Chapter 198: MEETING AN OLD PACK MEMBER
They did trust Seara in this, as they waited until she said it was alright for them to leave. There was no confirmation of whether or not she had a special ability that allowed her to guide them through the whole situation.
They simply trusted her, probably because they were already very exhausted and they needed more time to rest.
"While we are waiting, I will check if there is something we can drink." Kayden stood up and went to the back of the shop. There must be a pantry there, and he returned less than fifteen minutes later with three soda cans. "These are all I can find." He gave one to Seara and one to Jared.
Jared opened the can for Seara because her arm still hurt, while she thanked both of them. She still didn’t make it clear whether they could go or not; therefore, they stayed like that for an hour.
Kayden was dozing off after he finished his drink and leaned his back against the wall behind them, while Jared stayed alert with Seara, who didn’t say anything. He had draped a jacket he took from the shop over her shoulders, thinking she might be cold.
"Thank you," Seara said as she shrugged into the jacket. "Should we leave money for the jacket?" They had broken into the shop, and now they took the clothes too.
Jared checked the price tag and went to the counter to put the money there. He sat down beside Seara again. "Done."
Thankfully, he didn’t lose his wallet.
"Are we clear to go?" Jared squinted his eyes at the clock on the wall; it said it was already two in the morning.
"Not yet." Seara still could feel them, and their presence made her anxious. Why didn’t they leave? Her paranoid mind started to think they could feel her too, but that was not possible, because if that was the case, they would have found them here.
Jared wanted to ask some more questions, but he stopped himself, since Seara didn’t look like she was in the mood to talk.
Half an hour later, she broke the silence, while Kayden was already deep in his sleep. "Can’t you mind-link with Jeremy and the others? Do you think..." Seara gulped, struggling to finish her words. "Do you think they are fine?"
"They will be fine," Jayden reassured her, but he also reassured himself, because he couldn’t think of the other option. "I can’t. They must be too far away. We have run in different directions after the car crash."
Seara nodded; she hugged herself again, massaging her earlier broken shoulder. The pain was still there, but it didn’t bother her anymore, as she stared at the street lights quietly.
It was three in the morning when Seara finally couldn’t feel any trace of that dreadful feeling anymore. "We can go now. Let’s hurry." She stood up.
Jayden then woke Kayden up, and the warrior immediately sat down. He looked around him in confusion, but a second later his eyes sharpened as he remembered where they were.
Thereafter, they went out of the shop. Seara watched how Kayden unlocked the door without a key. She thought to ask him to teach her how to do that; it might be useful for her one day.
Thankfully, the car that Kayden had spotted earlier was still parked there, so they all approached it. Kayden used the same trick once more to unlock the door. Somehow, he found a way to disable the alarm too.
Seara watched as he half-shifted his finger and used his claw to pick the lock.
"Get inside." Kayden opened the door, and Jared would drive while Seara sat in the backseat.
After being in a bad car crash and having had to sit in one again in less than half a day, it was really a nerve-racking experience. Seara felt her palms were clammy, but she didn’t want to be difficult here. She knew there was no other way for them to get out of this situation than using this car.
From the backseat, Seara watched Kayden fiddle with the wires, and the car engine came to life.
Jared immediately floored the car and took them out of there.
They were not safe yet until they got into Asher’s territory, but it meant going back to the place where she used to live.
Her old pack was part of King Asher’s area, and with the current situation, she assumed all the pack warriors would be in a united front; there was a high chance she would meet someone that she knew.
"Can you make a call, Seara?" Jared asked as he looked around. He drove more carefully this time. Instead of speeding up, he took his time to check his surroundings.
Seara checked her phone, and it was dead. "I can’t; the phone is dead."
Therefore, in the next few hours, they didn’t say anything, and Seara stayed vigilant as she checked her surroundings too, getting in tune with her feelings.
However, there was a time when she would confuse her anxiety with the dreadful feeling that meant the enemy was near.
In the end, she was too exhausted to stay awake and fell asleep. She curled in the backseat; the pain in her shoulder didn’t subside, but that was the least of her worries.
When she woke up next, it was to Kayden, who shook her body lightly, telling her that they were already there.
Slowly, Seara sat down and looked around her. She didn’t recognize this place, which meant they were in another pack within Asher’s territory.
But when she stepped out of the car and saw Asher, there was another person beside the king, and it was Rexton—Eudora’s twin brother, the previous beta of the pack. But after Daven fell from his alpha position, Rexton was now the alpha of the pack.
Their eyes locked, and he nodded politely, as if they were strangers.
Seara felt her whole body was cold, though she had her jacket. Rexton looked reserved, like an alpha, but he was not always like that.
