Cursed Immortality

Chapter 1275: Battle of Myths (4)

  • Next Chapter

While the other Quasi-Myths had already revealed their true forms and were even forced to use their celestial astrolabes, elsewhere, Jacob silently exchanged arrows with three Dukes of Death.

As black arrows streaked across collapsing space, every shot perfectly interrupted their attacks, and every movement forced them to alter their rhythm.

Yet, he appeared to be constantly retreating, blocking, and barely dodging, exactly like a Quasi-Myth struggling against overwhelming odds, but despite that, the Myth of Black Archer never unraveled his celestial astrolabe or any terrifying ability.

But for this exact reason, the skeletal Executioner roared furiously, the Nightmare Knight charged again and again, and the Three-Headed Death Python flooded the battlefield with corpse venom. Still, not a single attack landed.

However, Jacob continued firing, one arrow after another, always forcing them back just enough to prevent them from coordinating. His ’difficulty’ only made the three Dukes increasingly furious.

"...Coward!"

"...Stand still!"

The three Dukes finally couldn’t endure it and fully unleashed their power, and three rotten celestial astrolabes unfolded behind them, with the ancient gray glyph within each orbiting with overwhelming Death Authority.

Their pressure increased dramatically, but even then, Jacob merely retreated another step, and another arrow quietly left his bow. His aura never changed, and his celestial astrolabe never appeared; his true strength remained completely hidden.

To everyone watching, the Myth of Black Archer looked like the weakest among the five Quasi-Myths, but this was exactly as Jacob intended. Because he was never interested in killing the Dukes of Death, for this would reveal his identity.

At least he didn’t want to draw any suspicions until the Myth of Reverend showed himself. Not only did Jacob know that the most familiar with his power were not the Mythical Collation, but even the Myth of Reverend barely knew who he was; the one who could expose him was none other than the Undead Skyfall!

That’s why Jacob was very careful to emulate the Myth of Black Archer’s abilities, while keeping his own power in check, and a tiny fraction of his attention remained on the battle.

Jacob also noticed a peculiar anomaly. The overwhelming majority was silently sweeping across the depths of the Undead Skyfall.

His Eyes of Judge remained dormant; instead, his extraordinary perception silently expanded, past countless battlefields, endless undead legions, and mountain after mountain.

Once he reached toward the regions no undead had entered, Jacob’s brows almost imperceptibly furrowed because this was far too strange. It turned out that the deeper regions of the Skyfall were empty; not even a single patrol, lich, corpse giant, or Legendary King was there.

It was as though every undead instinctively avoided crossing an invisible boundary, almost like forbidden territory or perhaps a sanctuary.

Jacob silently memorized everything.

’Why? Not a single undead to guard the Undead Skyfall? Even sending all the Quasi-Myths here? Is that sealed thing doing something while buying time?’

Jacob wasn’t a fool or arrogant to think that the Undead Skyfall was afraid after all, even while fifteen Quasi-Myths fought above, even while hundreds of millions battled below; that region remained eerily silent. It almost felt disconnected from the war itself.

For the first time since arriving, a faint sense of unease surfaced within Jacob, and he had a feeling that something was buying time for something.

Right at that moment, suddenly...

’BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!’

An indescribable pulse erupted from the deepest reaches of the Undead Skyfall Canyons. It wasn’t particularly violent, nor especially loud, yet every undead on the battlefield suddenly trembled.

Their ghostly flames flared violently, and even the fifteen Dukes simultaneously let out terrifying roars, while the six who were waiting seemed to suddenly erupt with bizarre killing intent.

The next moment, the Death Authorities of the Quasi-Myths who were fighting suddenly expanded explosively. Every attack became noticeably stronger, and every spell became vastly more destructive. The pressure blanketing the battlefield instantly doubled.

It wasn’t just Jacob who had noticed this, but all the Quasi-Myths still in battle instantly sensed it.

"What?!" The Myth of Inferno’s pupils contracted as he was blasted backward by the Poison Wyvern’s wing.

The Myth of Thunder was forced back hundreds of meters by the skeletal giant’s hammer. Myth of Dark Blaze’s infernal flames shrank. Myth of Venom’s poisonous world visibly trembled. Even Myth of Alchemy’s formations began collapsing one after another.

The expressions of all five Quasi-Myths changed dramatically.

"They’re..."

"...getting stronger?!"

"No..."

The Myth of Alchemy’s voice became grave as he analyzed the situation instantly, "Their Death Authority in their Quasi-Astrolabes is being amplified through those mysterious glyphs!"

The realization struck everyone like a bucket of ice water because this wasn’t merely an army commanded by a God anymore. But now it seemed they were fighting inside that God’s domain, and the deeper the battle progressed, the stronger the Undead would become.

Above the battlefield, the remaining six Dukes slowly smiled like hungry wolves watching exhausted prey, their rationality clouding, and they seemed ready to join in at any moment.

At that moment, beneath the hood of the Myth of Black Archer, Jacob’s expression finally changed as his eyelids slowly lifted, and the darkness within his hood disappeared.

In its place, two hollow eye sockets emerged, ancient and emotionless, as if judging all existence.

Within those empty sockets, two golden-white flames slowly ignited, and the Eyes of Judge finally opened.

Right now, Jacob couldn’t continue to use the vision of Myth of Black Archer because this entire battlefield suddenly felt like some elaborate scheme.

Furthermore, from his last encounter with the Undead Skyfall, the latter didn’t seem like some battle-hungry maniac who wanted to kill everyone. In fact, the moment the Undead Skyfall sensed the danger from Jacob, the latter called back every Undead to guard this place.

Yet now, not only had the Undead Skyfall sent every Quasi-Myth at "His" disposal out here, but it didn’t seem to care whether someone would break into the sealed region while taking advantage of this situation.

This did not sit well with Jacob, and now this sudden surge of power made him slightly uneasy, and that’s why he opened the Eyes of Judge to see if he could find anything unusual.

Jacob would’ve been more relaxed if this was just his imagination and if all those Undead had simply gone mad and out of control.

But the moment Jacob opened the Eyes of Judge, he couldn’t help but sigh with a hint of frustration because he was right!
