Chapter 749: Chapter 470: The Inextinguishable Soul Flame_2
But actually, only a very few people know that the preset lifespan within human genes is actually around thirty years.
The truly optimal reproductive period for humans is between fifteen and thirty years old.
After thirty, most men gradually find themselves unable to reproduce as effectively.
This marks the genetic end-stage of life. In other words, humans, once past thirty, essentially enter old age.
Additionally, the lifespan of many human organs is only about thirty years.
Take the thymus for example.
After the age of thirty, the thymus begins to shrink until it completely degenerates. The human tooth replacement period only lasts until around fifteen, and the final set of permanent teeth, according to the natural rule, would generally be worn down by the age of thirty, rendering them unusable to tear apart prey for sustenance, leading to starvation.
Yet the average human lifespan still exceeds seventy years, even surpassing a hundred for some individuals.
This is because advances in human technology have provided undeserved maintenance to the human body. Organs originally meant to fail at thirty have survived longer due to the shift from raw to cooked foods. Permanent teeth meant to be worn out by thirty have been preserved past seventy due to dental technologies such as brushing and fillings. Even if all teeth are lost, people can obtain enough nutrition with liquid foods or dentures.
This means that the additional forty years of life humans now enjoy stem from defying predestined fate. Extending life from a mere thirty years to seventy or even over a hundred.
As a result, few humans die peacefully in their sleep; more likely they suffer from diseases or cancer, or succumb to organ failure, experiencing significant pain before death.
In contrast, most creatures in nature, excluding a few with weak constitutions or those struck by infectious diseases, generally manage to die naturally.
So, how exactly does the consciousness that changes everything come into being?
Could it really be just an accidental byproduct of four billion years of evolution? This implies that there might truly only be one advanced intelligent species like humans in the cosmos, as the probability of evolving intelligence is exceedingly low. If it weren’t guided by some inevitability, the emergence of wisdom would be astronomically unlikely.
Humans have speculated in many ways about the composition of the Soul.
For example, the classic dimensional theory.
Suppose the Cosmos is divided into one-dimensional, two-dimensional, and three-dimensional spaces, then humans live in a three-dimensional world with length, width, and depth,
while characters drawn on paper are considered two-dimensional beings, and anime enthusiasts call themselves second-dimensional beings.
The mysterious Soul then exists in a zero-dimensional world, with no length, width, or depth.
It now seems that this "zero-dimensional" concept is closer to what is understood as the microscopic quantum world.
In the quantum mechanics yet to be fully understood by humans, microscopic particles exhibit wave-particle duality, whereby they can display as both particles and waves.
When a microscopic particle is in a superposition state, it can appear in multiple places at once, simultaneously anywhere in the Cosmos, a state known as quantum superposition.
This trait is actually quite similar to descriptions of the zero-dimensional world as well as the Soul.
Thought can penetrate anything, appearing anywhere, anytime; as soon as you start recalling or imagining, thought instantly spreads and moves to any place in the Cosmos.
Besides the zero-dimensional concept, humans have also discovered neutrinos as a fundamental particle.
Neutrinos are fermions among subatomic particles, uncharged, minimal in mass, and interact very weakly with other matter, making them extremely difficult to detect.
What’s more, neutrinos are a very ancient particle, born just seconds after the Big Bang.
It can be said the Cosmos has lived 13.8 billion years, and neutrinos have existed for 13.8 billion years.
Neutrinos are everywhere in the Cosmos, for example, countless neutrinos are passing through everyone’s body at this very moment.
Given their detection difficulty, people have nicknamed neutrinos "ghost particles." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ
Moreover, not long ago in Guangdong, China, 700 meters underground, a neutrino laboratory was established.
Dedicated to neutrino detection, leading many online speculators to claim this equipment is used to capture ghosts in the Underworld.
This statement was wildly popular online, causing many to believe neutrinos equated to the so-called Soul.
But is that really the case? Even Wang Ye doesn’t know. Yet from the current traits exhibited by the Primordial Spirit, it seems indeed to possess some traits of microscopic particles. The Primordial Spirit can interact with matter, but it can also permeate any substance. Moreover, its consciousness seems to alter the world, distort space-time, create local space-time curvature, and even predict the future in specific locations. These phenomena closely align with many theories in quantum mechanics.
"Must we really resort to quantum mechanics to solve every mystery?" Wang Ye furrowed his brows tightly.
Even so, if Souls were truly integrated into quantum mechanics.
A lot of things would start making sense.
Wang Ye never understood how consciousness, formed by countless brain neurons and bioelectricity, and heavily influenced by body hormones—rooted in the body—could be capable of leaving the brain, enabling Primordial Spirit Emergence.
But attributing this to quantum mechanics could explain it as his consciousness being in a superposition state, present both in the brain and externally. Using Schrodinger’s cat as an analogy, in the moment of Soul emergence, no one but himself can observe where his consciousness exists; he is both dead and alive.
Such interpretations seem too abstract; even Wang Ye struggles to comprehend them fully.
But it remains the sole explanation for Primordial Spirit Emergence; otherwise, how can consciousness, rooted in the brain, leave and inhabit others’ bodies, even achieve permanent possession? Is consciousness truly just data that can be stored on a USB drive?
If consciousness were merely data, humans could theoretically copy it and download it into robots to create immortal machine life.
However, creating life is not so simple. If life were truly creatable, and consciousness could be simulated, AI would have already developed true consciousness by now. Today’s AIs supplant humans in terms of information capacity and logical operation yet haven’t manifested consciousness. If human higher intelligence were merely the result of sufficiently complex neurons, AI should have no reason to fail in developing consciousness.
The only current explanation is that each consciousness is a quantum information packet, a unique micro-particle entity.
However, Wang Ye’s consciousness has reached a level sufficient to influence reality, cross dimensions, distort time and space. Even—ignite an eternal Soul Flame.
Reflecting on this, Wang Ye’s mind seemed to suddenly unlock a new path,
leading to a peculiar epiphany.
Simultaneously,
in the system panel, the Skill Level of Samadhi True Fire accelerated rapidly.
Upgraded from level three to level four, then from four to five.
It took only a few minutes.
Meanwhile, the Blazing Red Lotus surrounding Wang Ye became increasingly grand, enveloping the entire forest.
The inner forest was seared to charcoal, while the perimeter caught fire, the temperature slightly lower igniting a fierce blaze. The waves were forced back several dozen meters, with vast amounts of seawater turned into steam rising to the sky.
Wang Ye suddenly opened his eyes, in which a crimson glow began to flow.
Before him, a new Trait appeared.
