Chapter 169: Chapter 166: The Unkillable Cockroach

Hao Wenli kept staring out the car window in fear.

She saw that the thin fog seemed to be drifting along, following the car.

It wasn’t obvious, but it was definitely following them.

Yu Heng hadn’t noticed, but he too found it strange.

The fog didn’t look thick, but it was still impossible to see what was around them, making it rather unnerving.

Chen Xing had also noticed something was wrong.

Her eyesight was better than the average person’s, and she could clearly see the fog moving.

It was like a graceful, flowing current, slowly following them.

She just didn’t understand. ’Can fog have abilities, too?’

’If so, it’s going to be even harder for humanity to survive.’

She increased her speed slightly but didn’t dare go too fast.

Going too fast made it difficult to react to danger.

After driving through the fog for half an hour, it hadn’t dissipated in the slightest. In fact, it was growing even thicker.

CLUNK, CLUNK, RUMBLE-RUMBLE, CLUNK, CLUNK, RUMBLE-RUMBLE... The sound repeated again and again.

Chen Xing frowned.

’It looks like that giant snail monster I kicked away is back.’

Sure enough, through the fog, Chen Xing spotted the giant snail monster in the distance.

Its hard shell had two dents, which was why the sound of its rolling was uneven. Naturally, its speed was also much slower.

’It’s like a cockroach you just can’t kill!’

Chen Xing had no choice but to get out of her vehicle, standing in the thick of the fog.

She stood tall, looking utterly fearless.

As the giant snail monster rolled toward her, she didn’t send it flying with a kick this time.

Instead, she used her arm strength to stop it in its tracks.

The giant snail monster came to a halt. Its extended head looked like an amorphous blob of mud, and foul slime was everywhere.

It had no distinct facial features; it just kept extending its head toward Chen Xing’s body.

A corner of Chen Xing’s clothing was splattered with the slime.

Instantly, as if corroded, a small patch of the fabric dissolved.

Damn!

Chen Xing didn’t dare let her guard down again.

She backed away, putting a safe distance between herself and the giant snail monster.

But the creature seemed to know she was wary of the slime, and it stuck out its head and began to shake it wildly.

Slime splattered everywhere.

Unsurprisingly, everything the slime touched was corroded.

Fortunately, Chen Xing had been worried about her RV’s safety and had kept her distance from it.

She carefully dodged the disgusting slime herself.

Seeing Chen Xing continually dodge, the giant snail monster grew enraged and started flinging slime directly at her.

In that opening, Chen Xing had already noticed a pattern: after each wave of slime, the snail monster would retract its head into its shell, wait a few seconds, then pop out to start slinging again.

The next time the snail monster retracted and then extended its head, Chen Xing’s long blade was already waiting. It plunged into the creature’s gooey head.

Chen Xing had thought her blade would be corroded as well, but thankfully, it slid smoothly into the monster’s head. She successfully extracted the Crystal Core from its brain.

After Chen Xing stored the Crystal Core, the small convoy set off once more.

The fog seemed to have lessened somewhat, but it hadn’t cleared completely.

According to Yu Hang, there was another bridge on the other side.

That bridge was intact.

So they headed for that bridge.

The fog, which they had thought would not dissipate so easily, quietly vanished before they reached the other bridge.

They crossed the large bridge without encountering any more monsters.

For the rest of the day, until nightfall, their journey was relatively peaceful, aside from a few stretches of road that were difficult to navigate.

Just before dark, they stopped in front of a farmhouse-style restaurant on the roadside.

The farmhouse restaurant wasn’t large; it was just a private home that had been converted into a small eatery.

There were countless restaurants like this along the road.

Of course, without exception, they were all dilapidated, and anything useful inside had been picked clean.

Because the RV was too conspicuous, Chen Xing deliberately parked it in the restaurant’s backyard.

That way, it wouldn’t be spotted even if another convoy passed by.

Hao Wenli and Yu Heng, however, saw that the backyard connected to the mountainside and, fearing it wasn’t safe, parked their car right out in the open on the roadside.

The apocalypse had been going on for so long that even those who once fantasized about the world returning to normal had given up hope.

Therefore... the crime rate was many times higher.

At this point, robbery was hardly a big deal.

’If you park an RV on the side of the road, how could you not expect people to get ideas?’

Sure enough, just as she lay down after dinner, Chen Xing heard the sound of approaching vehicles.

Meanwhile, in the front yard, an oblivious Hao Wenli and Yu Heng were engaged in some... "vigorous exercise" inside their vehicle.

The RV was rocking rhythmically.

They didn’t notice a thing until the vehicles drew near.

Hastily pulling up his pants, Yu Heng got out of the car. Before he could see anything, he felt a red dot on his forehead.

He knew it meant his head would be blown open if he so much as moved.

"Let’s talk this out!" The annoyance of being interrupted vanished instantly, replaced by an obsequious smile. "Brother... let’s just talk. Please, don’t do anything rash!"

"My, my... and a handsome one at that," a syrupy, flirtatious voice called out from one of the vehicles. "What a pity... you seem to be missing a pretty girl!"

Hearing this, Yu Heng immediately flashed a gentle smile. "Don’t you worry, Miss, we have a pretty lady right here..." With that, he turned and shouted toward Hao Wenli in the car, "Get out here!"

Hao Wenli: "..."

’She was furious.’

’This son of a bitch! He won’t even protect his own woman? He’s just going to serve me up on a platter?’

’What a fucking bastard!’

’And she wasn’t even dressed yet!’

She had no choice but to quickly pull on her long dress and run to the door of the vehicle.

When she appeared, the look of shyness and fear on her face only enhanced her beauty, giving her an aura that made one want to pull her into an embrace.

"Ooh... Brother Jin, this girl is a real looker!" the voice said, now laced with obvious jealousy.

Hao Wenli didn’t detect the jealousy, only hearing the praise. She lowered her head slightly, looking exceedingly delicate. "Please, don’t make things difficult for us. We’re just passing through and mean no harm!"

"Heh..." The girl in the car gave a scornful laugh as she pushed open the door and stepped out. "I just *love* people who mean no harm!"

The girl looked to be only seventeen or eighteen, with small, delicate features and a petite frame.

"Wow, what a cute little sister!" Hao Wenli immediately gushed, trying to be friendly.

But her eyes held a hint of derision for the still-immature girl.

’Her, with that tiny body, daring to compare herself to a curvy beauty like me? Not even close!’

The moment she heard those two words, "little sister," Li Tong’s expression hardened.

An undisguised viciousness in her eyes shot straight toward Hao Wenli.

Hao Wenli finally sensed that something was wrong.

’I can’t afford to provoke this girl!’

But it was clearly too late, and she still had no idea what she’d done wrong.

So, foolishly, she tried to flatter her again. "Little sister, you’re so cute! How old are you?"

The words were barely out of her mouth when Li Tong, like an enraged lioness, raised the long whip in her hand and lashed out at Hao Wenli.
