Chapter 1150: Born Bald [GT Ranking Bonus Chapter]
’How come I didn’t think about this before?’ Asher remained in thought for a moment, but after a couple of moments of deliberate consideration, he chose to forget about it. He would try creating the skill later, since he had already thought about it now.
Just because he was intelligent didn’t mean he would always think up every skill in existence to create. Besides, if his current control over space proved insufficient, he would give up. After all, the skill was sort of redundant, given that he already had the system inventory, which was practically infinite in size.
His thoughts took less than a second due to his Thought Acceleration ability. Corporal Gideon nodded at the three of them, then walked away with the remaining few Cadets. Lyra wanted to stay behind, but she couldn’t. It wasn’t like she would be assigned the same room as Asher.
Asher turned to her and nodded. She nodded back, then followed behind Corporal Gideon as they headed to the next door. Saitama was the first to move. He opened the door and entered without delay. Asher and Acker followed right behind him, the trio expecting a fourth, older Cadet to be their roommate.
As they entered, the trio’s eyes fell on the two bunk beds within the room. One of the bunk beds was already occupied, and their fourth, currently absent roommate stayed at the top bunk. On the wall was a single source of light that brightly illuminated the room. Aside from that, nothing else existed within the room.
It was just a place to sleep, nothing else.
"Amitabha, fellow Cadet. Have you heard of Buddha?" Acker Holloway immediately spoke, turning his attention to Saitama Silverleaf.
Saitama paused for a moment, surprised that Acker was talking to him. He nodded after a moment of delay as he spoke.
"Yes, I’ve heard of him." His tone was flat.
Acker was stunned for a moment. He had expected the usual no that people always gave, yet for the first time, he was receiving a positive answer. Happiness couldn’t help but swell in his chest as he asked.
"Fellow Buddhist, where did you hear of and find Buddha?" he asked, wanting to know where this guy had started his journey. After all, the guy was bald like him.
Saitama Silverleaf shook his head as he reiterated, "I’m not a Buddhist, nor did I hear of Buddha from any mysterious place. I simply heard of him from you during the Inter-Empire Tournament and also watched you pray and summon him," he explained calmly.
Hearing Saitama’s words, the excitement that the bald Buddhist felt immediately deflated like a punctured balloon. He finally understood how this fellow bald man had heard of his Buddha.
"It seems I’m destined to walk this path alone. Amitabha!" he stated as tears fell down his eyes. The moment the tears reached his jawline, they vanished.
Asher felt like laughing, but he held it in. He simply shook his head, held the upper part of the empty bunk, and leaped onto it as he chose the top bunk. Acker sat below him, taking the bottom bunk, while Saitama stayed at the bottom bunk of the second one.
"Since I saw you cry at the Inter-Empire Tournament, I’ve been meaning to ask," Saitama spoke as he decided to ask a question that had been on his mind for the past ten months. Since the Buddhist had already established rapport, he decided to ask, "Why do your tears vanish when they reach your jawline instead of hitting the ground?" He laid down on his bed, his leg crossed over the other as he spoke.
Acker, who was sitting, paused for a moment, as that was the first time someone had asked him this question. But regardless, he decided to ask his own questions.
"And why did you choose to go bald when you aren’t a Buddhist? That could create a lot of misunderstanding," he asked, as Saitama being bald was one of the reasons he had thought the man was a fellow follower of Buddha.
Saitama stayed silent for a moment, then turned to the wall, his back facing Acker and Asher as he replied.
"I was born bald." His tone was flat, showing he wasn’t going to continue the conversation.
Asher, who was sitting at the top as he listened to the exchange between Saitama and Acker, was stunned. Even Acker was stunned. This was the first time they were hearing of someone being born bald. Even Acker, who was bald at this moment, could grow his hair if he had wanted to. To both Asher and Acker, this was unprecedented.
Why? Simply because everyone within this planet had a perfect hairline, just like how all of them were always in top shape, even if they ate, drank, and lazed around. And just like how Finch was the odd one out with his ’special constitution’ at this moment, Saitama was now another odd person.
’This is surprising,’ Asher thought to himself, but made no other comments.
He shook his head and jumped down from his position, then walked towards the door. Acker, who was sitting on his bed, spoke.
"I won’t be following you this time, Tenth Sun." His tone was calm. "It’s time for my night prayers."
Asher paused, turned to the Buddhist, and nodded his head. Without a word, he stepped out. He was currently going to look around. After all, this was his first time here, and he couldn’t just remain within his room.
He wasn’t really bothered about sharing a room with three people. Back on Earth, he had been an orphan, and children at the orphanage always shared rooms with a lot of other kids.
As he walked, his purple eyes fell upon a man and two women who were kissing and engaging in foreplay right within the hallway. Asher couldn’t help but wonder if these three people couldn’t just go to their rooms and continue whatever they were doing. He shook his head, not saying anything.
As he walked, he met other new Cadets like himself. They were already within the hallway, seemingly ready to explore the entertainment area and see what went on there.
Asher crossed into the entertainment area, and the moment he did, he heard a muffled noise. His purple eyes shifted to the side, where he saw a group of Cadets beating up the Noble Cadet who had insulted them earlier.
"You think this is your Noble Territory?" one spoke as he stomped on his head.
"What happened to your fat tongue? Don’t have any more sharp words for us," a woman said as she kicked his stomach.
After a round of beating, one of them stepped forward, healed the Noble, and then they continued beating him up, repeating the process until they had their fill of revenge. Asher ignored them and stepped into the hall where the fun was happening.
As he entered, smoke filled the air as various Cadets smoked. Some women had men sitting on their laps and vice versa. They smoked, drank, and played various games. If any type of music was playing in the background, one might mistake this place for a club or something of the nature.
Asher didn’t judge or say anything. This was probably a way of relieving stress. Just because they smoked and played games here didn’t mean they didn’t train or take any mission they were assigned seriously.
