Death… And Me
Chapter 4598: Hope
For a moment, Luxa felt as though something had enveloped her soul, giving her a surprisingly comfortable sensation. She looked at Rean immediately. She recognized it. That was Rean’s Light Element, but at the same time, it wasn’t quite the same. It was a special mixture that interacted with her own Yang Energy. ’It feels funny.’
Rean smiled. "What about the real purpose?"
’Right!’ Luxa concentrated, and after a few seconds, her eyes opened wide with excitement. ’It works! Lunelle isn’t there anymore! The other times you had me test it, there was always a little bit of Lunelle’s presence there, but now there is nothing!’
Obviously, this wasn’t the first time they had tried it. Rean had already made Lunelle and Luxa test the collar and anklet several times, although none of the previous prototypes had produced the result Rean and Sister Orb wanted.
"Hahaha!" Rean laughed out loud. "Then it’s a success! Sorry it took this long. It’s just that although your connection with Lunelle is similar to what Roan and I have, the two connections are ultimately different. Sister Orb and I had to try various arrangements and configurations based on the results of each test before we finally got the right combination."
Luxa didn’t mind in the slightest. ’I won’t be locked inside the Great Void or restricted to the Besgol Region anymore. I love this!’
[Well... that’s considering we’re right.] Sister Orb added.
Luxa became puzzled. ’I don’t understand.’
[My theory is that you’re being tracked through the resonance of your connection with Lunelle. It also explains why you were never found before. However, a theory is still just a theory. I might be wrong.]
Rean nodded. "Indeed. Also, losing this connection isn’t really a good thing. You saw what Roan and I can do when we share our elements as well as our Yin and Yang Energies, right? Once Lunelle’s mind matures enough, you could try doing the same thing with her, and both of you would become much stronger. Yet, with this collar and anklet, that connection will be blocked."
’I can be strong by myself!’ Luxa declared confidently.
"Of course!" Rean agreed without hesitation. "But there will be moments in your life when the opponent’s cultivation is simply too high. Don’t let your pride be the reason for your downfall. Look at me. I have no pride whatsoever. If using Roan’s element and Yin Energy gives me a guaranteed advantage, I’m absolutely going to use it. Only idiots would refuse to use the advantages available to them."
Luxa looked at Lunelle for a moment before turning back to Rean. ’I... will share when it is too dangerous.’
Rean immediately stroked her fur again. "Good girl! That’s the Luxa I like so much."
*Peck, peck, peck...*
Meanwhile, Lunelle was still trying to break the anklet Rean had put on her leg.
"Well, there’s only one way to know if it’s working," Rean said, looking at Lunelle.
*Vup, vup, vup!*
Then, the trio disappeared from the Great Void.
—
Outside, Roan saw Rean’s group appear beside him. Lunelle immediately flew onto his shoulder, obviously happy to be back where she could absorb his Yin Energy again.
Then...
*Peck, peck, peck...*
"Roan, just make sure she stops pecking at the anklet. I made it resistant enough that it won’t break easily, but it’s better to be safe than sorry," Rean said.
Roan nodded slightly and looked at the Eternal Night Raven. He was very short, only one word.
"Enough."
Immediately, the Raven stopped pecking, settled comfortably on his shoulder, and closed her eyes.
"That easy?" Rean couldn’t help but ask.
Roan wasn’t surprised. "Did you forget? She doesn’t understand words yet, but she understands intent. I simply used that."
Rean glanced at Luxa. That girl definitely wasn’t so easily convinced. "I... I see..."
Luxa was puzzled, and for some reason, she felt like they weren’t really talking about Lunelle.
Lukay took the opportunity to ask, "So... how is it?"
Rean shrugged. "We can only try it out."
Lukay didn’t seem particularly pleased with that answer. "You mean, wait and see?"
"What else is there?" Rean asked back.
Lukay then looked toward the direction of the Besgol Region. "Then... wouldn’t it be better to wait until we’re in Besgol first?"
"It would be meaningless," Roan explained. "If we reach the range of the Besgol Network, we could call for backup or set up a trap. The enemy would never reveal themselves at that point. We’d never know whether Rean’s collar and anklet are actually working."
Then, Roan looked at Rean. "Are you sure you can’t make a pair that works for us?"
Rean sighed. "Trust me, I wanted to. The System connection is simply too powerful. If anything, the interference it causes only ends up annoying us while we still very much can feel each other’s presence."
"Tch..." Roan could only give up on that dream as well.
Kachia couldn’t help but ask, "Let’s say the collar and anklet don’t work. What will we do if the enemy comes back? Are we hiding in the Dimensional Realm?"
"That’s the idea," Rean nodded.
"What about Aurundi?" Celis asked this time. "He doesn’t know about the Dimensional Realm."
"We can simply tell him when the time comes." Roan wasn’t concerned. "Entering the Dimensional Realm is instantaneous. I’ll tell him through Godly Sense not to resist the pull, and then we’re clean."
"Then we’d better pay very close attention so we aren’t caught by surprise." Celis returned to his position and focused on detecting the energy signals around them, trying to determine whether the enemy’s airplane would enter his detection range again. That was how he had detected them the first time, giving Roan the opportunity to deceive the enemy and kill one of them.
Roan, however, had other plans. "We aren’t going to stay hidden all the way, though."
—
Somewhere else, also flying in the direction of the Besgol Region...
Tapoqi poured his Celestial Energy into the tablet, but the device still gave him no response whatsoever. "It’s been over a month already. How long are they going to stay hidden?"
Krava checked the same thing. "They disappeared on the same day Corfitiu died at their hands. What if they’re still back there? We might be flying farther and farther away from them."
Doluno shook his head. "If we go back to Besgol instead and stay around the area where they’re expected to return, we still have a chance. Yet going back to where Corfitiu died and trying to find them there is pretty much guaranteed to end in failure. At least this way, we’ll be close enough if we manage to detect them. They have to go back to Besgol eventually, after all."
He paused before continuing. "Don’t forget that the tablets have a detection range limit. Right now, I’m betting they’re simply taking another route instead of hiding somehow. If we’re closer to Besgol, we’ll have a higher chance of finding them before they enter the Sacred Relic’s influence."
Krava and Tapoqi could only hope that was the case. Neither of them particularly liked the uncertainty, but there was little else they could do. If the twins’ group had truly changed their route, staying in the same place would accomplish nothing.
For now, all they could do was continue toward Besgol and hope their detection tablets finally reacted before the twins’ group reached the protection of the Sacred Relic.
