Chapter 1286: Chapter 673: Extra Story: Confessing That Deep Love
She remembered now, Basha had also asked her over the phone if she could invite him. She seemed to have answered Basha that it was okay.
It seemed that he accepted the invitation tonight.
The fine and continuous rain soaked his suit. He looked straight at her and spoke in a low voice, "Even if we need some time apart, shouldn’t we maintain appearances of love in front of the lover?"
Seeing him, longing surged inside her.
Her fingers tightly clutched the hem of her dress, yet she calmly replied, "If you’re going, then I’m not."
Chester Robinson frowned, "Do you really want to separate from me so completely?"
Alice Robinson replied quietly, "I told you, I don’t want to see you. I want some time to cool down."
"But I can’t bear to be apart from you. I miss you so much. Being apart from you, I can’t focus on work. All I think about is you."
Chester reached out and pulled Alice into his arms.
With an umbrella, Elsa realized she probably shouldn’t be here at this moment, and she backed away.
The rain fell on both of them.
Alice was forced to lean into Chester’s embrace. Her hands did not respond to him.
His hoarse voice reached her ear, "What do I have to say for you to believe that I truly love you?"
His embrace was so warm, she really wanted to hug him back, but...
Alice gently pushed him away, the hem of her dress trailing on the ground and picking up dirt. She stepped out of his embrace and, with no expression, said, "Do you really want me to believe you?"
He happily held her soft shoulders, "Yes."
Alice nodded, "Alright, then call Becca right now. Tell her you don’t love her, say it a hundred times in front of me."
Chester’s joyful expression instantly froze, and he frowned.
"What, you can’t do it?" Alice squinted her eyes.
"I don’t want to drag Becca into this between us anymore."
"Do you think my request is unreasonable?" Alice asked coldly.
Chester helplessly said, "Do you think such a request is reasonable? Becca and I have nothing to do with each other. Doing this is simply harassing her."
"It won’t bother her because I already spoke to Becca last night. I told her if I ever marry you, it would be after you’ve told her a hundred times that you don’t love her. So, I’ve already apologized to Becca and asked her to help me in this way. I just want to hear you say this to her."
Chester looked at her, his expression as hard and cold as stone.
Alice said, "Now you won’t hurt Becca, nor disturb her happiness with Howard Geoffrey. You just have to make this call and say it a hundred times, and from now on, I will never bring up Becca again unless you don’t want me. I will never doubt your love for me again."
Chester did not answer.
Alice looked at him unwaveringly, "Why aren’t you saying anything?"
Chester’s face darkened, "I can’t do it."
"Why not?"
"It’s simply an unreasonable request."
"Or is it perhaps something you just can’t do?"
Chester fell silent again.
The atmosphere between them was heavy as lead.
Alice laughed and said, "Back in Paris, you once told me you were willing to take me before Becca and tell her in person that you don’t love her. You were willing then, why not now?"
Chester’s gaze was distant and cold, his lips pressed into a line.
There was a hint of pain in Alice’s smile, "You knew back then I would never go to New York with you to confirm it with Becca, so you dared to say it to me. But now, Becca is not far from us, and you don’t dare to say such words anymore. Why don’t you speak? Refute me once, just say one word, and my heart won’t hurt like this. Why won’t you speak?"
The rain grew heavier at that moment...
He and she were both drenched in the rain.
They looked at each other, their visions blurred, and in her eyes, it was unclear whether it was rain or tears.
In the next second, Alice lifted her skirt and disappeared into the rain.
In the taxi, Alice’s face still bore traces of undried tears, but her expression had already calmed.
She looked out the window as the bustling cityscape of New York slowly drifted past.
Thankfully, the rain she was caught in had already dried, leaving only slight wrinkles in her dress.
Wiping away the remaining tears on her cheek, she took out her small purse and touched up her makeup.
The foreign driver kept looking at Alice, feeling that she might be a celebrity, as she seemed so familiar, but he couldn’t recall Alice’s name.
