Chapter 1287: Chapter 673: Extra: Speaking of That Deep Love_2
The car finally stopped in front of the hotel. As Alice Robinson got out, perhaps noticing her delicate appearance, the taxi driver kindly held up an umbrella for her.
Alice smiled at the taxi driver as the hotel attendant approached with another umbrella.
A swarm of reporters followed the hotel attendant closely.
The taxi driver was stunned by the scene.
The hotel attendant respectfully said, "Miss Robinson, thank you for coming."
Alice maintained a gentle smile, graceful and charming.
The reporters searched around Alice but didn’t see the expected stately figure, prompting them to ask, "Miss Robinson, isn’t Mr. Robinson coming?"
"We received word that Mr. Robinson would accompany you to this charity banquet tonight."
"Yes, Miss Robinson, why isn’t Mr. Robinson here?"
One question followed another, making it a bit overwhelming for Alice.
Fortunately, the hotel’s security was excellent, immediately blocking the reporters and creating a path for her.
The hotel attendant respectfully said, "Miss Robinson, please."
"Thank you."
With a security escort, Alice smoothly entered the hotel.
However, the reporters wouldn’t let go, following her steps into the hotel lobby, with questions mainly about why Chester Robinson hadn’t arrived.
Finally, Alice stopped walking, allowing all the lights and flashbulbs to focus on her. With a graceful demeanor filled with feminine allure, she said, "Chester was supposed to attend this charity banquet with me, but he was called away at the last minute. He instructed me to support the charity on his behalf tonight... Thank you for your concern."
"Then, Miss Robinson, when will you and Mr. Robinson get married?"
"Have you considered when you’ll have children after marriage?"
Hearing the reporters’ questions, Alice merely chuckled, without providing further answers.
The hotel security escorted her into the elevator, and finally free from the reporters, she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
The hotel attendant apologetically said, "We heard that we invited you and Mr. Robinson, and these reporters were already staking out the hotel entrance early on. We’ve done our best to prevent any trouble for you and Mr. Robinson, but these reporters are relentless... Sorry for the disturbance, Miss Robinson."
Alice smiled and shook her head, "It’s nothing. These reporters are just concerned about Chester and me."
The elevator doors opened at that moment, and the attendant led Alice to the charity banquet venue.
Alice’s black, floor-length gown was both noble and elegant; combined with her beautiful face, she quickly became the center of attention.
Some unknown guests began to approach her and say hello.
Alice didn’t know these people at all and was puzzled as to why they were greeting her, until she overheard snippets of conversation among the guests――
Don’t you know who she is? She’s the girlfriend of Chester Robinson, the president of "QCS."
No wonder she looks so familiar... She doesn’t seem as pretty as on TV, though.
You’re just jealous...
Haha...
Apparently, these inexplicably greeting people were all drawn here by Chester.
The host of the charity banquet approached and warmly said, "Miss Robinson, thank you so much for coming."
"It’s my honor to contribute to the charity."
"There’s a quiet spot over there, Miss Robinson, if you find the crowd overwhelming, you could sit there for a bit and have some food."
"Alright, thank you."
The host led Alice to a corner of the banquet.
This was the quietest place at the banquet, and Alice noticed several well-known New York officials sitting there.
Clearly, the host was giving Alice preferential treatment.
This charity banquet was simply organized to donate to children in African slums. Alice agreed to attend without hesitation after hearing it was for the children. Since the event was purely for fundraising, it wouldn’t last long, but sitting alone without socializing all night indeed became dull.
She picked up a glass of wine and took a sip.
Though it was a cocktail, it tasted unexpectedly bitter and astringent.
Unwilling to take another sip, Alice set the glass down, looked around the room out of boredom, and only then noticed that everyone at the banquet was partnered up.
Most of the guests attended with companions. Some mingled skillfully among the other guests, while others sat together intimately. Watching them, her vision gradually blurred, and she couldn’t help but recall the recent memory of sitting on the sofa with him, lovingly watching TV.
Her nose tingled with emotion, yet thankfully, over the past year, she had built emotional defenses that allowed her to mask her feelings at this moment.
Suddenly, a small commotion broke out among the guests.
Alice snapped back to attention, instinctively looking toward the entrance of the bustling banquet hall.
Right on target, Claud Laurence’s gaze cut through the crowd and locked onto hers.
Indeed, the arrival of Claud Laurence stirred the guests.
They exchanged glances for a second, and Claud apologized to the political and business elites greeting him before he made his way through the crowd towards her.
Alice stood up with a smile, her eyes falling on the girl by Claud’s side. The young woman wore a light-blue strapless dress, her skin as white as snow, with a lovely face—a very youthful and pretty girl.
"Alice," Claud greeted Alice openly.
Alice responded gracefully, "Hi, Claud."
"Long time no see."
In the dim light, Claud’s gaze on her seemed particularly deep.
"Yes, I almost forgot you were in New York."
"It’s such a big city, and yet we meet here; what a coincidence."
"I also didn’t expect to see you here." Acknowledging that for people of Chester’s and Claud’s stature, attending such charity events was a bit beneath them.
Claud smiled and looked at the person beside him, "It’s all this little girl’s doing. She insisted I accompany her because the banquet was organized by her classmate’s mother."
