Cultivation Struggles of a Lowly Fox
Chapter 901 – Sect Leader, you have miscalculated
With that mission out of the way, Moon Aiko was looking forward to what Mei would wear.
However, for some reason, nobody was able to find Mei, following that, there was no Dai Lu and few other Foxes.
"This is not fair." Moon Aiko pouted.
"Jade Fox will come back." Yuxi encouraged Aiko.
"But by that time everything will be over!" Moon Aiko sulked even more. Why was she not invited to the party?!
"..." The group of Foxes around her pursed their lips.
Alright, this was definitely the Vicious Jade Fox that they know of, but how were they supposed to soothe her...?
Moon Aiko sulked for a while, but then one of the Foxes said something interesting.
"I think we can start preparing the beach, there are too many rocks to be enjoyable." It was one of the Foxes from the rehabilitation zone. It seemed like the beach idea was good enough that even the 'reclusive' Foxes liked it enough to try it out.
"Okay, we can deal with that." Moon Aiko nodded her head. Now that she had something to do, she would be occupied enough that she wouldn't be able to think about where Mei went...
-----
Mei walked down a long hallway.
"You have refurbished this ship quickly." She was currently walking down the Southern Sect's continental flying ship.
"That is only natural. If we don't give the Northern Imbeciles a reason, they can't openly attack us. As for their provocations, they are like children throwing tantrums." The Southern Sect's Grandmaster guided them around. He wished to establish an even friendlier alliance, but for that he had to convince the 'Jade Fox'.
Not many individuals deserved the name to have 'jade' in it, but this Fox truly embodied it, both in beauty and charisma.
"He is indeed quick." Dai Lu chuckled, and the Grandmaster proudly straightened his back. "I can still see the sword marks around from prying everything off."
"Ugh." The Grandmaster groaned. "You could've just ignored that..."
Dai Lu giggled, it was fun teasing him like this.
"But, there are more than I anticipated." Mei narrowed her eyes. There were many curious eyes sneaking glances at her and her group.
"We are moving the Sect." The Southern Sect pretty much ruined the Movement Array by transporting so many Disciples, so now they had to move a bit more of them than anticipated.
"And the others are not suspicious?" Dai Lu narrowed her eyes. Usually every Sect would have a hard limit on how many Disciples they can transport, but this was above said limit.
"As long as they don't go out until we are above the ocean, we can easily fool them." The Grandmaster shrugged like it was not a big deal.
"Fair." Mei nodded her head, but still narrowed her eyes. "What did you wish to discuss?"
"No wonder you are called a Jade Fox.' The Grandmaster had to appreciate her wit. "We would like to establish a... well, a friendlier alliance between our Sect and the new 'Fox Village'." He didn't know if they picked a new name, so he was a bit awkward about this whole situation.
"I'm listening." Mei didn't hear any benefits, so she just nudged him to continue.
The Grandmaster coughed. He didn't really prepare any benefits, since even the Fox Sect would jump on this opportunity.
However, this was neither the Fox Village nor the Fox Sect, and that's exactly what made this dangerous.
They knew their limits, they understood where they stood, and they didn't hesitate to leverage their position.
Compared to the Fox Village and Sect, this was clearly a dangerous organisation.
However, danger was in the eyes of the beholder. Some might see this as danger worthy of eradication, while others might believe this is the greatest opportunity.
The Grandmaster was the latter.
"..." The Grandmaster paused for a while, thinking about it.
"We will leverage our Sect's Library." The Grandmaster made his decision and stood on it.
This text was taken from NovelPhoenix. Help the author by reading the original version there.
Mei was startled. One could say that Sect's Library was not only its legacy, but also its weakness.
"You don't have that kind of authority, no?" However, Mei would not be easily swayed.
"I will make it happen." The Grandmaster said with conviction.
"Then we can talk about it when you have the authority." Mei would not budge on this. It was important that the one who promised had actually the power to make it happen.
"Very well." The Grandmaster was not discouraged. He knew the worth of the Fox Village-
"That won't happen." The Sect Leader of the Southern Sect on the mainland immediately rejected that motion.
"Gosh." The Grandmaster touched his face, being troubled. "Then I will just have to use the whole Library of the Southern Sect on the island." He smiled so innocently that it was actually the most punchable expression in the universe.
*choke*
The Sect Leader of the Southern Sect on the mainland almost choked to death. "You will pay for this."
"I think not." The Grandmaster smiled brightly, making the Sect Leader of the Southern Sect on the mainland pause.
"Elaborate." The Sect Leader leaned back.
"The Fox Village no longer exists." The Grandmaster had to set things straight.
"???" The Sect Leader heard some rumours, but they all were rejected by the Fox Sect, so hearing it actually happen made him rethink his choices.
"How many Foxes are still alive?" The Sect Leader wanted to prepare, maybe he could even nab a few Foxes for their Sect?
"I would reconsider, Sect Leader." The Grandmaster chuckled darkly.
"I can't believe you are actually threatening me." The Sect Leader was flabbergasted. "Fine, fine. Bring over a Fox for me to discuss this with."
The Grandmaster didn't say anything and just opened the door.
"The negotiation failed, so I apologise." The Grandmaster let the Jade Fox in, since the Sect Leader wanted to talk.
"You are gorgeous." The Sect Leader involuntarily blurted out, before coughing right after out of embarrassment.
"Why thank you." Mei chuckled, shaking her head. She was not fond of humans, but wondered what changed when she was not around.
"So, the Fox Village is still alive?" The Sect Leader was quite straightforward, which Mei liked.
"That is incorrect. We do not belong to the Fox Sect." Mei shook her head.
The Sect Leader's eyebrows briefly twitched. Chances are, they would try to seek other Sects for protection and home, so he should probably-
"We are not looking for a place to stay. The Grandmaster-" Mei gestured towards the Southern Sect Grandmaster as she sat down. "-Wished to establish a more friendly relationship with us, but there is no merit for us."
The Sect Leader's face twitched. This oppression, this cunningness. It felt similar to the Foxes that were banished from the Fox Sect, but this Fox came from the Fox Village, so it was impossible those two were the same.
However, he could no longer underestimate this Fox.
So it was time to bargain. "We can offer Herbs-"
"We are not lacking those." Mei already had more than enough, and she would be able to buy more later, there was no need to take something this cheap.
The Sect Leader felt quite stupid. "How about Treasure-"
"We have already raided the Nightmare Forest, there is no need for us to take inferior things." The vast majority of things that Aiko brought back from the Nightmare Owl Clan were very old Treasures.
Not only were they old and of high quality, but because of this, they could also be repaired to perfect condition once they settled down for a while.
This meant that their value would far exceed anything that the Southern Sect could offer.
"We have many high-quality Treasures." The Sect Leader didn't believe that Fox would be unmoved.
"Are they at least a thousand years old?" Mei tilted her head cutely.
At this point, the Sect Leader felt like he was kicking a metal plate.
"What do you want?" It felt like he wouldn't be able to win against her, so he just conceded.
"The knowledge, the techniques... are fine." Mei smiled innocently.
"Curse you." The Sect Leader glared at the Grandmaster, soon-to-be an Elder in the main Sect.
The Grandmaster shrugged. "Even then, I believe that is cheap."
"Oh?" The Sect Leader had quite enough of this bullshit. "What can you do? Create an independent illusion on par with reality?" He snorted disdainfully. While he did want to ally with the Foxes, being seen as a pushover was not good. He had to stand his foot and show-
*Pffft*
The Sect Leader spat out the tea that he was so calmly drinking. "Wait, you were on a flying ship this whole time?!"
The Sect Leader was completely speechless, since the scenery was that of a beach near the ocean and not a flying ship, much less a flying ship that belonged to the Northern Sect.
"That would be the case." The Grandmaster chuckled. This was his plan to simply show the strength of the Foxes in the most straightforward fashion possible.
"Hold on, wait a minute. Isn't that the Northern Sect carving?!" The Sect Leader almost fainted. He could feel his blood pleasure rising.
"That's right." The Grandmaster smiled. "I was fortunate enough to be able to buy the ship from the Foxes."
"... What in the world..." The Sect Leader plopped back somewhat weakly. His brain had a hard time processing what was happening.
"Did you steal it?" The Sect Leader asked the Fox.
"Oh my, how rude of you." Mei shamelessly acted like she was hurt by those words.
"..." The Sect Leader was not buying it.
"I will have you know that all of the flying ships in my possession are either from the former Fox Village, or acquired by repelling an invasion." Mei snorted unhappily.
'Invasion...' The Sect Leader didn't know much about it, since all of the Sects were so damned quiet about the whole thing.
He couldn't verify the situation, so he couldn't believe 100% the reports from the Southern Sect, but if he could.
"My lord..." The Sect Leader had a painful headache. If all of that was true, not only did they have a fleet of continental flying ships, flying ships and Elders, but they also had Treasures and resources that were on those ships.
Calling them wealthy wouldn't cut it!
"How many are fully functional?" The Sect Leader was considering buying a few.
"Just one." Mei smiled innocently again.
The Sect Leader clicked his tongue as he looked at the Grandmaster who was holding in his laughter.
"Just laugh you damn...!" The Sect Leader was frustrated. Forget this situation, everything about this was abnormal! Everyone knew that the Fox Villages are not powerful to repel even one Sect, much less 3!
If the Southern Sect at least helped, but there was no mention of this in the report...!
'What am I going to do...' The Sect Leader could use intimidation when his opponent was weaker, but he severely miscalculated because he didn't believe those reports!
