Death… And Me

Chapter 4569: Blue Moon

Inside the residence, Tobao could immediately see the annoyed expression on Roan’s face. "Amithaba... little friend Roan doesn’t seem very relaxed. Did something happen?"

Roan narrowed his eyes. "You happened."

"Ahem!" Rean quickly intervened before Roan could say anything else. "So, Senior Tobao, what brings you here?"

Tobao nodded, leaving Roan’s feelings aside. "Actually, I came for this little fella."

Everyone followed Tobao’s gaze toward the Raven perched comfortably on Roan’s shoulder. Only then did the reason for his visit become obvious to Rean and the others. "Right! Since this Raven has a similar origin to Luxa, the Sacred Relic went crazy when it noticed the approach!"

Tobao confirmed with a smile. "That is correct. Just like Luxa, this little friend also appears as an extremely powerful Godly Creature within the Sacred Relic’s range. It was good that you told me they had the same kind of origin. That calmed the other members of the Godly Subjugation Guild."

"Otherwise, I imagine there would have been quite a commotion when everyone realized another terrifying Godly Creature had suddenly appeared inside Besgol. Besides, with that former Sect Master among us, I didn’t want to bring up this topic during the meeting."

Roan took the Raven from his shoulder and let her perch on his arm. He, too, knew little to nothing about her. "Luxa, do you know anything? She did come from a womb similar to yours, but she is obviously from a completely different race... or maybe not? You are a fox... or at least look like one. This girl is obviously a Raven, a bird. The biology of you two almost couldn’t be any more different. A mammal against an avian. It doesn’t make much sense."

Luxa jumped onto Roan’s shoulder as well and sent her Godly Sense message to everyone present. ’Sorry. I don’t know. But I don’t think we are too different. I can feel her, and I’m sure she can feel me.’

"Her?" Tobao raised an eyebrow. "So it is a female, uh? Have you tested her power yet?"

Roan shook his head. "That was one of the things I intended to do before you came to pay us a visit. The problem is that she was born just a few weeks ago. She obviously doesn’t have the intelligence to understand our words or communicate through Godly Sense yet."

Rean immediately came up with an idea. "When I first met Luxa, I couldn’t talk to her either, but I conveyed my intentions to her. Luxa seemed to understand what I wanted to tell her back then, even if only in the simplest manner. You could try something similar by using your Yin Energy. This girl clearly loves it, so she might be able to understand what you’re trying to communicate through it."

Luxa immediately jumped from Roan’s shoulder to Rean’s. Her Godly Sense reached everyone in the room again. ’Yes! Intent! I can feel Rean’s intent too, through Rean’s Yang Energy. Very warm, very direct.’

Roan thought for a moment before nodding. "Let’s go to the yard."

They soon arrived at the back of the residence, where Roan pointed toward a large rock covered in several simple inscriptions. The rock served as a dummy for some basic tests. It could withstand a certain amount of power, but it was never meant to endure attacks from cultivators at higher realms.

Roan circulated his Yin Energy and focused his intent on the Raven. He didn’t try to force anything into her mind. Instead, he simply conveyed what he wanted her to do through the energy she instinctively desired.

The Female Raven looked at him for a moment.

Then, she took flight.

In the next instant, her small body burst with Water Element, Godly Energy, and Yin Energy. The navy-blue feathers on her wings spread as two strange blades of water formed along both sides. The blades were predominantly navy blue, but golden light flowed through them as well, creating a peculiar combination of colors that matched her two eyes.

She flapped her wings toward the rock.

*Zash! Zash!*

*Fla! Fla!*

The two water blades shot forward and struck the rock almost simultaneously, leaving two deep cuts where they landed. Small fragments of stone fell to the ground, while the Raven immediately turned around and flew back toward Roan. She landed on his shoulder and rubbed her head against him as though she were asking to be praised for completing the task.

Roan nodded slightly. He was quite satisfied with the result.

"Definitely the strength of an Initial Stage or so Anchor God. Considering how long she has been alive, that is definitely impressive. Newborns in the Celestial Plane are always in the Initial Stage of the Celestial Realm, after all. Her strength is an entire realm above them already. Of course, she can bring her energy outside her body and launch it as an attack, something Anchor Gods can’t do."

Rean approached with interest, with Luxa sitting proudly on his shoulder. "Basically the same strength Luxa had when I met her."

*Rawr!*

Luxa immediately became angry. ’Lies! I was stronger than that! Not by much, but I was!’

Rean stroked her fur. "I was talking in relation to the Anchor God Realm as a whole. Yes, you were stronger, something closer to a Late Stage Anchor God, but you were still an Anchor God."

*Rawr...*

Luxa clearly didn’t like that explanation. ’But I got much stronger very fast, even before I got one more tail.’

That was something the twins’ group found interesting. Luxa was right. She had become considerably stronger long before she evolved from two tails to three. The strange part was that they had never felt anything resembling a conventional stage breakthrough from her during that period.

From the looks of it, Luxa’s strength increased as her bloodline absorbed more and more Godly Energy and Yang Energy. There was also the energy that entered her red and golden eyes, which they believed functioned as her own personal set of cores. Her eyes and bloodline seemed to work together, constantly absorbing and refining energy to increase her strength.

What they were certain about was that Luxa’s cultivation did not work through the concept of stages like the twins’ group. Her growth was much more directly connected to her bloodline, her affinity with Yang Energy, and the strange power contained within her eyes and tails.

Initially, Luxa could barely hold her own against moderately strong Godly Spawns. Yet, by the end of the period before she gained her third tail, she could already fight against Godly Beasts, and not merely the weaker ones at that. Her improvement had been extremely rapid despite there being no obvious breakthrough between those increases.

Tobao thought about it for a moment before looking at Roan. "So, that’s to say, Luxa was born with a higher overall strength than the Raven, is it?"

Roan nodded. "Indeed. But I believe that’s because Luxa had the mantle to extract Yang Energy constantly during her gestation. This Raven, however, could only rely on dead souls. Or, to be more specific, the Yin Energy of Death that dead souls naturally generated. Her source of nutrients was much smaller, so she was born weaker than Luxa."

No one found any flaw in Roan’s theory. Considering everything they knew about the two creatures, that was most likely the case.

Tobao then approached Roan and slowly reached out to stroke one of the Raven’s feathers. However, the moment his hand came close, the female Raven immediately took flight and moved to Roan’s other shoulder, avoiding Tobao’s hand.

Tobao stopped with his hand still in the air. "Amithaba... she doesn’t seem to like me very much."

Luxa jumped from Rean’s shoulder onto Tobao’s shoulder this time, her Godly Sense still reaching everyone nearby. ’I like Yang Energy. She likes Yin Energy. You have lots of Yang Energy. She feels uncomfortable. She is not angry with you.’

"So that’s how it is..." Tobao immediately understood. "I have Lightning Element affinity, after all. My entire cultivation revolves around lightning, and my Lightning Element is a very strong Yang Element."

Luxa jumped back to Rean’s shoulder. ’Tobao’s Yang Energy is good, but Rean’s Yang Energy is best!’

Tobao didn’t mind in the slightest. "I couldn’t possibly be better than a cultivator with Light Element affinity, so I’m okay with it."

With that, Tobao was able to confirm what he had actually come to see. "Well, that is all I wanted to check. I just wanted to make sure this new little friend wasn’t presenting any risks to Besgol. Seeing Luxa develop such a close friendship with you shows me that the Raven can possibly turn out the same. That is a good thing."

Rean laughed. "Hahaha! They aren’t a danger. Even after Luxa got her third tail, she is still only somewhat as strong as an Initial or Middle Stage Zone God. She isn’t anywhere near strong enough to pose a threat to Besgol anyway."

*Rawr!*

’I’m developing fast! I will be strong soon!’ Luxa puffed out her chest as though she had just announced a grand achievement.

Rean didn’t doubt her confidence. "Then I’ll be counting on you in the future when things get dangerous for me instead."

*Rawr!*

’You can count on me!’ She looked extremely pleased with herself.

"Amithaba... this monk will not take any more of your time," Tobao said as he prepared to leave. However, just before doing so, he suddenly remembered something. "Oh, right. Rean, Roan, make sure to prepare a Ring Communicator for Luxa and... and... now that I think about it, what’s the Raven’s name?"

Rean’s eyes immediately lit up. "How abou-"

"The idiot stays quiet," Roan cut in before Rean could finish.

Rean’s expression twisted instantly. "Why do you always do this to me?!"

Roan completely ignored him. He took the Raven gently with both hands and brought her closer, looking directly into her eyes. The creature stared back at him without any fear or hesitation, seemingly waiting to discover what he intended to do.

Roan’s gaze then shifted to her feathers.

When she attacked the rock earlier, her feathers had displayed their navy-blue coloration again. Afterward, the color gradually faded back to black, just as Luxa’s fur always returned to its normal snow-white color once she stopped circulating her energy.

For some reason, the navy-blue color reminded Roan of something from his distant past.

His mind went back to the time when he had still been a Death Spirit collecting souls on Earth. He had spent many years there before meeting Rean. There was one rare phenomenon he remembered seeing on occasion: a blue moon appearing in the night sky under specific atmospheric conditions. The Raven’s navy-blue feathers reminded him of that unusual moon... even if there was a tinge of golden color also mixed in there.

Roan looked at the creature in his hands for a few more moments before finally speaking.

"Lunelle, your name is Lunelle."

The Raven stared at him.

For a moment, neither moved.

It almost seemed as if the two were having a private conversation that the others couldn’t understand. Then, the Raven slowly raised one wing and rubbed it against Roan’s hand before leaning her head against his palm. It seemed she liked the name.

At that moment, Roan received another call. It didn’t come from anywhere in Besgol, though. Instead, it was coming directly from Natak Region! -Is that the cultivator called Roan?-

Roan narrowed his eyes. ’And you are?’

-I’m Doluno, a Law God from the Thousand-Script Race,- the guy explained. -I only have ten minutes before the long-distance communication arrays are turned off. I would like to talk about your Eternal Night Raven.-
