Death... and me

Chapter 3616: Leave Them Behind?

Chapter 3616: Leave Them Behind?

With everything decided, they entered the new region, going straight for the nearby portal. To ensure everything was fine, they tested the portal with some items, like what Royer did when throwing a Divine Stone. Nothing happened, and they all nodded at each other and entered the portal the next moment.

They traveled through the Spatial Tunnel for a few minutes, which was a lot more than it usually took to go from the entrance to the exit of the portal. The twins’ group noticed that many of the experts there seemed excited because of that, and they could imagine why.

"Royer," Roan looked at the Spirit.

Royer smiled, telling what was happening. "As you probably guessed, this is one of those portals I mentioned before, the portals capable of skipping regions and going straight into the next ones. Based on the time it is taking for us to arrive at the exit, I’m pretty sure we are skipping two or three regions at once."

Roan pondered a bit. "What if the Astral Tree is located in one of the previous regions?"

"Unfortunately, there is no way for me to check that," Royer explained. "All you could do is go back after arriving at the other side and then check the previous regions. Obviously, that will take some time, and there might be no way of actually going back. That Molten Ocean Region is a very good example of a region that you can only go forward, not back."

"I see..." Roan thought a little more and shook his head. "Forget it. If the Astral Tree was left behind, then so be it. Although it is definitely the thing we want to find the most in this exploration, it was still not part of the original plan. Let’s hope we didn’t leave it behind."

Finally, the exit of the Spatial Tunnel appeared, and everyone was thrown out. As always, there was no portal behind them. They simply appeared in midair, falling to the ground the next moment. After landing, everyone spread their Divine Senses, checking how much it was possible to see as it looked like each region had its own level of restrictions.

This time, The twins’ Divine Senses could go as far as three kilometers, so the rest of the experts here probably couldn’t see more than two.

"So thirsty..." Someone suddenly commented.

Thirsty? They are all high-level experts. Thirst, hunger, and things like that had long since been conquered. Everything could be replenished with Divine Energy, so how could anyone be thirsty?

Yet, now that the guy said that, even Rean and Roan began to feel thirsty. "What is happening here?"

*Grow...*

Kentucky’s stomach echoed in the surroundings. "I’m actually hungry instead."

"Well, you are always hungry..." Rean commented.

"This is different!" Kentucky complained.

Roan controlled the Yin Energy in the surroundings to gather Water Element, soon creating a small stream of water for him to drink. Rean and the others did the same, while some brought out a few things to eat. Even if experts at their level had no need to eat or drink, they still appreciated such things, so they had their own ’menus’ inside their spatial rings and such. For example, the twins’ group often drank tea... especially when they wanted to annoy others.

Yet, even though Roan drank a lot, he still felt thirsty, and the sensation was only increasing. In his stomach, the water he drank was absorbed by his body and seemingly used immediately.

"What about you, Royer?" Roan asked the Spirit since they never had to drink or eat to start with.

However, both of them didn’t look very well. He saw how Earth Element kept gathering, entering their cores nonstop. "This place seems to be amplifying our most basic needs. Elsie and I are now constantly feeling the need to absorb Earth Element. We already do that naturally, but it is nowhere near enough at the moment."

For Rifindio and Grititi, they were also thirsty... for blood. That was very normal since they are Camazotz Bats. But where would they get blood now? Should they attack the other experts? Each of them was a Peak Stage Divinity Realm Expert, except for the twins’ group. Besides, it is pretty obvious that just drinking water, eating food, etc, isn’t enough. The sensation simply doesn’t disappear.

"Ah, I remember now!" Someone suddenly spoke. His name was Xonhei, a Demon Beast from the Golden Adorned Rooster Race. "This is the Never Satiated Region. As you already noticed, it makes you feel like you need more and more, but it is never enough."

He continued. "Right now, it is not a problem. We can ignore those sensations and press forward. However, the sensation of need for water, food, or whatever you are feeling will increase more and more and more. At some point, you won’t be able to control yourself and will try anything to satisfy your desires."

"Do you need water? You will grow crazy enough to think your companions’ blood has all the water you need! Are you hungry? Your companions’ meat will look like the only edible thing you can get your hands on.. or maybe a piece of your own body might be good, too. Are you a Spirit in need of a certain element? Well, the other spirits might have all the elements you need, or so you will think. It’s this kind of thing."

Everyone narrowed their eyes. "So, in the end, it is a test of will. A test to see if we can resist these urges."

"It is especially bad for us because we haven’t felt the need for such things in countless years," Royer commented. "At least not in a way where if we didn’t get it, we would die, different from when we were just starting our cultivation path."

Everyone agreed with Royer on that. "So, Xonhei, what do we need to do here?"

"As you said, this is a test of will... but also speed. We need to find a portal or cross into the next region before we grow crazy," he explained.

"Then let’s not waste time," Cafantrie spoke. "Royer, I’m sorry for your subordinates, but if they can’t keep up with our speed, we will leave them behind. It’s up to you to stay behind with them or not."

Royer would have laughed out loud if he wasn’t so thirsty for Earth Element at that moment. Leave the twins’ group behind? Sure, give it a try. "No problem here. Let’s go."
