Chapter 2067 - 2067: An Attrition Battle? Bring It On!
……
Right after Chaotic Luck took the stage, his opponent from the Black Market also stood and walked onto the battlefield.
Seeing the opponent, Arthur, who was watching from their platform, could not help but frown deeply. “That guy-… he shouldn’t be ordinary, especially when he has become a Transcendent Being.”
He had seen this person from the previous trial. He was the one who represented the Black Market from that round, who seemed to be guarding the other person who came with them.
This person made quite an impression on him because of how he watched over that third person. He preferred keeping an eye on that person rather than focusing on the entirety of the trial.
It was as if they did not care about the trail at all and were only there to join the fun.
At least, that was what Arthur was thinking, given their previous actions.
However, he did not have much information about this guy aside from the unique aura that he was emitting.
“He is dangerous. Unfortunately for him, his opponent was an oddity,” he mumbled before lazing on the floor of the platform.
……
Adelbert, the current right-hand man of Gunner, was an expert himself. His role in the Black Market branch that they were managing might look a bit lackluster and easygoing.
He was nothing but an assistant.
At least, that was what he looked like on the surface.
However, he had another identity that very few people knew. He was the hidden supervisor sent by the main branch of the Black Market to oversee the matters in the said branch that he was in.
He was meant to monitor all the movements within the branch in a low-profile manner while also keeping an eye on certain recruits that had recently joined their organizations, particularly the more skilled ones.
Adelbert was meant to keep an eye on Gunner, who had joined them due to certain circumstances.
He was the assistant on the surface, but his true identity was much higher than the latter in terms of true authority within the branch.
He first thought that his job would be quite a boring one, especially when Gunner was not as complicated as the other subjects that he had observed before.
But who would have thought that something interesting would happen during his time of boredom?
“To think that there is a kid here who is familiar with ancient medical and medicinal knowledge. He is also quite skilled at Poison Arts, which greatly complements all that knowledge.”
“I guess investing that Transcendent Inheritance is quite worth it,” he mumbled before raising his head and looking at his current opponent. “What’s more, these ancient ruins will surely point us toward the legacy left behind by the Legendary Dark King of the Ancient Tang Clan, Tang Hyeon.”
“My merits within the organization will surely skyrocket so long as I handle this well,” he chuckled, imagining how his rank would rise once all this was over.
After that, the expression on his face suddenly turned sharp while staring at his opponent. “Before that, I have to handle this troublesome guy, who is very hard to read.”
“He is neither an apex expert nor a complete rookie, but someone who always hovered between those two. I wonder which way is the most effective to deal with him.”
He pursed his lips for a moment before mumbling. “Based on the clues that I have in hand, there is a high chance that this guy is the famous Herald of Chaos of the Empyrean Talons, Chaotic Luck, the master of the Legion of Chaotic Sun.”
“I want to go all out and try to overwhelm him with the best that I have. Unfortunately, I still have to control myself and be a bit more low profile to avoid exposing my true identity too early.”
Thinking for a moment, he pursed his lips before sighing. “I guess I have no other choice but to use that thing.”
“If I lose, then so be it. After all, my current job here is just to keep an eye on these guys and report everything to the higher-ups. As for the others, they are nothing but a bunch of extras.”
“Of course, making sure that everything has worked well by working in the shadows will greatly boost my achievements.”
“Let’s see, how will this scroll work against a necromancer this time?” he mumbled while taking out a somewhat tattered scroll from his inventory.
He did not immediately rip it off and just intently stared at Chaotic Luck’s actions.
On the other side of the field, Chaotic Luck seemed to have felt something. He felt a tingling sensation throughout his body due to being subjected to such an intense gaze from his opponent.
He felt like a fish on a chopping block.
Doing his best to shake off this feeling, Chaotic Luck recollected his thoughts and immediately started summoning his legion almost immediately.
Just like earlier, he managed to summon his legion and organized their battle formation almost immediately with the help of the special buffs that he currently had.
It did not take long before his legion filled the battlefield with their numbers.
It was similar to the previous battles that he had underwent from earlier. It was also clear that he was already getting used to this style and sudden boosts in his overall abilities.
The others, who were watching from their respective platforms, had also noticed this. They all acknowledged that Chaotic Luck was slowly getting steadier when it came to summoning and controlling his summoned creatures.
However, something unexpected happened on the other side of the battlefield, where Adelbert was standing.
Swoosh!
Roar! Roar! Roar!
A similarly large legion of undead creatures appeared from that side and filled the other half of the battlefield with their numbers.
Moreover, it was not just the regular army, but something that greatly resembled the Legion of Chaotic Sun that Chaotic Luck controlled.
Not just their appearance, but their presence and formation greatly resembled one another.
“Eh!? What is happening!?” Chaotic Luck was caught off guard, especially when he saw that the opposing side greatly mirrored his forces.
His first thought was that his opponent was a necromancer just like himself. However, this thought immediately changed after seeing the scroll from the latter’s hands, which was releasing a huge mana fluctuation.
Moreover, there was a clear silhouette standing right beside him, which seemed to be connected to the tattered scroll that he just ripped.
The appearance of that figure might be blurry due to a mysterious veil shrouding it, but it was also quite clear that this figure greatly resembled Chaotic Luck.
With such an obvious clue, it was not hard for everyone to guess what happened – Adelbert cloned Chaotic Luck as well as the entire Legion of the Chaotic Sun.
“You have an overpowered undead army, right? Then let’s see how you are going to deal with them,” mumbled Adelbert while wearing a huge grin.
“Let’s see if you can beat yourself,” he smirked.
…
“A mirror battle?” Leonard, who was watching alone from their team’s original platform, could not help but raise his brows after seeing the actions of the opposing side, especially after seeing how the latter mirrored Chaotic Luck’s Legion of Chaotic Sun.
“For average players, dealing with their own strategy and strengths is going to be incredibly challenging.”
“Meanwhile, for those great experts with a lot of experience, such a strategy will only backfire. After all, such experts knew themselves better than others, so it is natural for them to know their own weakness.”
Leonard then started shaking his head while smiling helplessly. “It may work against others, but against Chaotic Luck? I am not sure if it is a good plan or a suicide attempt.”
…
“Are you sure that your friend will be fine with this?”
Back at the trial ground, Riko could not help but ask Arthur, especially after hearing the latter’s words just now.
“I am telling you, Senior. That guy is an incomprehensible existence even for us,” answered Arthur before continuing. “Tactics? That kid has a few of them, and he even learn it from the ‘worst’ guy possible. Instincts? I am not even sure if he has it, but his other weapon is what makes him dangerous.”
“Anyway, what I am saying is-… using such a strategy against that guy is useless, especially when the patterns of his attacks are a bit-… strange, which is more effective against people who understand tactics very well.”
…
On the battlefield, Chaotic Luck was somewhat taken aback by the sudden appearance of the opposing side’s army, especially when they mirrored the battle formation of his side.
However, he quickly recovered himself, especially when he recalled a similar situation when playing that strategy game that Arthur and Shin had recommended.
“The first step in breaking a mirror game is to force a direct collision between both sides more often while replenishing your forces with steady numbers,” he mumbled, recalling the lessons that he had gotten from the matches that he had gotten from that game.
