Chapter 2040  Dealing with the Formation Spirit's Demon Beasts Problem (2)

Deciding on how to approach the demon beasts without being noticed before he could attack, he didn't immediately jump forward to deal with the demon beasts. Instead, he first attempted to see if he could get some help from the formation spirit before he made his move. After all, everything he was doing was essentially for the purpose of helping the formation spirit while at the same time using the opportunity to complete the side quest.

Maybe not that surprisingly, he did get an answer from the formation spirit upon requesting assistance, though it was clear that the formation spirit couldn't do much more than help him provide a distraction when he made a move. Buying him a bit more time to properly assess the overall strength of the twenty demon beasts that he needed to take down.

To be honest, he didn't expect any help from the formation spirit given how it had seemingly vanished after asking him for help, so the little assistance it planned to provide was more than welcome.

Still, he didn't entirely count on the help and planned to carry out his attack like he had originally planned without relying on the formation spirit's help. In that way, he would at least feel confident that nothing would go wrong if the formation spirit ended up backing out at the last second.

However, even with everything ready, he still had to wait for an opportunity, something that ended up taking far longer than he had originally anticipated, as he found himself circling around the battlefield centered on the massive star at the core of the dark space for close to an hour before an opportunity presented itself.

Waves of pressure spreading throughout the dark space as rolling clouds followed by terrifying lightning began crashing against the massive star, causing the very space around it to shake violently as lightning continued to flash followed by two equally powerful attacks working in tandem to support the terrifying lightning. Elevating it to a level far beyond anything he had witnessed in the past, the lightning seemed to reach a brand-new realm that caused even the immovable star at the core to shake, the formation itself being forced back for a few short seconds in the face of the terrifying power. Revealing the scene hidden beneath the bright barrier formed into the shape of a massive star.

Although difficult to see from his point of view, he did manage to catch a glimpse of what looked like an ancient mansion on the other side… And however brief and incomplete this glance was, it still counted in the eyes of the system, as he saw that the side quest had officially been completed thanks to the effort that had been put in by the demon beasts.

Still, he didn't have any time to redeem the reward from the system, as outside of the current situation being helpful in completing the side quest, it also presented him with the opportunity he had been waiting for.

The terrifying attack not just damaging the formation core but also helping throw the entire space into a chaotic mess that made it far easier for him to approach without being noticed by any of the demon beasts in the process. Especially so since the three strongest demon beasts had just used all their strength for a combined attack and would need some time to recover.

And without the slightest bit of hesitation, he rushed forward before hiding himself behind one of the somewhat larger ruins close to the core of the dark space. Knowing that the smaller ruins stood no chance of resisting the terrifying residual wave generated by the attack just now heading his way-

And indeed, like he had expected, the terrifying residual power of the attack that should have barely managed to reach the Venerable Realm directly tore apart the smaller ruins made of floating rocks. Even the large ruin he was hiding behind, a small portion of an ancient tower standing a little over a hundred meters tall, was directly reduced to a height of no more than a dozen or so meters. Only surviving thanks to the angle that the section of the ancient tower had faced the terrifying residual wave of power, as facing it standing upright would undoubtedly have erased the small tower section completely to dust.

Shocking as the mere remnant power washing over him was, he didn't have much time to ponder how he would have fared facing that kind of power on his own, as he didn't have much time to move before the demon beasts resumed their attacks on the formation core in the shape of a massive star. Jumping through a nearby somewhat intact window before rapidly rushing towards the core of the dark space without using his divine sense. Knowing that the second his divine sense spread outwards, he would be noticed by the demon beasts.

After all, though his targets were located at the core of the dark space near the formation core, most of the weaker demon beasts didn't stay there and instead encircled the formation core a bit farther away. Not able to resist the terrifying residual power on their own.

In a way, also forming a protective layer that he had to sneak through to get to the twenty demon beasts who were his primary target.

Luckily, the opportunity he had waited for, a time when the three strongest demon beasts attack at the same time, wasn't just because he wanted to attack when the three were at their weakest, but also because the other demon beasts would be in an exhausted state after having to resist the residual power from the attack.

Maybe the demon beasts capable of wielding power comparable to the Star Creation Realm fared fine in the face of this kind of power working together, but the weaker demon beasts didn't hold up well and were rendered completely helpless as they were in a state of exhaustion when he passed by them. Having little to no time to keep an eye on their surroundings.

Not to mention, given that these demon beasts were the only ones around in the first place, they wouldn't normally pay too much attention to their surroundings. Presenting a perfect chance for him to slip past them.

The only real thing that could give him away being if he used his divine sense ahead of time and ended up alerting these weaker demon beasts to his presence.

Still, he had to make use of his divine sense to assess the twenty demon beasts that he intended on killing in a single strike before they could respond, so, as he got within distance and saw the demon beasts that looked like small stars from afar, he directly released his divine sense towards them. Hoping silently that the formation spirit would lend him a hand and assist in distracting these demon beasts like it had told him it would do and buy him a bit more time-

And as if the release of his divine sense was a signal, the massive star at the center began shaking gently as a small crack suddenly emerged. Drawing the attention of all the demon beasts who might have paid more attention to his divine sense originally.

Giving him just enough time to assess the strength of these demon beasts without their terrifying attack power in mind… And he soon felt grateful that he did so, as while the physical defense of those seventeen demon beasts with strength reaching the Star Creation Realm could barely be considered comparable to someone who had just reached the Celestial Immortal Realm, the defensive power of the three with power close to the Venerable Realm was comparable to someone in the Land Creation Realm.

In other words, while he wouldn't need much power to take care of the seventeen demon beasts with strength at the Star Creation Realm, the same could not be said for the three with power close to the Venerable Realm, as he needed to dedicate all of his strength to killing them if he wanted a chance to deal with them.

After all, with their strength, if they survived his attack, he would stand little chance in a straight up fight… And with that in mind, he didn't hesitate as he directly made use of the Void Sword Art, combining the Dao of the Sword with the Dao of Space into a terrifying sword intent that melded into the darkness of the space around him before he slashed towards the three strongest demon beasts before they perceived his presence.

The attack itself was silent and didn't leak the slightest bit of power as it swept through the darkness. Invisible to the naked eye as it seemingly swallowed everything it came into contact with-

Still, before the attack reached its target, one of the three demon beasts inevitably sensed the terrifying attack, but it was already far too late at that point, as a tiny portion of the attack had already split off towards the seventeen weaker demon beasts before splitting up once again into seventeen different small swords that silently reached their targets before they could react-

The invisible sword light blending in with the dark space around them descended. Instantly collapsing under the combination of the two Daos to create a terrifying explosion that not only tore apart the unsuspecting demon beasts, but also the space around them.

Leaving only the three strongest demon beasts behind to face the main power of the attack that had now split into three individual attacks, as none of the seventeen demon beasts ended up surviving.

After all, though only a fraction of the attack's power had been dedicated towards them, their physical defense only barely reaching the Celestial Immortal Realm had no way to resist against the terrifying attack, as the sword intent alongside the spatial power hidden within tore apart their body and soul from the inside in an instant. Giving them no way to fight back.

ROOOOOAR-!

Still, because of how the seventeen demon beasts had been closer, their death did given the remaining three demon beasts some time to react, though it was far from long enough to put up any meaningful resistance, as the first of them didn't even get to turn around before the pitch black sword light tore through its body and collapsed it from the inside out. Killing it in an instant.

The second happened to be the demon beasts behind the lightning attack on the formation core earlier, so it was the most exhausted among the three. Even with the time to put up some resistance, it was still rendered helpless in the face of the pitch-black sword light that soon enough tore through its pitiful defense and killed it.

Only the third worried Xuan Hao, as it had the longest to prepare and began putting up a meaningful defense that directly blocked the pitch-black sword light for a few seconds before inevitably being overpowered.

Still, though the sword light managed to get through, Xuan Hao wasn't the least bit happy, as fear washed over him. Clearly seeing how the demon beasts avoid death by sacrificing over half of its body.

In other words, it managed to successfully survive, a worst-case scenario considering that he stood no chance in case the demon beast ended up attacking him-

For this reason alone, he didn't hesitate for even a second as he rushed towards the already exhausted demon beast on the brink of death to finish it off.

No matter what, he couldn't allow it to attack him, as even a single exhausted attack would be far too much for him to handle having barely reached the Early Stage of the Land Creation Realm.

Roooar!

Seemingly understanding this as well, the demon beast didn't waste any time tending to its injuries, as it began moving one of its intact claws down towards him in a motion that caused a shiver to run down Xuan Hao's spine.

Understanding that the power within those claws wasn't something he could allow to hit him…
