Claimed by the Mad Lycan King

Chapter 185: IT CAN BE A TRAP TOO

Another reason for their reluctance to engage in a war against humans was the old magic, which prohibited them from killing humans.

If they fell into the madness, the shifters would have a huge problem on their hands, and it would create an entirely different complication.

"You can’t take advantage of our authority at a time like this, King Zade. This is not right."

"This will be a temporary arrangement." Zade stood up. "I don’t want the headache of your alphas when I have a lot to deal with here. Once Altair returns, he can assume his position."

Zade then took Seara away before she could suggest something else, and he was tempted to cave in.

"King Zade!" Kaleb was not happy with it. He stood up from his seat, but Zade had left the room with his mate. "Zade!"

Zephyr threw a crumpled paper at his head. "Mind the way you address our king," he said in a reprimanding tone.

However, the beta glared unhappily at him. There were only the three of them here, and Kaleb had to make a quick decision, since in the absence of Altair, he was the highest authority in the kingdom.

"You should agree to the suggestion. I can assure you, Zade doesn’t want your territory; he doesn’t want more responsibility that can keep him away from his mate." Ace stood up and poured a glass of water for himself.

From the window, they could watch the sun slowly appear on the horizon, painting the sky in a rich hue of orange.

"Putting all the alphas under one command is easier, and Zade can keep his eyes on his mate too. I think that is the only compromise that Zade is willing to make."

In a way, Kaleb could see how it would benefit him, since a Lycan was the only shifter who could assume command of the alphas.

Even having two alphas in the room could cause problems, since there couldn’t be two suns in the sky, but the Lycans could suppress the alphas’ domineering nature.

That was why Zade said Jazz wouldn’t be able to contain countless alphas in one room for a long time.

"Get some rest," Zade said. He took Seara to her bedroom, but this time he wouldn’t stay; there were a lot of things that he had to take care of.

Leigh and Lidya would be in the room with her.

"Zade, can’t you stay for a while?" Seara felt bad even when she asked this of him, because she knew she was acting selfish now.

"I will see you in the afternoon." Zade kissed her forehead and then left her with her two warriors.

Seara wanted to go with Zade, but of course, it was not possible. She wanted to help, but there was a limit to it. It stressed her out to be left behind. She felt like a burden.

"Don’t have a long face; you will have wrinkles at a young age," Leigh said to cheer her up.

"I wish I could do something to help," Seara said with a sigh. She sat down on the edge of the bed and stared at the ceiling. She didn’t feel sleepy, but her whole body was exhausted.

"You are already helping enough. With you being safe, it already puts the king’s mind at ease." Leigh sat down next to her. "Why don’t you get some rest? This is already morning, and you lost so much sleep."

Seara didn’t feel like sleeping now, but when she saw the sky that had turned brighter, she missed the day when she woke up in that bungalow. That must have been the most peaceful time that she had.

Waking up next to Zade and engaging in mundane activities felt like a distant memory.

Now that she looked back, Seara realized how much she had taken for granted. Despite the raging madness in her mind and her untamed delusions, she would gladly trade her current situation for those simpler moments.

She would be willing to embrace her delusions rather than endure the chaos brought on by the devils.

And when Seara thought about it, she saw Sybill. She was perching on the windowsill, staring at the bright sky out there.

For a moment, Seara was stunned because her delusion returned, but when Sybill turned her head and looked at her, she smiled at Seara, and she found herself smiling back at her.

It didn’t freak her out anymore to see Sybill, and it was hard to tell why she was seeing her again now, but one thing was for sure: Sybill didn’t bring that dreadful feeling that she felt whenever she saw the devils.

"I can’t believe it..." Seara muttered under her breath.

"What is it?" Leigh asked; she was sitting next to her, so she could hear what she was saying.

But Seara shook her head and smiled at the she-wolf. "Nothing."

Probably, seeing Sybill again now without having a meltdown was a sign that she had made peace with herself.

"I want to see Leia."

Seara couldn’t sleep, so she thought that having Leia around would be better than stewing in her own feelings. She must have the same concern about the current situation as well, especially when her mate and her son were in a precarious position as Zade’s trusted people.

"We got a message from Jack," Ace told Zade when he returned to the room. Kaleb was still there, but he was on the phone with Jazz, who sounded distressed.

The Royal Gamma was at his breaking point. Two alphas had already started fighting back, and, obviously, the news had already picked up on it, painting shifters in a bad light as aggressive creatures and spreading more fear among people.

"Tomorrow, in Wvern City Hall. He will have a speech there in front of the media. Jack can help us to meet him before it." Ace handed the phone, showing the text from Jack. "But it can be a trap too," he added.
