Chapter 242: A Bobbing Adam’s Apple
Chapter 242: Chapter 242: A Bobbing Adam’s Apple
Yan Lie’s abrupt movements drew the attention of Xin Feng, who was inside.
Xin Feng was marinating some sliced meat. He turned his head to look at Yan Lie. "What is it?"
Yan Lie’s eyes darted around. "N-nothing."
With that, he strode into the house.
Xin Feng watched him go. ’Yan Lie is such a simple, direct male. A male like that can never hide it when something’s on his mind.’
Xin Feng didn’t call out to him. Instead, he waited for Yan Lie to go inside before walking to the main entrance and gazing into the distance.
Their stone house was located right at the edge of the Central Square, offering a wide, open view.
He could see Beastmen everywhere he looked.
After scanning the area and finding nothing out of the ordinary, Xin Feng frowned and turned back inside.
After a tender embrace from Zhu Xiu, he walked Bai Wanwan to her door.
"Go on inside," Zhu Xiu said. "It isn’t safe right now, so don’t go out by yourself. If you need to go anywhere, have Xin Feng or Yan Lie go with you."
’I won’t be able to rest easy until I find the males who are trying to harm Wanwan and deal with them.’
"Okay," she replied. "Don’t worry about me. I’m still recovering, so I won’t be going anywhere. You be careful out there. Your Dark Curse hasn’t been fully lifted yet."
A soft light filled Zhu Xiu’s eyes. "Okay. I’ll be careful."
Only when he saw Bai Wanwan go inside did Zhu Xiu relax and turn to leave, resuming his investigation of the other males.
The moment she stepped inside, Xin Feng handed Bai Wanwan a glass of juice.
Bai Wanwan had previously sealed ripe berries with sugar in a jar. She’d told Xin Feng that mixing a spoonful with cool water made for a refreshing summer drink.
And Xin Feng had taken it to heart.
She was parched. She took the glass and had a sip, her eyes closing in satisfaction.
Seeing Xin Feng watching her with a smile in his eyes, she held the glass to his lips. "You have some too."
Berries were a favorite among the females, but they were scarce—barely enough for them alone.
"I’m not thirsty."
Bai Wanwan knew he was trying to save it for her, so she pressed the stone bowl to his lips. "I won’t drink anymore until you do."
Resigned, Xin Feng took a sip from the bowl in her hand.
"It’s delicious, but I’m not thirsty. You finish it."
Bai Wanwan saw he had barely wet his lips. Knowing he always put her first, she felt an urge to stand on her toes and give him a little kiss.
Suddenly, she heard a noise from inside the room.
She had no choice but to set down the stone bowl. "I’m going to go check on that," she told Xin Feng.
Bai Wanwan entered the inner room and saw Yan Lie lying on the bed, awkwardly reaching for something on the floor without success.
She quickly crossed over, picked up the stone bowl, and set it on the nearby stone table.
Yan Lie was a little embarrassed. "I wasn’t looking and accidentally knocked it over."
He’d been distracted, which was why he had knocked it over.
Seeing him lying on the bed, Bai Wanwan assumed he was unwell. She gently pushed him back down and reached up to feel his forehead.
"Are you not feeling well?" she asked with concern.
Yan Lie didn’t want to go outside, so he put on a weak act and nodded. "Yeah, I’m a little dizzy."
"Dizzy?"
’Could his wound be infected?’
Bai Wanwan frowned. "Lie still, don’t move," she said quickly. "I’ll go get you some water."
With that, she picked up the bowl from the table and headed out.
Yan Lie felt a pang of guilt as he watched Wanwan fuss over him, but...
’I can’t go outside. I’ll just have to fake being sick for a couple of days.’
Seeing the worried look on her face, Xin Feng turned and asked, "Wanwan, what is it?"
"Yan Lie isn’t feeling well. I’m worried his wound might be infected. It would be bad if he develops a fever."
After saying this, Bai Wanwan poured the water and hurried back into the room.
Soon, Yan Lie’s voice drifted from the room. The male who had sounded so full of energy just moments before now spoke in a listless tone.
Xin Feng let out an exasperated laugh.
He lowered his gaze to the knife in his hand, and a glint appeared in his eyes...
Although Yan Lie hadn’t wanted to deceive Wanwan, he quickly found himself reveling in her gentle care.
The little female kept leaning in to feel his forehead, staying by his bedside to watch over him.
He savored her gentle attention.
"Wanwan,"
Yan Lie couldn’t resist grabbing her hand and holding it tight.
"Why are you holding my hand? I’m not going anywhere. Just close your eyes and get some sleep."
Yan Lie felt no trace of sleepiness. His eyes burned as he stared at her beautiful face.
He’d never thought any particular female was pretty before, but why did his Wanwan seem to get more beautiful every time he looked at her?
So beautiful he couldn’t bear to look away.
"Wanwan... come lie with me, won’t you?"
The memory of her soft body pressed against his made Yan Lie’s breath hitch.
His grip on her hand tightened.
"I’ll sit right here with you. I’m not leaving."
Bai Wanwan, not wanting to get undressed, simply tried to coax him.
But Yan Lie wrapped his arms around her waist, his tone wheedling. "Wanwan, come up here and lie with me. I’ll probably get better much faster."
He stared at Bai Wanwan, his beautiful eyes unblinking.
His gaze melted her heart. She remembered that he’d been injured for her sake and was now feeling unwell.
She quickly relented. "All right. Let go for a second. I’ll take off my outer clothes and then I’ll lie down with you."
Yan Lie immediately let go, his heart starting to POUND in his chest.
He had only intended to feign illness to avoid going out and stirring up unnecessary trouble.
He never intended to use this as an opportunity to do anything with Wanwan.
But now, Wanwan was about to get into his nest with him...
At the thought, a flush of heat spread through his entire body, his blood beginning to simmer.
Bai Wanwan’s hand had just reached her sash when Yan Lie’s own hand moved to help her untie it.
Seeing his eagerness, Bai Wanwan gave him a suspicious look. "Aren’t you supposed to be unwell? Where are you getting all this energy?"
Yan Lie’s hand froze. He immediately let go and flopped back down. "Ngh, still a little dizzy. You can untie it yourself."
Bai Wanwan watched him for a moment.
It was then she realized her worry had clouded her judgment. Yan Lie’s face was ruddy and his eyes were bright. He didn’t look like a sick person in the slightest.
The hand that had just been on her sash had been plenty strong, too.
’Hmph... so he’s just messing with me!’
But Bai Wanwan wasn’t angry. She still planned to lie with him for a while.
But her movements slowed, becoming deliberately teasing as she toyed with her sash, pulling at the knot without quite untying it.
Her robe slipped from one shoulder, revealing the smooth, pale skin beneath.
Yan Lie’s Adam’s apple bobbed. His gaze was fixed unerringly on the spot just below her collarbone.
His reaction made Bai Wanwan laugh in exasperation.
’How did this sweet, cheerful boy turn into such a lecher?’
Still, she could understand. Yan Lie had a one-track mind, and they had been interrupted so many times whenever they tried to get close.
"Wanwan, I’m not feeling well. Please, hurry and get in bed with me..."
Yan Lie’s voice had dropped, growing hoarse.
Bai Wanwan continued to untie her sash at a leisurely pace, when suddenly, a loud CLANG echoed from outside.
