Chapter 1172: Chapter 614: Extra Story: She Came to Settle Accounts 2
"Let’s not talk about this for now... Oh right, I didn’t make it to the bidding meeting today. Did you guys go?" Her mind had been crammed full by last night’s episode, and only now did she remember something so important.
Andie said, "We’re right outside the bidding venue, but the staff wouldn’t let us in. They said we’re not qualified to bid."
"Is the bidding still going on?"
"Yeah, but it’s about to end."
Alice Robinson said, "Wait for me there, I’ll be right over. I have the recommendation letter signed by Rodney in my hand."
"Okay, Miss Robinson, please hurry. I’m afraid the bidding’s going to end any minute."
"Mm."
Alice Robinson rushed to the bidding venue as fast as she could.
The well-dressed pervert Rodney was on stage announcing the bidding companies; his professional, focused demeanor was completely different from the man he’d been last night.
Holding back her fury, Alice Robinson cursed Rodney silently in her heart and handed the contract to Andie. "Give this to the staff."
Andie was overjoyed. "Miss Robinson, you’re amazing, you actually got Rodney’s recommendation letter. I’ll go right now."
Alice Robinson felt awkward and embarrassed.
Andie dashed into the hall.
The bidding hadn’t ended yet, so Tench still ought to have had a chance. But after going in full of excitement, Andie came out dejected.
Alice Robinson asked Andie in confusion, "What happened? Why didn’t you give the contract to the staff?"
Andie said despondently, "They said we forged the contract, because Rodney told them all the bidding slots were already filled."
"But this is a recommendation letter personally signed by Rodney..."
Andie replied, aggrieved, "They went to Mr. Rodney to verify it. Mr. Rodney said he never signed this recommendation letter."
Alice Robinson fumed, "This is a contract with legal effect. He can’t just go back on it whenever he feels like it."
Andie muttered, "But Rodney said he did see you last night, Miss Robinson, only last night he just drank a lot with you and never signed any such contract. Even if he really did sign it, it would’ve been when he was drunk and not conscious, so a contract like this has no legal effect. Also, Rodney insists that a small company like Tench, which isn’t even listed yet, has no right to be the wine sponsor for the Beer Festival."
Alice Robinson’s face darkened with rage; she had never imagined Rodney could be this shameless.
She knew her deliberate approach to Rodney last night hadn’t been entirely aboveboard, but in social settings, using that kind of "opposites attract" tactic to win certain benefits was hardly unusual. Besides, she had asked Rodney to sign the contract while he was clearly sober last night.
At that moment, thunderous applause erupted from inside the venue. The bidding meeting was over.
Andie asked, "Miss Robinson, what do we do now? Looks like Rodney has already announced the winning company."
Alice Robinson glanced at Rodney standing on the stage.
Rodney seemed to notice Alice Robinson’s gaze, and a smug smile appeared on his hateful face.
Alice Robinson gritted her teeth and forced out, "Forget it, let’s just go back first!"
"Yes."
The atmosphere in the car was heavy and quiet; everyone was dejected that this trip to Germany had yielded nothing.
Alice Robinson spoke apologetically, "It’s because I’m not capable enough that I couldn’t convince the German government to let Tench take part in the bidding. All your thorough preparations for coming to Germany with me have gone to waste."
All the employees in the car shook their heads. Andie spoke on their behalf, "Miss Robinson, this isn’t your fault. We know you tried really hard... If it weren’t for you, Tench wouldn’t even be on the verge of going public now."
Alice Robinson sighed. "It’s a real pity we couldn’t secure the wine sponsorship for the Beer Festival. We also lost a great publicity opportunity. But let’s not get discouraged. Once we’re back home, we can still think up better ways to promote ourselves."
"Yeah, yeah... Miss Robinson, we’ll all work hard."
"Yes... Miss Robinson, please don’t blame yourself. We all know how hard you’ve worked. We’ll definitely come up with a promotional idea even better than the Beer Festival." Andie comforted her.
Alice Robinson smiled at everyone. "These past few days you’ve all been on edge, fighting alongside me. I know you’re exhausted... Since we’re already here in Germany, you’re all free this afternoon. Go enjoy yourselves in this foreign country and relax a bit. Tomorrow morning we’ll head back to France."
"Okay, thank you, Miss Robinson..."
"Miss Robinson, you’re really too good to us..."
