Chapter 766: Chapter 479: I Am the Only One in the Heavens
However, the rocket above did not land nearby, but gradually descended at the edge of Tycho Crater on the far side of the Moon. They weren’t here to sound the alarm this time, so there was no need for a direct confrontation. According to the intelligence received by the three NASA astronauts in the module at this time, Wang Ye seemed unable to move freely in outer space, so he should be encased in a thick spacesuit and probably wouldn’t notice their arrival.
Their plan was clearly very successful. Wu Chen and the other two, who were familiarizing themselves with telekinesis in preparation for the mission, did not notice the outsiders. Wrapped in heavy spacesuits, their five senses couldn’t extend outward, making it difficult to perceive changes in the external environment. Moreover, sound doesn’t travel on the Moon, so no matter how loud the rocket was, it was hard for them to notice.
For Wang Ye, however, the rocket module overhead was as conspicuous as a brazen mouse flaunting itself in the marketplace. He took out a spacesuit, put it on, and quietly watched them land on the far side of the Moon.
A lunar lander roughly the size of a cargo ship slowly reduced speed through energy release at its base and landed on the ground, kicking up a ring of Moon dust.
Once it stabilized, an astronaut first opened the cabin door and stumbled out, dragging two deep furrows in the Moon dust with the soles of his boots. He barely grabbed hold of the safety rope to steady himself. The other two astronauts followed him out of the cabin in succession.
They scanned the surrounding terrain and then began communicating via radio.
"Did you see that just now?" asked a man with burn scars on his face in a deep voice.
"Yes, they are now less than ten kilometers away from us," replied another slender man with narrow eyes, nodding.
"How do we proceed with the mission?" inquired the man standing next to the slender man.
"Since they haven’t noticed us, we’ll carry out the plan as intended," said the scarred man after a moment of thought. "I’ll quietly approach their lunar module from the back in ten minutes. Jackson, follow behind me and be ready to respond at any time. Schneider, you stand back and observe the situation; if anything seems off, notify us immediately and use long-range strikes against the lunar module."
"Understood," the other two responded.
The plan had been confirmed countless times before their departure, so there was no need for further discussion.
They were experts in fields like chemistry, all with at least master’s degrees, and had years of experience at NASA. Their intelligence was naturally high, with strong adaptive abilities, which was the primary reason the higher-ups sent them on this mission.
Although none of them possessed combat skills or battle experience, the mission didn’t require it.
In front of Wang Ye, any combat experience was useless; a seasoned assassin was no different from a newborn baby. What mattered most for this task was intelligence and adaptability—how to quickly place the bomb next to the lunar module. If the situation became urgent, they could even detonate the bomb, perishing together with the lunar module or other astronauts.
Soon, the three of them swiftly parted ways to commence their respective tasks.
The tall and slender man called Schneider took a long-barreled electromagnetic cannon from the lunar module and headed towards a nearby elevated area.
Due to the Moon’s low gravity, walking was very difficult for him, almost like moving slowly.
Meanwhile, the scarred man and Jackson carried high-energy explosive components, traveling towards Wang Ye on a small Moon rover.
A moment later, they arrived behind Wu Chen and the others, then got off the vehicle, preparing to stealthily approach Wu Chen’s lunar module on foot. Their walking posture was very clumsy, raising dust more than two meters high with each step. Compared to Wu Chen’s stable gait, they looked ridiculously endearing, like penguins in Antarctica. But they didn’t notice Wang Ye, standing straight five hundred meters away, staring right at them.
After sneaking through three hundred meters, they reached the back of the Chinese Lunar Landing Module and took out the high-energy explosive components. This high-energy explosive device resembled C4 explosives, like a lump of clay, easily installed on the target and then quickly left.
However, its power wasn’t very great, and the blast radius wasn’t wide, because their primary goal was to destroy this lunar module, so extensive damage wasn’t necessary, just enough to disable the lunar module.
Doing so would effectively leave Wang Ye and the other three astronauts stranded on the Moon, cutting off their extraordinary path.
As they were about to install the high-energy explosive device on the lunar module, they suddenly discovered an invisible barrier blocking them.
It was as though encased in a seamless glass shield.
"Is this... new technology? Could it be some kind of energy barrier?"
"No, even if it’s an energy barrier, it shouldn’t have this texture..."
They were astounded, closely inspecting the transparent barrier. But before they could lean in for a closer look, a powerful force suddenly pushed them away.
Boom!!!
They flew backward, tracing a gentle arc through the air, before lightly crashing to the ground, rolling several times.
