Cooking Gourmet Meals in the Apocalypse
Chapter 83 - 85: A Little Trouble
Chapter 83: Chapter 85: A Little Trouble
Seeing that the other party already knew their identities, Captain Lu stepped forward, hoping to keep them from focusing on Chen Xing. "I can tell you what happened on the island!"
He felt that Chen Xing stood out too much; attracting attention would only cause trouble for her.
The man leading the United States’ team was middle-aged and of average height, with sharp eyebrows and a high-bridged nose. His body was a mass of powerful, well-defined muscle.
He took a step forward, his gaze sweeping past Chen Xing and the others before landing on Captain Lu. "Then let’s hear it." It was hard to tell if he was genuinely curious or just placating him.
Captain Lu gave a rough account of how Liang Yuncheng had killed Captain Rick. "Liang Yuncheng must still be on the island. As for the grudge between your country and the Military Department, that has nothing to do with us!"
Wilson was an Admiral. He had fought in countless wars and held other nations in contempt. The United States was the world’s most powerful country and was used to calling the shots. "We’ll settle our score with the Military Department in due time. But you claim you were also here on a mission. My country lost a whole shipload of soldiers and our submarine was destroyed. It’s only natural that we settle this score with you, the ones who survived! Who’s to say this Liang Yuncheng you’re talking about is even real?"
Captain Lu never expected them to accept the facts peacefully. "We’ve told you the truth. If you intend to use your numbers to be unreasonable and brutish, then you should know we’re not the type to back down from a fight!"
Wilson was shocked that a mere soldier, abandoned by the Military Department, would speak to him with such a tone. Displeasure flared on his arrogant face. "Us, unreasonable? Ridiculous! Our entire team died on this island, and your team are the only ones left alive. How do you expect us to believe a word you say?"
Captain Lu laughed, a hint of resignation on his tough-as-nails face. "I’m not asking you to believe me. I’m just telling you the facts so you aren’t kept in the dark. Whether or not you choose to believe it is your problem!"
When it came to presence, he refused to be outdone.
His fighting spirit only rose higher when faced with a strong opponent.
Admiral Wilson: "..."
’This is the first time I’ve been treated with such disrespect!’
’Even the Great Commander of the United States has to be cordial with me.’
’And this little captain, stripped of his post, dares to talk to me like that?’
The fury rising on his face became impossible to control. "The way I see it, you from Huaxia Country used this trade as a pretext to launch a sneak attack on the United States! I will see this matter investigated to the end!"
As he spoke, he flicked his eyes, and the naval soldiers behind him all surged to the front.
Captain Lu did a quick headcount. There were at least two hundred of them.
They had only 36 people, 37 including Chen Xing. The disparity in numbers was enormous.
If a fight broke out, they would be at a huge disadvantage.
But they absolutely couldn’t lose when it came to morale!
"If you insist on thinking that way, there’s nothing we can do about it!" Captain Lu’s expression seemed nonchalant, but the hands behind his back were already gathering his superpower.
Wilson grew even more incensed at his cavalier attitude.
This wasn’t just disrespect toward him; it was disrespect toward the great United States.
"Captain Lu, you will pay the price for your insolence!" No longer controlling his temper, the furious Wilson roared, leveling baseless accusations at Captain Lu. "You plotted against our Captain Rick and our one hundred and ten naval personnel! We are placing you—all of you—under immediate arrest!"
With that, he took a step back.
Seeing a fight was imminent, Chen Xing, along with Xiao Wu and the others, took a step forward, showing their resolve to follow Captain Lu to the death.
When Wilson saw he hadn’t intimidated them, his expression soured further. "Since you insist on resisting, we won’t hold back!"
’The more they resist, the better!’
’I have over two hundred men here, all of them soldiers augmented with superpowers. We’ll win this fight no matter what.’
However, before he could make his move, he heard the sound of approaching vehicles and had to hold back for the moment.
Less than half a minute later, several military trucks pulled to a stop before the fog-shrouded teams.
Wilson had a bad feeling.
A veil of resentment fell over his face, his anger not having subsided in the slightest.
Chen Xing: "..."
Captain Lu: "..."
’The Song Family of Song Yiguo!?’
The trucks stopped, and Vice General Du’s dashing figure emerged from the dense fog.
With a swift and upright bearing, he walked straight to Chen Xing without a hint of hesitation, gave her an extremely polite nod, and then, looking at Wilson, asked her, "Trouble?"
"A small one," Chen Xing said lightly.
Her casual "a small one" was incredibly insulting.
’What?’
’Me, the great Admiral Wilson, am nothing but a "small" problem in her eyes?’
But... he didn’t dare fly into a rage in front of the Song Family.
Wilson had heard of the Song Family.
After the apocalypse began, several major powers had risen quickly in Huaxia, and the most prominent among them was the Song Family.
Their influence was second to none, with their reach extending into countries all over the world. Even the Great Commander of the United States had to show the Song Family a certain degree of deference.
"Hello... I am Admiral Wilson of the United States. I’ve come to the North Sea because..." He gave a skewed account of how his team had died in the North Sea. "...we suspect Captain Lu murdered them to cover his tracks. We hope the Song Family can give our Great Commander an explanation!"
As an admiral, having to speak so deferentially to a young upstart like Vice General Du left a sour taste in his mouth.
But he was on their turf, and they had the numbers, so he had no choice but to swallow his pride.
A hint of doubt crossed Vice General Du’s impossibly handsome face. "As far as I know, Captain Lu was deliberately set up for this mission. He’s lucky to have survived at all. How could he possibly have planned everything, as you claim, Admiral?"
"This..." Wilson was slightly taken aback, surprised that Vice General Du knew some of the inside details. "That’s his story. But it is a fact that our country lost a submarine and over a hundred crew members! Furthermore... the deal fell through, and the nightingale escaped from them... Song Family..."
"Admiral, I think you’ve misunderstood why I’m here." No longer interested in listening to his drivel, Vice General Du cut him off. "I heard Captain Lu was framed and came to help him. I’m not here to mediate the dispute with your country! Your dealings and disagreements with the Military Department are for the two of you to resolve."
Wilson: "..." His expression was quite grim.
"So, you’re saying that you’re going to protect him regardless of whether he had anything to do with Captain Rick’s death, is that right?" Even an idiot could see that Vice General Du was taking Captain Lu’s side.
"If the Admiral insists on interpreting it that way, so be it. I’m just following procedure, doing as my superiors have instructed. I ask for your understanding, Admiral." He was so humble and polite that it was impossible to find fault.
Wilson was filled with a bellyful of rage, but he had no way to vent it.
The Song Family had arrived in several trucks. And while only Vice General Du had disembarked, Wilson, as a military man, had a good idea of how many soldiers those trucks could be carrying.
"In that case, I won’t make things difficult for you," Wilson said in a compromising tone. "However, I’m afraid the friendly relations between my country and the Song Family can no longer be maintained!"
