Because even if she knew that perhaps that guy truly didn't care about her form.

She still couldn't get past her own hurdle.

Precisely because they were such good friends, she cared even more about how she appeared in his eyes.

【Don't say those strange things anymore. The main reason I came this time is to thank you. Although I could have endured that backlash myself, it would only have been slightly more painful for a longer period. What you did wasn't really necessary, and you foolishly nearly lost your own life because of it. But in the end, I still had to come and express my gratitude.】

That quill wrote on the paper in front of him.

【But gratitude is gratitude. It doesn't mean the quill will actually develop any strange affection toward you. So if you're harboring thoughts of trying to win me over and take me into your possession, the quill advises you to save yourself the trouble. There's no way you'll succeed!】

【So I mainly just came to casually check on you and offer a brief greeting. From now on, we're even. However, if you want to come by in your cat form to nibble on my cat food, I would welcome that as well. But it's limited to that and nothing more. Understood?】

She wrote those words with a very calm stroke.

Then she put away her ink bottle, rolled up the parchment, tied it behind the quill, and hopped toward the edge of the desk.

"So, goodbye then, you creature I don't know whether to call a cat or a human!"

Then like a carefree wanderer.

That strange sensation in Lynn's hand faded away. The quill, carrying the parchment scroll on her back, strode proudly like a loli and hopped onto the windowsill.

Was she really just going to leave like that?

Perhaps she truly cared deeply in her heart.

Yet she didn't want to drag him into this vortex of struggling against hell, which was why she wrote such heartless words.

It should be considered quite heartless, shouldn't it?

At least he didn't really know...

"So that's why you secretly ran to my corpse that day and quietly cried?"

Lynn sat there smiling, gazing at the quill that had already hopped onto the windowsill.

A gentle breeze blew in from outside the window.

Brushing past her slender strokes.

She stood there frozen, for a moment unable to utter a single word. She just stood there blankly, listening to the soft voice coming from behind her.

Lynn stood up, leaned against the windowsill, raised his head to look at the dark sky outside, and said:

"No need to hide it from me. I know. Even though I was just about to die back then, I could still hear those voices around me and see those words of reluctance to part with me."

"So you didn't really come to say goodbye to me, then quietly hide yourself away in some place no one could find, did you?"

He gazed into the distance, a faint smile hanging on his face.

The breeze blew gently.

Just as he had understood from the moment he woke up, like the sobbing sound he heard by his ear on that hazy night,

like a stroke of a pen that had once been pressed hard beside him, writing those words.

You will never die...

"So it was you who saved me."

Lynn turned his head, looking at the quill on the windowsill beside him, and said softly:

"Because under those circumstances, when my Matriarch and Sir Aiwen were both helpless, if there was anyone in this Nightfall City who could truly bring me back to life under those conditions, it could only be you. Quill, am I right?"

She stared blankly ahead.

Just like the bustling traffic outside the window, those faint and indistinct voices of the crowd, still thriving and prosperous in this mysterious world.

She fell silent, then fiercely shook her plume feathers again, carrying her parchment scroll on her back, and spoke up:

"Hmph!"

She expressed disdain.

Implying that saving him was merely something the almighty quill casually dashed off.

So he shouldn't think this actually meant anything. It was just that the quill didn't want to watch him die so meaninglessly. It was merely something done out of the quill's kind heart!

"I'm leaving! And don't try to find me. If you die from the backlash within three days, that has absolutely nothing to do with the quill. Take care of yourself! Hmph!"

The quill carried the parchment on her back, proudly moving forward, about to leap down from the windowsill.

About to embark on her own solitary journey.

Lynn was still smiling as he gazed into the distance, resting his chin on his hand, and said:

"It must cost a great price, wouldn't it?"

The quill paused.

"Because you didn't die from ordinary severe injuries, but from nearly collapsing due to the Gaze of hell. So saving the life of someone like that must come at a great cost as well, right?"

He reached out his hand, touching the wind outside the window.

Wisp after wisp of black mist flowed slowly through his fingers in the breeze, slipping away like fine sand.

Like some kind of destined fate.

His eyes flickered slightly, then he turned his head and smiled at the quill beside him.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

That quill raised its strokes proudly.

"That's it then. Don't try to come find me again. The quill doesn't really welcome creatures like humans. So don't come asking for help if you run into any trouble either. I'm off! Goodbye. No, never see you again!"

"Hmph!"

After saying that, she gave Lynn no more chance to speak. She leaped up, as if riding the wind, and drifted away with the breeze.

And some kind of writhing, flowing shadow seemed to quietly depart from his room at that moment. Only faintly could one glimpse a pair of eyes lingering on him before forever vanishing into the pitch-black night curtain.

Just like some things that will never truly be told to you, and will never truly be admitted.

Just like those things quietly done for your sake.

Just a single glance at you is already enough to set one's heart at ease.

Lynn leaned against the windowsill, raised his head, and gazed into the distance, just like what he had seen on his panel the moment he first opened his eyes, that quietly made contract with him...

At some point, he opened his panel and once again looked at that delicate stroke in the status bar.

【Contract of Fate】: If one day you truly meet your death in the most genuine sense, the contract will be triggered. Another person will come to face that inescapable fate in your place. You will be granted a second chance at life, but you will also forget all karma and connection with that person, unto eternity.

A fierce gale howled in.

Lynn raised his head, facing the fierce wind as he waved his hand and shouted loudly in that direction:

"Hey!! I'll still come to your place for a meal tomorrow!! Don't actually leave!! Even if you do leave!! At least prepare tomorrow's breakfast for me first!!"

"I'm not a good person, you know! If I don't see you tomorrow, I'll expose all your secrets to—"

Bang—

A stone thrown in utter fury came flying from some mysterious corner in the distance before he could even finish his sentence, directly knocking him down from the fifth floor.

Clearly, this was retaliation for his atrocious behavior!

And of course, no one saw any quill hiding in the corner watching him. Naturally, no one would know the identity of the one who committed the dark deed and the crime of dropping stones on people.

Yes, no one.
