Delayed for Four Lifetimes: I Awaken by Investing in My Crippled Wife
Chapter 95: The True Power Of Unranked Classes, Gods In The Making!
-----
Label’s eyes widened the moment she heard Riven speak about her father’s long-held dream. If there was anyone in this world Riven knew she still loved dearly, it was her dear father.
"Y-You... you knew of his dream?" she asked in a quiet, trembling voice.
Riven nodded slowly. "And I know that by trying to find a cure for cancer for your mother... he took on a massive loan and ended up becoming a drug dealer to cover the rising costs as well. That choice got him into a bunch of serious problems, and eventually... led to that unfortunate fate."
"..." Label’s lips trembled as an incredibly heartbroken expression spread across her face. The memories clearly still cut deep. "Yes... that’s... right... Sir—"
"Just call me Riven," he said gently. "I’m here to help. I know this is hard to believe, but... let’s say I owe your father a big favor. I intend to repay it properly."
Riven was obviously lying about the favor, yet he had to make up something quickly so Label could accept his reason for wanting to help her without growing too suspicious. Even though his true intentions were pure, the story needed to sound believable.
As someone who had lived most of her life being abused and had never been able to fully believe or trust anybody, Riven believed this carefully chosen lie was the best approach for now.
Perhaps in the future he will tell her the complete truth. For the present moment, however, this was how he planned to handle things.
Lying was not something he enjoyed doing at all, especially not to people he had begun to care for... but he understood that sometimes lying was the only practical option, and it could still be used for good purposes.
Everything depended on how one chose to use those lies.
"S-So you want to invest in me...? For me to create medicine?" she wondered aloud, her voice still shaky. "Do you own some kind of Medicine Production Company, Riven?" Her eyes sparkled lightly as a fragile spark of hope returned to them.
"No," Riven answered flatly and honestly. "However, I have already formed strong ties with Sunrise Pharmaceuticals."
"S-Sunrise?!" Label was visibly surprised to hear that name spoken so casually. "T-The biggest...! Pharma company in the country—maybe even the whole of America right now? They’re only ranked below Claymore..."
"Precisely," Riven nodded with calm confidence. "They offered me a very good deal, and I wanted to invite you to take part in this project with me. You have... an incredible talent. Your father once told me it could one day surpass even the greatest Alchemists in the world."
He watched her carefully as the weight of those words settled over her. The combination of her father’s remembered praise and the sudden possibility of real support seemed to stir something long buried inside Label. For the first time in a long while, the walls she had built around her heart showed a small crack of genuine possibility.
Riven remained silent for a moment longer, giving her space to process everything. He knew trust would not come easily, yet this conversation was the first careful step toward rebuilding the future her father had once dreamed of for her.
"Mine...?" she asked, clearly confused. "But... my Class is just... it’s not even a true Alchemist... It’s only a Novice Mixer. How can that possibly help with anything? I can barely mix a couple of ingredients without something going wrong."
"Classes can evolve," Riven explained calmly. "Yours, as the lowest ranked class, actually holds the greatest potential of all."
"C-Come again?"
This was something that the Claymore family and other major companies and powerful figures across the world had discovered long ago. Yet they continuously tried to cover it up while always enforcing harsh discrimination against low-ranked Awakened.
There was something special about low-ranked Awakened in general, but there were even more special ones among them. Those who started in the "Unranked" category were considered weaker than even the G Rank Hunters.
These special individuals numbered only a few dozen in the entire world. They were often discriminated against and treated as the most worthless, least talented people on the planet.
However, they possessed the most incredible Classes of all.
Evolution-Type Classes.
When a Class remained Unranked, according to secret investigations led by the Claymore family that Riven had once read in private, they were capable of continuously evolving without the usual hard limits.
Unlike those who awakened stronger, higher-tiered classes with better starting stats, who often hit a wall that could only be overcome through difficult methods such as consuming rare materials, finding specific class upgrade items, and other costly processes...
Unranked Classes possessed the rare power of Endless Evolution!
This was where the true irony began. These people held the greatest potential of anyone, yet very few of them ever managed to blossom as high as they truly could.
But there was one important thing they all had in common.
They had no external Authorities backing them.
These unique individuals had awakened "Personal Authorities," and their Classes themselves fully represented those Authorities.
They were, for lack of a better term... gods in the making.
This shy, weak girl who looked like she might die from a heart attack at any moment because of the constant fear she felt toward everything...
She carried exactly that kind of potential.
The higher-ups of the world, the greatest families with the strongest hunters, all knew the truth. They understood that this type of Awakened could even reach L Rank and beyond with almost no outside investment at all.
This was one of the main reasons they continuously pushed discrimination against the weak, raised prices on everything, and created more barriers... or well, it was one of the reasons. The other, more obvious reason was simple greed and their desire to monopolize every resource and opportunity.
"I don’t even have an Authority backing me," Label sighed quietly. "My Class is Unranked. My stats are low..." She sighed again, looking down at her hands. "I can barely mix two ingredients before the mixture explodes and I... mess up all the time."
"..."
Despite how little faith she had in her own abilities, Riven had already seen what Label could truly achieve in the future. Back then she had not even reached her full potential, yet she had still managed a single class upgrade on her own.
This time, he was determined to help her reach even higher than before.
He looked at her carefully, noticing the way her shoulders slumped and how her fingers twisted together in nervous habit. The fear in her eyes was real, but beneath it Riven could sense the same quiet spark he remembered from that other timeline. It was small, almost buried, yet it was still there.
"If you keep going, your Novice Mixer will not stay a Novice Mixer forever. It will change. And when it does, the people who looked down on you will not even recognize what you’ve become."
Label stared at him in silence for several seconds, her expression shifting between doubt and a fragile kind of hope. For the first time since they met, she did not immediately look away.
"...You really believe that?" she asked in a small voice.
"I do," Riven answered without hesitation. "And I’m going to prove it to you."
