Chapter 789: Earth, the Changed Bai Yi

  • Next Chapter

"This time, you'll be facing even more powerful evil entities and monsters than before. You've been training for over a month now, and this is the assessment you must pass to become a Demon Hunter. Do you have confidence?"

Bai Yi gasped heavily, gripping his sword hilt tightly, and gritted his teeth:

"Don't worry! I can definitely do it this time! Bring it on!"

He instinctively tightened his grip on a silver bracelet bound to his palm. If one looked closely, inside a small glass vial locked within the bracelet, one could faintly make out some shredded bits of flesh and blood tissue.

And strangely enough.

Those bits of flesh seemed to still be squirming slightly.

If Lynn were here, he would have clearly sensed that the squirming flesh was part of the tissue from the little finger he had chopped off when he sent Bai Yi back to Earth.

"Alright! Test begins. Bai Yi, good luck."

With that female voice.

The next moment.

The runes across the entire Magic Circle slowly illuminated with a bloody glow, and the surrounding temperature seemed to plummet by over ten degrees in an instant, turning extremely eerie and sinister.

Even though they were underground, gusts of icy wind seemed to drift through the air.

Bai Yi focused with all his might, gritting his teeth, beads of cold sweat trickling down his forehead one by one, every muscle in his body taut, constantly alert to whatever might happen around him.

It had already been a long time.

It had been over a month since he had last summoned Big Brother.

After experiencing so many bizarre incidents and personally visiting hell once, his fate had already undergone a tremendous transformation. If he hadn't gone through those experiences, hadn't encountered that Big Brother from hell, he might still be like other kids his age, sleeping in class and playing games every day.

Occasionally getting a girlfriend and having some fun, that might have been his life forever.

But now.

Everything was different.

Having touched a world ordinary people could never access, he was destined to say goodbye to a normal life.

So after leaving the county town of Big Brother's homeland, he quickly encountered the Supernatural Administration team. After being investigated and monitored for another period, he proactively requested to join the Supernatural Administration and become a Demon Hunter.

Because the world was changing.

The cold wind howled past his hair. In an instant, within the shadows behind him, a pair of blood-red eyes flashed and vanished, and with a shrieking howl like an Evil Ghost, a twisted, pale, contorted humanoid figure lunged at him, its reeking fangs radiating an utterly terrifying aura.

His eyes flickered. He bit down hard, whirled around, and swept his sword out in a horizontal slash.

And more and more supernatural incidents were occurring.

Continuously telling him that this world was growing worse and worse.

Squelch—

He sliced the twisted humanoid in half at the waist with a single stroke. Gritting his teeth, he whipped his head around. Within the surrounding darkness, pair after pair of blood-red eyes lit up, and one twisted monster after another was summoned into the Main Hall by the Magic Circle.

"Amitabha Buddha, Boundless Celestial Venerable, God the Holy Mother, Big Brother Lynn, please bless me to pass this test smoothly! Mumu-mimihong! I'll burn incense for every one of you when I get back! (trembling)"

He fought to suppress his shaking.

Gritted his teeth again.

And charged straight at those monsters with vigorous strides.

Although he still found it very difficult in many situations to overcome his terror of evil spirits and ghouls, now that he knew this world still had family and a homeland that Big Brother would surely protect...

Then even the most cowardly person would make a silent vow in their heart.

So if Big Brother truly couldn't descend upon this land for long periods, then as Big Brother's sworn little brother, or perhaps his representative, guarding this homeland for him should be only natural.

Squelch—

Amidst his roars, the sharp silver sword cut down one twisted humanoid after another as they came surging in.

And every humanoid slain dissolved into dust in the breeze, but the monsters summoned by that Magic Circle only grew more numerous. Standing at the observation platform and looking out, one could already see densely packed, shrieking Evil Ghosts from every direction.

Behind the hidden glass window, the Spiritual Medium watched the scene with a grave expression, glancing at the watch on her wrist, her hand clenching tight.

"Do you think that kid can pass this trial, Celestial Master?"

Beside her, a middle-aged man with graying hair dressed in Daoist robes stood with his hands clasped behind his back, his gaze also fixed on the chaotic scene of demons running rampant in the hall below.

"He's no ordinary one. Shouldn't be a problem."

"Or rather, if what he said is true, that his Big Brother from hell once performed surgery on him... then that surgery seems to have fundamentally changed his Constitution. An extremely evil and terrifying change..."

The Spiritual Medium turned her head slightly, her eyes reflecting his increasingly solemn expression.

Yes.

Though she didn't know exactly what was going on, his body had indeed undergone some supernatural changes.

In plain terms, from a few months ago up until now, every time they monitored him, they could observe phenomena that couldn't be explained by science at all.

For instance.

Half a day ago, his [heart] had declared war on those two innocent [lungs] for the 125th time.

His intestines tried to strangle his bladder.

His stomach and liver formed an offensive-defensive alliance, attempting to take out his only remaining, helplessly isolated kidney.

And the kidney that had lost its other half tearfully confided in his other half-lost pair of balls, briefly forming a widowed alliance to jointly resist the encroaching pressure from the stomach and liver.

His brain, meanwhile, was free of desires, transcending the mortal realm, showing no activity at all.

Etc.

She closed her eyes, carefully recalling this period of worldview-shattering observations, feeling like she had gotten to know the world all over again.

And up until now, with fierce battles already raging inside his body, as the owner of this body, only Bai Yi himself remained blissfully unaware, knowing nothing at all.

"Things can't go on like this..."

The Spiritual Medium lowered her eyelashes, looking somewhat despondent, head bowed, clutching a slip of paper in her hand, her palm trembling slightly.

The Celestial Master took a deep breath, closed his eyes, stood with his hands behind his back, and said:

"Yeah..."

"With one-to-twenty-one odds betting on his heart winning, how could it be so useless? I've already lost tens of thousands betting on it..."

The Spiritual Medium clutched the betting slip in her hand, squeezing it slightly, pursing her lips, and after a moment of silence, said:

"I... feel the same."

"I bet on his kidney five times and lost five times. If they don't win at least once, my monthly allowance is going to be completely gone... I can't accept it..."

She clenched her hand tightly.

The breeze blew softly past the two High-ranking Officials standing silently at the observation platform.

The cold wind was desolate.

It whipped their garments and also stirred their despondent hearts that had never won a single opening bet.

...

PS: There will be a transition period for a while, not too fast, not too slow. Hmm... while I'm at it, let me do a little survey... that is... can everyone accept "knives"? (✪ω✪) Of course, just casually testing the waters, no other meaning, don't worry everyone.
