Civilization Chronicles: Rise of the Divine Creator
Chapter 648: Rejuvenation
Atop a large Tartan, a noble woman gazed ahead, peering through the late-morning sunshine coming from behind her, and couldn’t help frowning deeply.
It was New Years Eve, and she had decided to return home today for the annual celebrations after having been away for quite some time, yet the first thing she encountered as she approached the city was the sound of alert bells and the clashing weapons.
Understanding that her home was under attack, the woman set aside all other thoughts and spurred her mount forward.
Feeling the cold wind whip past her face, she channeled Soul Qi into her eyes and Spirit Qi into her weapon of choice.
Pulling 3 arrows from her Space Bag, she nocked all of them at once then fully drew her the longbow, taking aim at the strongest Wild Beasts which were charging the city walls.
…..
The battle lasted a full hour, during which time the female archer had played a pivotal role, killing over 500 beasts all on her own, 3 of which were in the Fifth Order.
The woman had also assumed command of several Squads of Aerial Cavalry which had joined the battle from the nearby military base shortly after her arrival.
She wasn’t registered as a leader of this defensive force, but no one from the army objected to her presence or to her taking charge of the battle for a very simple reason, she was the Supreme Elder of the family that ruled this city, as well as a Low-Rank Martial Adept.
…..
Touching down in the field designated for aerial mounts at the base, Elizabeth Carlson leapt off the tartan she had borrowed from Celestina and landed on the ground in front of the gathered crowd.
Pulling back her hood and removing her flight mask, Elizabeth revealed her face to everyone, and gasps immediately sounded from all around.
Many here recognized the unique cultivation aura of the Supreme Elder of the Carlson Family, as well as her voice and the Spirit Bow she used in battle, so all of them had been expecting to see a familiar old face, emphasis on ‘old’.
Instead, however, they saw something completely different.
When last she left Iron Rock, Elizabeth looked like a 70-year-old granny. She had maintained herself extremely well and always carried herself with a refined elegance that gave her a kind of timeless class, but that didn’t change the fact that she had grown old and even somewhat frail looking.
Now, however, the wrinkles had smoothed, her cheeks had become supple, and the grey hair on her head had dark brown roots.
It had been 18 days since her breakthrough, and in that time, Elizabeth Carlson had essentially aged backwards, to the point where she now looked like she was in her early 40’s.
This was one of the biggest and most coveted effects of breaking through to a new Major Realm, the reinvigoration of one’s vitality and the extension of their life expectancy.
Before her breakthrough, Elizabeth probably would have lived another 10 or 20 years at most with her physical condition slowly deteriorating the whole time, but now, perhaps thanks to the unique method she used to reach the Martial Adept Realm, it was likely she had gained 70 or 80 more years of life on top of that, as well as a return to a much more robust state of her body.
Calling her current look mature, or even middle-aged wouldn’t be inaccurate, but ‘old’ definitely didn’t suit her anymore.
Of course, the changes weren’t just to her face, nor were they just skin-deep; reaching the Low-Rank Martial Adept Realm had rejuvenated everything about Elizabeth’s body.
While it was impossible to tell right now given the thick winter flight clothes she was wearing, Elizabeth’s figure had also reverted back to her younger days with her muscles tightening, her skin softening, and her curves becoming more defined.
In fact, many of her physical features were actually better compared to the time when she originally looked this age, her physique having being further refined by the rich Martial Qi now coursing through her veins.
She hadn’t returned to the peak of her youth or beauty, but the current Elizabeth Carlson was still more than capable of turning heads wherever she went.
In fact, no small number of men, and even a few women in the crowd, were staring at her with obvious interest.
A few among the older generations also wore looks of nostalgia as they recalled seeing this same face many decades ago.
Elizabeth hadn’t missed all of these stares, which in turn caused her to smile slightly.
A similar scene had played out when she first emerged from seclusion back in Misty City, with everyone there openly praising and congratulating her again. She had even received quite a few gifts back then, ones specifically meant for ‘younger women’.
Putting it simply, no one disliked being beautiful or others admiring them, not even someone as refined and dignified as the Carlson Family’s Supreme Elder.
Still, Elizabeth had never been one to indulge in vanity, so she quickly composed herself, handed the reins of her mount to a nearby handler, and asked aloud, “Where is General Larson?”
The sound of her voice seemed to snap the crowd out of their daze, and a Spirit Initiate Commander from Steel Shield Legion quickly stepped forward, “Reporting to Lady Carlson, General Larson was called back to the capital for some reason, while Vice-General Cross is currently leading a scouting party beyond the walls, looking for the beasts responsible for orchestrating the recent attacks.”
“I see,” Elizabeth nodded, “It seems my arrival was quite timely, then.”
“Indeed,” the young Commander nodded in complete agreement.
The attack just now had consisted of some 3,000 beasts, and was led by at least a dozen Fifth Order Beasts, 3 of whom were at the Peak-Rank.
While the defenses at this military base, which included over 50 Spirit Initiates as well as numerous powerful siege weapons, were definitely strong enough to repel such an attack, the presence of an Adept-Realm Cultivator certainly made the battle much easier.
This was precisely why a country having one more, or one less Adept was such a big deal in the South-Central Region.
Even the biggest, oldest, and strongest of the five nations, the Tarnath Dynasty, only had 60 or so Cultivators in the Adept-Realm, making each one a precious powerhouse.
