Child of Destiny

Chapter 2096 - 2096: The Final Trial (Part 6): The Snakes Strikes

Roar! Roar! Roar! Roar!

After fighting for a while, the first two hours of the battle had finally passed. Everyone was starting to sense the overwhelming pressure that the sheer number of their enemies provided.

Not only was their seemingly endless number the problem, but the gradual increase in their power was starting to become a huge factor in this battle.

The strength, skills, and intelligence of this army of jiangshi were starting to become a huge headache for everyone.

Not only were they becoming more powerful and more intelligent, but also starting to utilize a magnitude of strategies when dealing with their opposition.

When fighting against Aoki, who seemed to be the greatest threat among the group due to his strong attacks and powerful slaughtering array, the jiangshi army started utilizing a combat array of their own.

Moreover, the combat array that they were using was an ancient combat array that was not only meant to deal with the opposing slaughtering array but also targeting core strength of their opposition.

Through this, Aoki was forced to halt his advance and focus more on defenses. If he was not careful, then he was meant to face an even stronger suppression coming from the opposing forces.

He had to ward off their advances first while also looking for a way to deal with their combat array.

On the other side of the battlefield, Arthur was also facing a similar problem.

The army of jiangshi on his side was also using a battle formation of its own. However, instead of something that was meant to deal with opposing battle formations, they were using something that was meant to subjugate a powerful beast during ancient times.

Not only did they have a specific strategy for dealing with a special or mythical creature, such as the dragon Arthur was riding, but they also possessed tools meant to be used alongside their battle formation, which further amplified their overall effectiveness.

Most of them were using chained sickles that were reinforced with certain modifications and powerful enchantments, while the others had huge harpoons with similar properties.

His dragon pet, which had transformed into a colossal dragon, was struggling to deal with these weapons, which greatly targeted its wings and legs.

It had suffered quite a lot of injuries. Most of them might be light scratches and superficial, but due to those weapons being coated by potent poison, such injuries would gradually become a problem in the long run.

If not for the powerful tenacity and endurance of the dragon bloodline, then such injuries would most likely have caused serious damage already.

Fortunately, the Divine Golden Dragon Clan that Arthur and his pet belonged to had strong resistance against almost everyone’s poisons and venoms in existence.

Unless it was something that came from the Poison Dragon Clan or the venoms from mythical creatures, then such a toxin was nothing to them.

If there was something that Arthur needed to be wary of, then it could only be the poisons or venoms that came from the Ten Great Poisonous Beings of ancient times or the Twenty-Four Venomous Branches that were right beneath those ten.

It was said that those ten poisonous beings could rival the mythical creatures that could only be heard of in the legends.

He did not know that much about them. But since Aoki had repeatedly warned him about them earlier, he had to at least be extra careful when dealing with these guys.

“From what Senior Laurent has said earlier, these jiangshi were just one of the problems that we have to deal with. Once the four Great General Kings have gotten involved in the battle, the situation will most likely become even more serious.”

“The poison methods of the Ancient Tang Clan have yet to appear along with the poisonous and venomous creatures that they are supposed to control.”

“The hidden weapons, which are one of their expertise are also not being shown by any of these jiangshi. This can only mean that their most elite units have yet to make their appearance.”

Thinking about this, Arthur could not help but furrow his brows even deeper, especially when only over two hours had passed.

Two hours was neither long nor short, but a lot could happen in that time. The group had also spent quite a considerable amount of energy during the process.

Even though Aoki and the side of the Dragon Pavilion were only relying on special arrays to conserve as much energy as possible.

At most, they had to spend the strategic supplies that they brought, such as mana stone,s to supplement the slaughtering array and sacred territory with enough energy.

However, they could not let this last for that long since they would most likely run out of supplies before they could even wipe out the entire army.

They could also use some of the magic scrolls that they had brought to wipe out a huge portion of the jiangshi army. Unfortunately, they only had a limited number of them, which was why they had to be careful and mindful when using them.

Gunner, who was very active since the very beginning of this final trial, had also started to feel some fatigue.

Even though it was nothing compared to other situations that he had experienced before, such as sieges, wars, and city defense events that lasted for days, continuously fighting such an endless horde of monsters was still hard to deal with.

He was not sure whether he would be able to last long until the entire trial had ended, even with the help of Luminous Dragon and the special array that he had set up.

This could still lead him to serious consequences, especially when it came to dealing huge army of monsters like this.

Looking around, he realized that he would most likely be the one to become exhausted first. After all, he was the only person among the group to fight actively and personally against these jiangshi.

The rest were either relying on their summoned creatures or special arrays to deal with the army of jiangshi, conserving as much strength as they could.

Because of this, he could not help but fall into a dilemma. He was not sure if he would go all out and wipe out as many jiangshi as he could or stay his hand for a while, taking a small break and recovering some energy.

He was thinking about this when a sudden sense of dread engulfed him.

“Sh*t!”

It was already too late for him to respond properly because a ghostly silhouette had already manifested right behind him and swiftly struck his exposed back.

Shing!

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Fortunately, he was not completely helpless before it. He was still able to place the metal box between himself and his assaulter, protecting himself from any deadly damage.

Bang! Bang!

Right after, he was sent flying out of the sacred sanctuary that Luminous Dragon had set up and landing in a distance, where a huge number of jiangshi were highly concentrated.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

Boom!

He was quite far from any one of the group as well, which indicated that he was fully isolated from anyone else.

Raising his head, he immediately saw that a massive horde of jiangshi was heading his direction.

Roar! Roar! Roar! Roar! Roar!

“F*ck!” he could only curse when he saw this before quickly entering his strongest state.

He knew that he could not afford to hold back now, especially when he could clearly see that this bunch of jiangshi were somewhat different from the ones that he was fighting earlier.

Boom!

In the meantime, both Luminous Dragon and Tyrant Dragon immediately made their move when they realized that Gunner was being attacked right within the sacred sanctuary.

Luminous Dragon swiftly cast a series of spells, trying to save Gunner with the best of his abilities, while Tyrant Dragon suddenly transformed into an arc of lightning that arrived in that spot in almost an instant.

Unfortunately, they were still a step too late because the assaulter was a bit too fast for them.

They did not have to guess who it was since there were only two people, who suddenly disappeared right after their initial performance earlier.

“You sly snakes!” shouted Tyrant Dragon in hatred after seeing Gunner sent flying toward the opposite direction.

Crackle! Crackle!

He appeared before the other in almost an instant, striking with his spear as fast and powerfully as he could.

Swoosh!

Unfortunately, the other party simply executed a series of mysterious movements with their feet before disappearing right before his eyes.

Poof!

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted in that spot right after he struck with his spear, sending a destructive beam of lightning before him.

Crackle! Crackle!

The area before him was empty because of the powerful beam of lightning that he just sent out. It had wiped out a huge portion of the jiangshi army.

Unfortunately, his main target was not caught in that attack.

Swoosh!

It was at this moment that Luminous Dragon appeared beside him through ‘Blink’, afraid that he would be ambushed by the other Hydra Guild member.

“Tsk! He sure runs fast,” Tyrant Dragon clicked his tongue after seeing that their opponent managed to escape at the final moment.

In the meantime, Luminous Dragon could not help but frown deeply while turning his head toward the direction where Gunner was sent flying.

“They have gotten us good this time,” he mumbled, finding the situation a bit troublesome while also pitying Gunner at the same time.
