Civilization Chronicles: Rise of the Divine Creator
Chapter 647: Damn Lucky
“That’s… good?” Christina replied to Eris’ update on her current relationship with Lucas.
Eris also felt a bit uncertain whether it was a good thing there had been no advancement in her love life; however, she soon just shrugged, “It’s fine. There’s no need for us to feel anxious.”
“True,” Christina nodded, her shoulders relaxing slightly, “Lucas isn’t going anywhere, and neither are we.”
Despite confirming each other’s opinions on the matter some time ago, Eris and Christina weren’t in a rush to make anything official as, once again, they felt they had plenty of time for that in the future.
Both of them had every intention of reaching the Grandmaster Realm, or perhaps even beyond that, and with the gradual advancement of Project Ascension, Tina and Eris were confident they, along with Lucas and everyone else they cared about, would get there one day.
“Although,” Eris suddenly grinned, “Big Sister Louise seems to be trying to make something happen.”
Hearing this, for a second, Christina wasn’t sure whether she should thank or berate her eldest sister.
“Well, at least Sister Louise isn’t trying to hook up with him as well,” Christina mused somewhat sarcastically.
She was well aware of her eldest sister’s dark history with dating, but Christina was also certain Louise wasn’t so desperate to be eyeing Lucas as well.
“En en,” Eris nodded, “Big Sister Louise grumbles about love every now and then, especially when she has too much to drink, but she really only treats Lucas like a little brother… or a punching bag.”
“Sounds like Louise,” Christina giggled along with Eris.
“That said,” Tina’s expression suddenly turned serious, “I’m sure there will be… others in the future who set their sights on Lucas.”
“Probably,” Eris nodded solemnly.
“You know what that means, right?” Christina asked.
Eris nodded once more and declared forcefully, “If any other girls want to marry Lucas in the future, they’ll have to get our approval first!”
Naturally, Tina tripped over her own feet and face-planted when she heard those words as they were completely not what she was trying to imply.
Looking up to see the worried look on Eris’ face, Christina didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
What she did know, was that Lucas was damn lucky to always have Eris on his side, because in this regard, she certainly wasn’t.
The bigger a man’s harem got, the harder it was for all his wives to not kill each other, or at least that’s what her own mother had told her.
The reverse was also true, of course. Powerful female Cultivators having multiple lovers, or even a harem of their own, was nothing unusual on the Blue Sky Continent, and with a bunch of hot-headed males competing for one woman’s interest, it was quite easy to imagine things getting violent.
Now, the fact that Christina’s mother, Cynthia, had two marital sisters who she adored and got along extremely well with, meant that it wasn’t impossible for there to be more than 2 women in a man’s life. As for what the limit was… well, Christina figured she could find out, hopefully, in the far, far distant future.
Accepting Eris’ help to get back up, Christina pursed her lips slightly as she sank into her own thoughts again, but this time she gave up pretty quickly and decided to just go along with her Senior Sister’s idea for now, “Well, there aren’t any other girls around Lucas yet, so I guess we’ll just have to deal with them when they appear.”
“En,” Eris smiled, commenting wistfully, “I hope they’re nice, and we can all get along.”
Christina almost tripped and fell again.
.….
*Achoo!~* Lucas suddenly sneezed, wondering if someone was talking about him behind his back somewhere.
…..
The next day, after finishing up all her reports, Christina, along with Lucas, Eris, Louise, Allina, Samuel, Timothy, and several others were down at the docks again, this time to welcome the Piercing Sword Legion’s Second Regiment and the Special Envoy from the Roth Duke Family, Olivia Roth.
Originally, this small convoy was meant to sail down the Lorren together with the Raging River Legion ship Christina was aboard, but at the last minute, there was something kind of issue with one of the vessels which prevented them from departing together.
Since Christina’s ship had already set sail, they decided against turning back as there really didn’t seem to be any reason to, which had led to today’s situation.
After the docking procedures were completed, Charlotte and Olivia Roth were the first to descend the gangway, where they were greeted politely by the assembled officers and officials.
“Vice-General Crest,” Charlotte greeted in a formal, almost cold tone.
“Commander Roth,” Allina returned the formality in a perfectly neutral tone. Whether this was her intentionally dismissing Charlotte, or simply the way she usually talked while on duty, only she would know.
Samuel, who was here to represent the Balfour Family, also gave a polite but curt greeting to the younger sister of Duke Gregory Roth, a gesture Charlotte returned with an equal lack of enthusiasm.
While the adults were busy not getting along, however, the younger generation was having a much friendlier reunion.
This was actually Olivia’s third trip to Misty City this year, the first being to greet Second Queen Ancestor Ariana, and the second being to attend Christina’s 16th birthday banquet.
As such, the young Roth daughter had actually made a few friends and several times as many acquaintances here, all of whom had a generally positive impression of the quiet yet beautiful young lady.
Together with Christina’s enthusiastic welcome of her childhood friend, and Eris’ general bubbliness, the youths got along just swimmingly and were soon chatting happily about all manner of things from current events in the kingdom to the upcoming New Years celebrations.
Suffice-it-to-say, when the adults noticed this, they all felt a bit embarrassed at their own immaturity.
Sure, it might be easier for youngsters without as much complicated shared history to get along with one another, but that was hardly an excuse for the older generation to not even try to do so.
Shaking her head wryly, Allina finally smiled lightly and addressed the gathered officers and soldiers from the Piercing Sword Legion’s Second Regiment, “We’ve actually prepared a small welcome event for you all. It’s nothing special, but the General insisted, saying it would help foster cooperation between our armies during your deployment.”
“Once you’ve finished settling in at the barracks, please do attend,” Allina encouraged.
Pursing her lips, Charlotte Roth took a deep breath before also managing to curl her lips upwards slightly, “Thank you for your consideration, Vice-General Crest. We will gladly accept General Balfour’s most generous invitation.”
