Lynn took a deep breath, tilted his head back, and closed his eyes. A faint glimmer seemed to shimmer at the corners of them.

“You don’t have to explain… I know you must feel the same way deep down. After all, I did something so terrible to all of you. Even the best of friends shouldn’t be expected to forgive that, should they…”

No matter how you looked at it, he deserved at least three years in prison, with the death penalty as the bare minimum.

He tilted his head back and opened his eyes, gazing blankly at the distant ceiling as he said:

“All I can say is that I don’t know what’s gotten into me. My mind is a complete mess. Maybe… maybe I really am just terrified. The moment I think about Hell’s judgment, which is coming in just two days, I feel like I’m going to die. I’ve never wanted everyone to worry, but I really can’t think of anything… If it really wants to kill me…”

“What could I possibly do about it…?”

The Colossus’s Brain slowly turned her head, her expression complicated, and looked at his face.

She watched his blank expression as his genuine feelings spilled out.

She still felt… there was a good chance he was putting on an act. But the look in his eyes seemed to be telling her that he… was truly afraid.

Just as everyone had a vulnerable side, even if they never let it show, keeping it all suppressed deep inside…

Lynn took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and said quietly:

“Of course, I’m not trying to complain to you. No matter how you look at it, these are consequences I brought on myself, and they have nothing to do with you. If I hadn’t done what I did back then, Hell might never have noticed a lowly mortal like me…”

“It just gets harder and harder to bear the more I think about it.”

“Because I promised you, and I promised the Matriarch and Big Brother Titan and the others, that if I could, I would lift the curse imposed on you, and I would take you all away from this Hell! I’d only just given you a proper promise… and now I’m suddenly being told I might not be able to keep it…”

The Colossus’s Brain trembled faintly.

She instinctively tightened her grip on the sword hilt.

Her lips pressed together slightly.

Lynn sniffed, his nose stinging, and looked toward the silver-haired girl across from him, who had her head lowered. He said softly:

“Maybe that’s why my mind has been such a mess… Big Brother Aiwen and the others fell here three thousand years ago. They’ve long since adapted to Hell, so even if I really do die, they still have other good friends, and lives and purposes they can somehow carry on with. But you…”

“I really can’t bear to leave you…”

“Because I was the one who forcibly brought you back from the border of Hell. I saw with my own eyes as Hell cursed you, but it wasn’t until yesterday that I learned how terribly painful that curse could be for you. And even so, you still stubbornly believed my nonsense, believing that I could definitely take you away from this Hell…”

“Out of everyone, you’re the one I feel most sorry for…”

Listening to his heartfelt words, the Colossus’s Brain pressed her lips together and turned away.

“Don’t say any more…”

But Lynn only shook his head, his voice tinged with bitterness.

“Everything I said is true… Because I’m also part of the Colossus. We share a bond in our blood that runs deeper than anyone else’s. I don’t know if you’ve truly accepted me, but at least in my heart, you and Zuo Zuo are the only two people in this Hell who are truly as close to me as flesh and blood.”

There was nothing wrong with that statement. His blood did indeed come from the Colossus, and as the King and Queen of the Colossus, they were naturally his blood relatives.

The Colossus’s Brain stood there, stunned, unable to say a word.

He raised his head, took a deep breath, and said quietly:

“That’s why I wanted to do more for you in these last two days. I don’t know if it’ll help, but I’ve been thinking that if I could truly teach you how to live, and help you stop constantly dwelling on the burdens you carry as a god… then maybe you could temporarily forget the pain caused by the curse and live a little better…”

She stood there, stunned, gazing at the expression on Lynn’s face, her mind in turmoil.

She remembered that Sir Aiwen had said something similar to him last night.

People had to find joy even in hardship, after all.

“If you’re always carrying the burden of being a god, always making yourself think about it, then no matter how strong your will is, one day you’ll drive yourself mad… So since you’ve already fallen, you should try to think of yourself as a person. Learn to feel joy and sorrow, and learn to find little surprises in everyday life…”

“That should help you adapt to this place sooner, and help you temporarily forget the pain and burden brought on by the curse…”

He raised his head with a faint, relieved smile. His eyes slightly damp, he gazed at her and said:

“Just like from last night until now.”

“Without even realizing it, you’ve already started thinking of yourself as an ordinary girl, with feelings of your own, and you’ve temporarily forgotten the torment brought on by that curse…”

“Am I right…?”

A breeze swept in through the window, brushing past her slightly widened eyes and long silver hair.

She stood there, stunned.

Her mind was empty, yet his words echoed in it again and again.

Her thoughts seemed to recall, beyond her control, the anger and complicated feelings she’d shown last night when this guy lay beside her. Back then, she’d been thinking about something as meaningless to a god as whether “this guy might take advantage of me,” and her heart had been pounding. It seemed she’d unconsciously forgotten the ceaseless torment brought on by the curse.

And then there was this morning, when she woke up.

She’d been entirely focused on thinking, “I have to kill him,” and had completely forgotten the suffering she was enduring.

She hadn’t even realized it herself…

At some point…

It was as if she really had become an ordinary girl with feelings of her own… an utterly ordinary, independent individual…

She stared at Lynn, moved her lips, and said:

“So you did those things because…”
