Chapter 1174: Chapter 615: Extra: She Came to Settle the Score with Him 3
Even though she wanted to solve everything on her own, when things weren’t resolved yet and Claud stepped in to help, she felt it was sweet, and it reassured her.
"Miss Robinson, aren’t you going to call General Laurence? I bet he’s been waiting for your call all this time..." Andie teased.
Alice’s face flushed a little; she couldn’t hide her good mood and said with a laugh, "Get out of here, I obviously know I should be grateful to him."
Andie immediately rallied the other colleagues and they all moved to a spot far away from Alice, leaving her the time and space.
Alice really was planning to call Claud Laurence, but right then Claud’s call came through.
Alice picked up, delighted. "Claud!"
Through the phone, Claud could hear how cheerful she was. "Sounds like you’re in a really good mood today."
"Mm... I’m very happy."
"Oh? Tell me, what’s got you this happy?"
Alice pouted. "You’re so annoying. I’m already in such a great mood, my gratitude toward you is obvious enough as it is. Do you really need me to say ’thank you’ out loud?"
Claud’s voice held some confusion. "What is it, Alice, what do you have to thank me for?"
"It’s just..." Alice was about to blurt it out instinctively, but suddenly realized something. She frowned slightly and asked, "It wasn’t you putting pressure on Rodney?"
"Who’s Rodney?"
Alice’s body jolted, and the joy on her face stiffened a little. "Uh, Claud... you didn’t help me?"
Claud sounded very puzzled. "Help you? Have you been having trouble with something?"
"Uh... I... I haven’t, I..."
"I’m sorry, Alice, I’ve been too busy these two days and haven’t asked about how things are going for you in Germany. Did everything go smoothly with securing the sponsorship?"
Alice’s complexion was already turning a bit pale. "I... I’ve secured the sponsorship."
"What’s wrong? Your tone sounds strange, and that question you just asked me came out of nowhere. Are you in some kind of trouble?"
"No... Claud, this trip to Germany has gone really smoothly. I’ve already successfully landed the sponsorship."
"Congratulations."
"Thank you."
"But you don’t sound too good. Did something happen?"
"No. Claud, why are you calling me so early? Aren’t you busy today?" In the chaos in her head, Alice changed the subject.
Claud answered with a laugh, "Sorry, I was in meetings all day yesterday. After the meetings I saw your text and wanted to call, but it was already too late and I was afraid of disturbing your sleep. I’m only returning your call now... I’m very happy, hearing you say something like that to me for the first time."
Alice didn’t respond; she was a bit absent-minded.
"I miss you too, Alice. Every minute and every second away from you is the hardest time of my life. I wish I could come back to you right now..."
Alice cut him off. "Uh, Claud..."
"Mm?"
"I have a meeting with my team now... I’ll call you back later."
Clearly in a very good mood because of Alice’s text, Claud said softly, "Okay... take good care of yourself for me."
"Mm."
Alice set down her phone, looking thoughtful.
Andie had somehow sidled up next to her. "Miss Robinson, how was it? Did General Laurence shower you with another pile of sweet nothings?"
Alice, who’d been lost in thought, was startled by Andie, and her face grew even paler.
Seeing that Alice didn’t look well, Andie dropped the teasing and asked with concern, "Miss Robinson, what’s wrong? You don’t look so good."
Alice shook her head. "I’m fine... Oh, right, take the others back to the hotel first. Since we’ve secured the sponsorship, we might have to stay on in Germany for a few more days."
"Okay... are you coming with us, Miss Robinson?"
Alice said, "No, I still have something to do... You guys go ahead, I’ll get in touch later."
"Yes, ma’am."
In front of the café, Alice hailed a taxi.
Sitting in the cab, Alice kept a dark expression on her face.
At last the taxi stopped in front of the hotel she’d checked out of yesterday morning, and she headed straight inside.
The elevator stopped at the top floor of the hotel and the doors slid open.
Alice, face clouded, was about to cross the rooftop garden to get to the room when she noticed a figure cutting through the water in the pool.
It was Chester.
He was swimming.
Alice stood at the edge of the pool, gloomily watching him doing breaststroke, splashing up water.
In the distance, four bodyguards were debating whether they should move in to stop Alice, but Keith Antony had already walked over to them and waved them back.
