Contract Marriage: Enemies With Benefits
Chapter 55: Orchids
"That’s your family, Sienna. How ruthless can you be? For a moment, I started to see you in a new light when you stepped up to take the blame for your family but it looks like I really misjudged your character!"
"If that is all..."
"Wait, don’t you dare hang up!" the man hurriedly said, "When do you intend to file for your divorce?"
Sienna fell silent.
"Between us, there is no need to pretend. You married him because of the inheritance and you are just as unsure and unhappy about your decision..." Seth coldly said.
"That is the reason nobody knows who he is and nobody has ever seen him with you. You are ashamed of your own decision!" the man added.
As she heard the man talking about her ’husband’, Callahan’s face crossed her mind.
"He... is the only good thing that has happened to me in a long time."
Half an hour later, Sienna lay on the bed, wide awake, as she tossed and turned.
After a while, she opened the bedside drawers and retrieved the bunny pouch she had brought with her she moved from her penthouse to Magnolia Crest, "I thought... I could go on for a few more days without you..."
Sighing, she started to open the pouch when a sudden gust of wind came in through the open window, sweeping in the refreshing fragrance of orchids.
Sienna put the bunny pouch back in the drawers and peeked at the orchid yard by the window.
After giving it a thought, she walked out of the Master Bedroom.
"Yes, thank you, Butler. Please handle it carefully," An unfamiliar man stood at the door, holding a black box in his hand.
Once he passed the box to Thomas and left, Sienna walked over to him, "It looks like something important."
"Young Madam, it has your name on the card."
"My name?" Curious, Sienna checked the card before she looked at the box again.
After mulling over it for a bit, Sienna opened the box.
Thomas glanced down at the black box in his hands before turning it over carefully. "It certainly seems that way,Young Madam. There was a card attached to it, and your name is written on it."
"My name?" Sienna’s curiosity sharpened immediately.
Butler Thomas nodded.
"Give it to me."
Thomas handed it over.
Sienna opened the card first. There was no elaborate message, only her name written neatly across the paper.
She frowned faintly before lifting the lid. Instantly, her breath was caught in her throat.
Nestled against the velvet lining was the emerald necklace which was presented as the centerpiece of the charity gala.
For several seconds, she simply stared at it.
The rare emeralds had seemed like a good investment so she had wanted it enough to consider bidding seriously that day, only for Callahan to suddenly join the fun with a bid that had stunned the entire ballroom.
One hundred million. And now that same necklace was sitting in her hands.
After a few seconds, Sienna finally recovered her senses.
"Keep it away carefully," she handed the box back to Thomas before wandering outside to the orchid yard.
She closed the box and carried it with her, but instead of returning to the bedroom, she wandered outside into the orchid yard.
The light fragrance of orchids greeted her the moment she stepped beneath the flowering arches. Her gaze drifted across the sea of orchids as numerous thoughts crossed her mind.
She had just taken a seat on a nearby bench when a familiar voice came from behind her.
"What’s on your mind?"
Sienna tilted her head, only to find Callahan standing behind her.
The man walked around the bench before he took a seat beside her.
"You sent the necklace over?" she asked.
His expression remained perfectly calm, "What about it?"
"Is it meant for me?"
He nodded once, "Unless Mrs. Hawke wants me to try it first."
Sienna gave him a look and then, she shrugged, "You would look good in anything anyway."
A quiet chuckle escaped him, "Does that count as a rare compliment from you?"
"As if you don’t know you are good looking," she rolled her eyes.
Callahan raised a brow, "I am clueless. Why don’t you tell me about how you see me?"
The amusement in his voice made her narrow her eyes, but she let it pass.
After a moment, she picked up a fallen orchid petal between her fingers, "You sounded pretty passionate while bidding for the necklace that day. 100 million was the highest bid of the night so considering that, you must have your reasons for wanting it..."
Sienna paused and then added, "So, don’t just give it away to me now. Moreover, it’s not cheap at all..."
"It was for you."
Her fingers stilled and she turned toward him.
"What?"
His gaze settled on her face, calm and unwavering, "I bought it because you were interested in it."
His words were so straightforward that Sienna didn’t know if he was joking or being serious.
Moreover, she hadn’t seen a single business man who would make a huge deal without considering pros and cons.
Was he going to throw away a hundred million just because she wanted it?
She shook her head, "We weren’t even in the same room. How could you possibly tell what I was interested in?"
"We don’t have to be in the same room for me to know what you’re interested in," His voice seemed to have lowered slightly.
The moment she heard those words, Sienna felt a warmth trailing up her neck. Something about what he said seemed very suggestive but she couldn’t put a finger on it.
"If you are bidding for anything that I want, then I bid for that bracelet too. Why didn’t you get it for me as well?"
"Because I knew you weren’t interested in it," Callahan said it like it was a matter-of-fact.
Her eyes widened. For once, she had no immediate answer. He had read her that easily?
She looked away first, pretending to be fascinated by the orchids in front of them.
