Chapter 168 - 165: Giant River Snail Monster
Chapter 168: Chapter 165: Giant River Snail Monster
Hao Wenli was terrified and grabbed onto Yu Heng’s clothes, trying to hide behind him.
But he just turned, jumped into his vehicle,
and sped away before Hao Wenli could even react.
Hao Wenli was speechless. ’What the hell kind of asshole is this?’
’Even Xiao Nan is more reliable than him!’
The big-mouthed fish monster, however, was attracted to the moving vehicle and went bounding after it.
Worried that Yu Heng might try something with 00002, Chen Xing immediately turned and ran back.
Just then, a monstrous, sharp claw emerged from the thick fog, smashing down toward her head. She sidestepped, dodging the attack.
’Judging by its hardness, it looks like a crab’s leg.’
’But... if the leg is this big, I can only imagine the size of the crab itself.’
When Chen Xing looked up, she saw the crab monster was as tall as an RV.
On the other end, Meng Hu reported no bad news, so Chen Xing knew Yu Heng hadn’t developed any greedy ideas about her RV. She stopped worrying about him and focused on dealing with the crab monster.
The crab monster had eight long, pointed legs, which were lined with countless small barbs.
They might have been small barbs to the monster, but to a human, they were as deadly as knives.
Chen Xing weaved between the sharp legs, looking for a chance to break one with her knife.
But the leg was too tough; she couldn’t even leave a scratch.
Hao Wenli, her face a mask of terror, didn’t even have the sense to get out of the way. The sharp leg nearly struck her several times, and she had already gotten several cuts from the barbs.
"Get the hell out of the way!" Chen Xing was furious.
’This thing doesn’t seem to have any weaknesses. I can’t kill it with brute force. And Hao Wenli is just getting in the way.’
As if snapping out of a trance, Hao Wenli took to her heels and ran.
As soon as Hao Wenli was gone, Chen Xing prepared to try various methods to kill the beast.
But then, another strange sound came from the other side of the broken bridge.
Judging by the noise, it was also massive; the entire bridge began to sway.
’This bridge isn’t stable!’
Chen Xing immediately turned and ran back a short distance before stopping again.
She couldn’t possibly lead the monster toward the RV and let it be destroyed.
The crab monster was too large. If it got over there, the RV would definitely be wrecked.
But of course, Hao Wenli had run to the RV and was now banging on the door, screaming for help.
00002, following Chen Xing’s orders, refused to open the door for anyone.
So Hao Wenli only banged and shouted more frantically.
As a result, the monster that had come up from the broken bridge was drawn by the noise. It rolled past Chen Xing like a giant wheel, heading straight for the RV.
Chen Xing was speechless.
’Did I see that right?’
’That monster... is a giant snail, isn’t it?’
The thought of such a massive monster rolling over and potentially destroying her RV spurred her into action. Ignoring the crab monster, she bounded toward the RV in a few quick leaps.
Fortunately, she was faster than the snail monster. While it was still a good distance from the vehicle, Chen Xing planted her feet, and a heavy iron wall materialized before her.
With a deafening CRASH, the impact sent Chen Xing staggering back several steps. Luckily, there was still some distance between her and the RV.
The heavy iron wall was now completely caved in.
She didn’t dare hesitate, hurling the massive iron wall at the distant crab monster.
Without missing a beat, she rushed toward the toppled snail monster and delivered a vicious kick.
The kick was so powerful that the snail monster was sent flying out of sight before it could even poke its head out of its shell.
The crab monster in the distance didn’t fare any better. The massive iron wall had smashed into it, caving in its head, and it stopped moving entirely.
A glistening Crystal Core fell to the side.
Chen Xing was speechless. ’I should’ve just attacked its upper body from the start.’
She picked up the Crystal Core, just as she heard the sound of an engine.
"Are you guys okay?" Yu Heng had returned, driving his slightly dented RV. He poked his head out of the driver’s seat and said with shameless bravado, "I risked my life to lead that huge monster away!"
’Bullshit!’
Hao Wenli gritted her teeth in anger, but she didn’t say anything.
’I get it now,’ she thought. ’There’s no way Chen Xing will take me in.’
’Chen Xing might not kill me, but she’ll never let me join her group. The best I can do is shamelessly tag along.’
’I’m sure that if Yu Heng hadn’t come back, I’d have to find my own vehicle to follow Chen Xing.’
’Finding a car in this world isn’t hard; finding gasoline is.’
’So... no matter what an asshole Yu Heng is, I have to stick with him.’
’At least, I have to stick with him until I can find my own car and gas.’
"That monster was relentlessly chasing me! Look what it did to the back of my RV. But it’s fine... I finally managed to shake it off!" How could Yu Heng have known the monster would actually follow him?
Luckily, he was clever enough to lure that fish monster onto another bridge and knock it into the river. Otherwise, he’d still be running for his life.
Chen Xing was indifferent to his return.
As long as he wasn’t a threat, she could let him live. After all... he might have a number tag on him.
’And it would be even better if he took Hao Wenli off my hands.’
"You’re so amazing!" For the sake of a ride, Hao Wenli offered a disingenuous compliment. "It’s a good thing you led one away. We ran into a monster here, too!"
She had only seen the crab monster. Due to the fog, she hadn’t seen the snail monster, only heard a series of loud CLANGS and BANGS.
Since she couldn’t see the other monster, she just assumed Chen Xing had taken care of it.
Chen Xing didn’t want to waste any more time here, and she certainly didn’t want to listen to these two spout nonsense. She turned and got back in her RV.
Seeing her get into the vehicle, Hao Wenli panicked and immediately scrambled into Yu Heng’s RV.
The vehicles had barely started moving when they heard a RUMBLING sound.
Chen Xing’s eyes were sharp. Up ahead, where the fog had thinned considerably, she saw the snail monster she’d kicked away rolling toward them again.
This time, its rolling wasn’t as smooth. With every rotation, it LURCHED heavily.
’My kick must have dented it.’
Seeing the monster aiming for her RV, Chen Xing had no choice but to slam on the brakes and jump out.
She delivered another kick to the snail monster as it reached her.
Just then, Yu Heng and Hao Wenli’s RV pulled up, just in time to witness the scene.
The color drained from Yu Heng’s face.
It felt like he could hear his own heart shattering into a million pieces.
He hadn’t gotten a clear look earlier at how far Chen Xing had kicked the monster.
But it was a massive creature; just kicking it out of immediate danger was already incredibly badass.
"Has Chen Xing always been this strong?" For once, Yu Heng spoke to Hao Wenli in a civil tone.
"She’s always been really strong!" Hao Wenli believed that complimenting a woman was about her being delicate; calling a woman strong was an insult.
So instead of admitting she didn’t know—since she’d never paid attention to such things—she just agreed.
’It’s not like my mission was to keep track of Chen Xing’s abilities.’
She just knew that Chen Xing was a capable fighter, was very strong, and had managed to escape danger several times.
Any lecherous thoughts Yu Heng had been harboring for Chen Xing were instantly extinguished.
’At least until my own abilities are awakened, I’d better not get any funny ideas.’
Hao Wenli, who had been staring out the window, suddenly asked, "Yu Heng, have you noticed? It feels like this fog is following us."
