Chapter 748: Chapter 470: The Undying Soul Flame
According to reason, all organisms on Earth, including humans, evolved from the cyanobacteria on Earth. All accidental incidents that occurred billions of years ago on Earth have become the foundation for all existing organisms.
The reason why most organisms rise early and rest late is because the early bacteria’s release of oxygen followed a pattern with diurnal rhythms.
The reason why most organisms engage in mating and reproduction is because the birth and evolution of early single-celled organisms and later advanced organisms fundamentally aimed to protect genetic information.
To protect genetic information, organisms evolved various abilities for resource competition or self-preservation.
The salamander’s regeneration ability, the venom gland ability of venomous snakes, and the most common sharp claws and teeth among carnivores.
All these are actually to protect genetic genes.
Protect oneself, protect offspring, protect the entire group.
To the point where individual organisms evolved extraordinary abilities, nature, in the quest for balance, allowed other organisms to concurrently evolve stronger abilities. Talk about the height of the magic keeping pace with the height of the road. In essence, it’s internal competition, which has persisted for billions of years, turning the once desolate star into today’s bustling planet filled with skyscrapers.
That means leaving behind offspring is the most important task of all organisms. And traits like claws and strong bodies evolved by tigers, and advanced intelligence and manual dexterity evolved by humans, are essentially byproducts of mating and reproduction. But humans can use science to dissect the evolutionary process of claws, and teeth, as well as the regenerative venom glands and other abilities held by other organisms.
However, all scientific knowledge humans currently possess cannot trace back to determine the origins of consciousness and unique human advanced wisdom.
Humans are defined as humans because they possess abstract thinking, moral conscience, reflective capacity, creativity, and many other qualities not found in lower animals.
Strictly speaking, these qualities seemingly emerged suddenly on Earth in the past tens of thousands of years.
And human technology, along with humans truly becoming the dominators of Earth, is only a development of a few thousand years. On the time scale of the four billion years, this period is pathetically short.
Thus, the appearance of biological consciousness or advanced wisdom is quite peculiar. Although organisms from billions of years back also evolved consciousness, it was more mechanical survival instincts rather than complex abstract consciousness. There was no self-reflection and certainly no scientific creation, and over the billions of years, the level of wisdom in organisms seems not to have changed significantly.
In actuality, organisms themselves shouldn’t have consciousness. Because from the very beginning of biological existence, consciousness appeared as just a chemical reaction arising fortuitously, formed by numerous brain cells in complex ways. It’s no different from materials like stones, water, planets, etc.
Even strictly speaking, human advanced wisdom is of no benefit to the biological reproduction and contradicts the fundamental genetic logic. Advanced consciousness in human society creates entertainment, technology, culture, and other elements unique to human civilization. Yet these offerings are not seen as beneficial for biological reproduction, and even later stages may severely hinder reproduction.
From current human statistical data, it can be observed that the smarter the person, the more they resist reproducing offspring. The more complex human consciousness becomes, the more conflicts arise, marginalizing the biological task of reproduction, accompanied by increased considerations and resistance or fear towards reproduction. In recent years, there have even been so-called conflicts between genders in multiple countries, further reducing birth rates.
In many countries, the population borders on precarious levels—the future pensions are hard to disburse.
To the extent that by the level of Wang Ye, sexual desire has completely vanished. It can thereby be concluded, the intelligence born of advanced consciousness is actually a mistake in biological genetic evolution, because it nearly obstructs the reproduction of the human race, impairing the protection of genetic information.
Moreover, it’s known that an organism’s lifespan is usually determined by its mating reproductive capacity. In nature, once organisms pass the adolescent stage, organs swiftly deteriorate leading to death. For example, rodents, whose lifespan in nature is usually only a year, and during this brief year, predominantly spend over 80% of their time in the stage of arousal, leading to post-reproductive death.
In other words, the ultimate goal of organisms is actually mating.
After mating is complete, the individual loses its existential significance. Genes trigger its rapid demise to avoid wasting resources and affecting the development of offspring.
And the faster-reproducing organisms also have shorter lifespans. Species like rodents, capable of birthing dozens of offspring in a year, only live for that brief year. Mosquitoes are even more exaggerated, capable of producing thousands of offspring within their brief one-to-two-month lifespan.
This rule is actually extremely cruel, meaning regardless of any organism, lifespans rarely exceed a hundred years, since breeding periods of any organism are just so short.
For example, humans,
Humans are already considered among the species with the longest breeding periods in nature.
A single pregnancy usually takes nine to ten months.
Hence, humans are also regarded as a kind of longeval species within Earth’s biosphere, only a few turtles and large marine organisms can outlive humans.
