her mind, she didn’t sleep soundly.

She jolted awake to find light spilling in through the cave entrance.

’Xin Feng hasn’t caught up?’

A wave of disappointment washed over her.

Then she heard the voices of her cubs and immediately turned to look inside.

Only then did she realize Roger was holding her three cubs.

"What are you doing?"

Bai Wanwan scrambled to her feet and walked toward him, her face a mask of defense and vigilance.

The anger that Roger had just managed to suppress was easily reignited by her.

"What does it look like I’m doing? The cubs were crying from hunger. I was afraid they’d wake you, so I’m feeding them."

Bai Wanwan then saw clearly that he was indeed feeding small chunks of beast meat to the cubs.

Roger snorted. "If I wanted to do something to you all, I had plenty of chances last night. I could have thrown them into the snow while you were fast asleep."

Bai Wanwan knew she had misunderstood, but it wasn’t as if Roger was some great Samaritan.

’He was only doing this because he wanted something from her.’

So she felt no guilt, let alone any need to apologize for her misunderstanding.

She walked over to the hot spring pool and gave herself a rough wash.

She straightened her messy hair.

Only then did she take out some dried meat to fill her stomach.

Roger’s gaze followed her the entire time.

’This heartless little female. She clearly misunderstood him, yet she turns around and acts as if nothing happened.’

He ground his teeth. "If your stomach doesn’t hurt anymore, we’ll leave after you finish eating."

Bai Wanwan ignored him again. She knew he couldn’t possibly stay put for long just for her.

So she deliberately chewed her dried meat slowly, dragging it out for as long as she could.

Roger waited and waited until he could bear it no longer. He transformed directly into his beast form, placed the cubs into a basket, and picked it up with his mouth.

"Are you coming or not? If not, I’m leaving with your cubs."

Only then did Bai Wanwan swallow her last mouthful of dried meat. "What’s the rush? I wasn’t finished eating yet."

As she climbed onto the black wolf’s back, she angrily yanked a handful of his fur.

Roger felt her venting her anger but wasn’t annoyed. Instead, his mind was already calculating which tribe he should take the little female to live in.

Ever since the idea had popped into his head last night, he suddenly felt that running around with the caravan all these years had been tiring. ’If he could mate with the little female and live in a tribe, it seemed like that wouldn’t be so bad...’

For the rest of the day, Bai Wanwan looked back countless times but never saw any sign of Xin Feng.

Her anxiety grew.

’Did Xin Feng get delayed because he couldn’t find the cubs, or did he run into Wandering Beastmen and get into danger?’

Perhaps because she was so anxious, by evening, a sore had formed in her mouth.

This time, Roger was very careful about the jolting, making sure not to make her too uncomfortable.

"We’ll be meeting up with my caravan soon. After that, I’ll take you to a nearby tribe. Once the weather gets a bit warmer, I’ll take you with me."

Bai Wanwan still ignored him.

Throughout the day, Roger had tried to strike up a conversation with her from time to time, but she hadn’t responded even once.

Eventually, Roger sensed her mood and stopped trying to talk to her as much.

"If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as a yes."

After carrying her through the snow for a while longer, a sound came from up ahead.

"Captain?"

Members of Roger’s caravan emerged from the snow after spotting him.

"Any sign of Wandering Beastmen nearby?"

"They were lured elsewhere. There was one Wandering Beast, but we’ve already taken care of it."

"Good. Grab the cargo, let’s get moving."

Only then did the other males in the caravan turn their curious gazes toward Bai Wanwan.

They were a bit surprised. Although their captain was very popular with females, he had never brought one along on the road in all these years.

"Captain... who is this?"

"This is my future Wife."

After a full day of thinking, the idea in Roger’s mind had become crystal clear.

’So what if she’s unwilling?’

’He was going to be her Beast Husband.’

The other males were stunned. After sizing Bai Wanwan up for a moment, one of them asked, "Captain, does this mean you won’t be leading us anymore?"

"Yin Li is already capable of handling things on his own. If I stop, he can lead you."

Hearing their conversation, Bai Wanwan pushed herself up into a sitting position on his back.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Who wants to be your Wife?"

Roger moved his enormous head, deliberately rubbing it against her palm.

"In any case, I’ve decided. From now on, I’ll be wherever you are."

Bai Wanwan couldn’t be bothered with him. ’Her Beast Husband had to be someone she at least liked.’

’This Roger only did things that annoyed her, and he still wanted to be her Beast Husband? In his dreams.’

"Let’s move. It’s not safe here."

If the Wandering Beasts realized what was happening and started searching in this direction, their small caravan of beastmen wouldn’t be able to withstand their attack.

Roger led the caravan, a pack of massive beasts thundering across the snow.

They ran and hid like this for two days. Just as they were approaching a small tribe, the beastman bringing up the rear suddenly shouted, "Captain, bad news! The Wandering Beasts are catching up!"

Bai Wanwan jumped in fright and whipped her head around to look.

Amidst the flying snow, the vague shapes of beasts could be seen...
