Delicate Villainess, Desperate Males – A Beast World Reverse Harem
Chapter 48: What Fate Awaits
Chapter 48: Chapter 48: What Fate Awaits
Roger strode over to her and pulled her out of the narrow hollow.
Bai Wanwan deliberately defied him, trying to pull her hand away while kicking at him.
Roger simply leaned over, bent down, and swept her into his arms.
"What are you doing?"
Bai Wanwan slapped him across the face.
She used seventy or eighty percent of her strength, but the blow landed on Roger’s face with all the force of a tickle.
He raised a hand and grabbed her wrist. "If you don’t want something to happen to you and the cubs, you’d better behave."
Bai Wanwan refused to be threatened. She continued to struggle ceaselessly in his arms. When she couldn’t move her hands, she kicked with her feet.
Roger grunted. "You really are something else..."
His tone was a mixture of gritted-teeth frustration and helplessness.
In any case, her kicks and struggles did him no harm, so he simply stopped talking. Holding her with one arm and the basket with the other, he quickly ducked out of the cave.
Outside the cave, the wind was biting cold. Bai Wanwan, still angry, shivered from the chill and had no choice but to stop kicking and curl into a ball.
Seeing her suddenly quiet down, Roger was so exasperated he had to laugh.
"Good. At least you know not to make yourself suffer."
Bai Wanwan hated him, but now that she was in his hands, she knew she just had to stay alive to find an opportunity.
So there was no need to keep fighting him head-on.
"It’s freezing! Are you trying to turn me into an icicle by carrying me out like this?"
"I’ll change into my beast form. Get on. My Talent Power can block some of the cold wind."
As soon as he finished speaking, Roger transformed into a massive black wolf before her.
His body was a full size larger than Xin Feng’s Silver Wolf form.
"You’re a wolf, too?"
"Of course. Isn’t my beast form impressive and imposing?"
Bai Wanwan ignored him, grabbing the fur on his neck to climb on before hugging the basket with the cubs.
Sure enough, the surrounding cold wind seemed to lessen somewhat.
Lying on his back, Bai Wanwan glanced behind them, hiding the worry in her eyes.
’I wonder if Xin Feng has found the cubs yet? When will he come back?’
Roger was very pleased with her compliance. He immediately stood up and broke into a run across the snow.
When he wasn’t paying attention, Bai Wanwan would periodically take a small item from her System Space and toss it out.
After dropping things all along the way, she looked out.
Snowflakes were still falling...
She grew worried that if this kept up, Xin Feng wouldn’t catch up in time and the snow would bury everything.
After Roger had been running for a long time with her on his back, Bai Wanwan tugged the fur on his neck and shouted, "My stomach hurts! Stop!"
Roger had never had a female of his own, but he knew they were very delicate.
Never mind a heavy snowstorm like this; even just hiding in a cave during winter, they could easily fall ill and die.
Bai Wanwan’s words made him instantly nervous. Without a second thought as to whether she was telling the truth, he found a place sheltered from the wind and stopped.
"Does it hurt a lot? Hang in there. I’ll take you to a nearby tribe to see a Witch Doctor."
Bai Wanwan lay still. It wasn’t that she was really in pain; she just wanted to stall for time.
"No need. It’s probably because your running is too bumpy. I’ll be fine after a little rest."
Only then did Roger realize he had indeed been running too fast, and he felt a pang of guilt.
The black wolf’s back was wide and furry, actually quite comfortable to lie on.
Bai Wanwan even rolled over on his back.
"Does it still hurt?" Roger didn’t dare to move a muscle.
"It hurts,"
she answered without batting an eye.
"If we just wait here, what if it gets worse? No, I have to take you to a Witch Doctor."
Bai Wanwan reached up and tugged his fur again. "I said no. Just be quiet."
She was agitated, having to deal with Roger while also worrying about the cubs and Xin Feng.
Even if she felt no physical discomfort, her heart was truly agitated and distressed.
Roger knew the little female was angry, so he stayed quiet for a long while.
Finally, he couldn’t resist asking again, "Does it still hurt?"
Bai Wanwan said impatiently, "It hurts."
Roger hesitated for a moment, then suddenly felt something was off.
"Bai Wanwan, you’re not lying to me, are you?"
"Why would I lie to you?"
"Are you trying to stall until Xin Feng comes to rescue you?" Roger reacted at once, no longer lying down but leaping to his feet.
Bai Wanwan’s heart sank as she heard Roger say, "Since it hurts so much, I’ll take you to a Witch Doctor."
With that, he took off running again.
Seeing that he had seen through her, Bai Wanwan neither explained nor denied it.
Roger ran for a long time. Seeing she wasn’t making a fuss anymore, he actually found it a little strange.
"Does it still hurt?"
He turned his massive head, trying to look back at her.
Bai Wanwan didn’t even bother to answer.
After running for several hours through the night, just as Bai Wanwan had thrown out almost all the small things she could,
she started making a fuss again. "I’m tired! I can’t hold on! I need to rest."
Roger hadn’t planned on traveling all night with the little female on his back; he knew her body couldn’t take it.
He had been looking for a suitable place to rest along the way.
"Just hang on a little longer. There’s a hot spring cave up ahead. I’ll take you there. It’s warm, so you’ll be more comfortable when you sleep."
After running for another few dozen minutes, the black wolf stopped by the side of a mountain and shifted back into his human form.
He held the drowsy Bai Wanwan in his arms and swept the accumulated snow off a curtain of vines.
Yawning, Bai Wanwan looked forward and saw that behind the parted vines lay a massive cavern.
Roger carried her inside. The further in they went, the warmer it became.
It was so comfortable that she squinted, feeling even sleepier.
But the cry of a wild beast startled her awake.
"Wait here for me."
Roger set her down by the cave wall, rushed into the cavern, and swiftly killed all the beasts in the hot spring pool.
Bai Wanwan was fully awake now, clutching the cubs in her arms.
It was pitch-black ahead. She couldn’t see a thing, not even what kind of beasts were in the cave.
She only knew that the sounds quickly vanished, followed by Roger’s footsteps slowly approaching.
Only after confirming their surroundings were safe did Roger speak. "We’ll sleep here tonight and hit the road in the morning."
Bai Wanwan couldn’t have been happier. ’If we sleep for a night, Xin Feng might be able to catch up.’
After taking out strips of meat to feed the whimpering cubs, she also gnawed on a piece of jerky herself.
"Bai Wanwan..."
Roger sat down beside her.
Bai Wanwan ignored him and kept chewing on her jerky.
Roger tilted his head. As a male with a Talent, his vision was better than a female’s, even in the pitch-black night.
She couldn’t see him, but he could faintly make out her face.
He even saw her purse her lips when she heard him call her name.
But she didn’t make a sound, clearly ignoring him on purpose.
He couldn’t help but chuckle. "Hey, are you really the Holy Female?"
Bai Wanwan swallowed the jerky in her mouth and snorted. "Holy Female? What Holy Female? I have no idea what you’re talking about."
’It’s not like the words "Holy Female" are written on my face,’ she thought. ’As long as I deny it to the death, I’ll be fine.’
Roger continued, "Hu Ya’s Beast Husband, Lu Yi, was originally planning to spread the news that you’re the Holy Female to the Wandering Beastmen. Do you have any idea what happens to a female who falls into the hands of Wandering Beastmen?"
