Chapter 145: THERE IS SOMETHING HERE
Apparently, Chloe was well aware of Jeremy’s crush on her, but she always thought of him as her little brother, since she was the youngest in her family. Moreover, it was because she saw Leia as a mother figure for her.
Since her own mother died while giving birth to her, she didn’t have a mother figure in her life until she met Leia.
"Don’t tease him," Leia warned her.
"Okay, okay," Chloe said lightheartedly between chuckles. "Don’t worry, he will get over it once he finds his destined mate."
Leia could only shake her head while continuing to paint Seara’s nails. "You have beautiful fingers, Seara," she stated. Seara had slender fingers and smooth skin. Her condition was much better than it was nearly a year ago.
Time went so fast; two months from now, it would be one year since Zade found her in that nasty cell.
"Seara, do you know that Zade loves spicy food?" Chloe said with a smug smile on her lips. Her eyes lit up, waiting for Seara’s reaction.
But it was Leia who reprimanded her again. "Zade can’t stand spicy food. Stop messing around with her and giving her false information."
Chloe simply grinned; she liked to rile people up, but Seara didn’t seem to be bothered. She was very quiet from the beginning.
"What’s wrong, Seara?" Leia asked, her concern evident. She had been trying to draw Seara into the conversation, but her thoughts appeared to be elsewhere. "Is something bothering you?"
"I have not seen Maisie and Caylin yet. Where are they?" Seara asked. She had seen Caylin a few days before, but she had not yet seen Maisie ever since she was discharged from the hospital.
The last time Seara heard about Maisie was when Leia told her that Reaper had attacked the omega. Therefore, it was only natural that Seara was worried if something had happened to her.
"You don’t know?" Chloe lay down on the carpet as she admired her new nails’ color. It was a shade of darker pink. "Maisie is the traitor; she is the one who has taken away the devil and poisoned some of the warriors."
Chloe was good with information, so learning such a thing or two about what happened yesterday, especially since she was involved in it, was not a problem for her.
"Is that true?" Seara asked, looking at Leia. She had learned her lesson about not taking everything Chloe said without getting confirmation.
"Yes, honey. Unfortunately, yes. That’s what happened." Leia looked at Seara sadly, because she was close with Maisie and Caylin.
"What about Caylin?"
"She is under investigation because she is close with Maisie, but don’t worry; if she is proven innocent, she can leave and serve you again," Leia reassured Seara, but it was not enough.
"I want to talk to Zade." Seara stood up.
"I think you can’t talk to him now; he is in an important meeting with the other two kings. You will not want to disturb them." Chloe was still admiring her nails as she talked to Seara.
Lying down flat on the carpet, Chloe moved closer to Leia and used her thigh as a pillow, asking her to caress her head.
"Seara? Are you okay?" Leia caressed Chloe’s head as she used to do, but she noticed Seara was still standing still. She didn’t turn around, so she had her back facing Leia, making it difficult to see her expression. "Seara?"
Because Seara didn’t answer Leia’s question, Chloe called her as well. "Hey, Mom is talking to you. It’s not polite to ignore her, you know."
Still, Seara didn’t budge, but then, abruptly, she turned around and looked at Chloe. "Can you feel that?"
"Feel what?" Chloe furrowed her brows.
Seara had a difficult time putting her feelings into words, but she looked tense, which alerted Leia, as she mind-linked a few warriors around the house to check if something was out of place.
"That..." Seara bit her lip; she wanted to get the words out, but she felt as if her vocabulary evaporated from her head. "When you saw Lilith—do you feel that feeling?"
Chloe pushed herself into a sitting position. "Feel what?"
"Feeling—dreadful. Scared for no reason," Seara said, trying to articulate what was in her mind. But the more she tried, the more the words became a jumbled mess in her head.
She tried to slow down and calm herself down, because if she let the panic engulf her, she wouldn’t be able to say anything.
"No, I didn’t feel anything. I knew she was Lilith because of her eyes. The devils have golden eyes, and that’s what I know. Moreover, she could do creepy things, so yeah. I knew she was Lilith, but I didn’t sense anything from her." Chloe tilted her head. "What do you mean?"
Seara clutched her chest. Now she understood. She was the only one who felt this way. But was this feeling reliable? Or was she only being paranoid?
"Tell me, Seara, what is it?" Leia stood up and approached Seara. She had Seara sit down and patiently tried to understand how she felt. Meanwhile, she mind-linked a warrior, instructing him to be ready to inform Zade if necessary.
Leia got the report back that the warriors didn’t see anything out of place. Aside from two of Jeremy’s friends having visited them, there was nothing out of the ordinary.
Seara started to move uncomfortably as she pointed at the door. "There is something in the house. This is the same feeling I felt when I saw Lilith."
Seara also had the same feeling when the red-eyed man appeared during the first attack on the watchtower, which led Zade to move the devil to a different place.
"There is something." Her teeth chattered as the panic consumed her. Her hands turned so cold, and Leia tried to calm her down.
"Should we call Zade?" Chloe suggested. She became worried too because of Seara’s strong reaction.
"A warrior has informed him."
