Chapter 282: Chapter 192: Facing a Heartfelt Confession, Lu Fan Has Another Daughter-in-Law?

Jiang Sifan froze for a moment, then turned to look at her. "What’s wrong?"

He Lingyi’s face was slightly flushed, but she didn’t let go. Instead, she gently tightened her grip on his wrist.

"I just... wanted to say your name," she said, her voice soft.

Jiang Sifan felt the warmth of her palm, and a sudden panic rose in his heart.

He wanted to pull his hand back, but he felt that would be too obvious. He had no choice but to pretend that everything was normal.

Seeing that he didn’t pull away, He Lingyi grew a little bolder.

She slowly leaned her head over, resting it gently on his shoulder.

Jiang Sifan’s body stiffened.

"Brother Sifan, can I just lean on you for a little while?" He Lingyi whispered. "Just for a bit."

Jiang Sifan didn’t know what to say, so he could only manage an "Mm."

He Lingyi rested on his shoulder, taking in his faint, pleasant scent. Her heart felt as sweet as if she had eaten honey.

Her hand was still holding his wrist, and she could feel his pulse, THUMP-THUMP-THUMP, beating a little fast.

She knew he was nervous.

She was nervous too, her own heart pounding, but more than that, she was happy.

The two of them sat there on the bleachers, neither saying a word.

The sun shone down on them, warm and pleasant. The clamor from the sports field in the distance drifted over, only making their spot feel exceptionally quiet.

After a while, He Lingyi suddenly lifted her head and looked at his side profile.

His features were handsome—a high nose bridge and long eyelashes. As she watched him, her heart began to race again.

She slowly moved a little closer, and then a little closer still, right until their faces were about to touch.

Jiang Sifan gave an awkward cough. "Um... Lingyi, look over there. That guy is a really good soccer player."

He Lingyi’s face turned as red as a ripe apple, but she didn’t look away. Instead, she said softly, "Brother Sifan, I like you."

Jiang Sifan opened his mouth, but he didn’t know what to say.

Seeing his expression, He Lingyi felt a little panicked, but she still summoned her courage and said, "I know I haven’t even started college yet and I shouldn’t be thinking about this stuff, but I can’t help it. Every time you help me with my homework, every time you call me, I feel so happy. The night you came to see me, I went home and was too excited to sleep."

Her eyes were a little red, but she was still smiling. "I’m not asking you to agree to anything. I just... I just wanted you to know."

Jiang Sifan was silent for a long time.

He looked at the girl before him—at her reddened eyes, at her nervous and expectant expression—and his thoughts were suddenly a mess.

He knew he should refuse her.

But the words were stuck in his throat, and he couldn’t get them out.

Finally, he sighed and said softly, "He Lingyi, you’re still young."

He Lingyi shook her head and said stubbornly, "I’m not young. I’m already an adult."

Jiang Sifan gave a wry smile, not knowing what else to say.

He Lingyi looked at him and suddenly smiled again. "You don’t have to answer me now. Anyway... I’ll study hard. You can think about it after I get into college."

As she spoke, she leaned gently against his shoulder again and whispered, "Let me lean on you for a little longer, okay? Just for a little bit."

Jiang Sifan didn’t push her away.

The two of them sat there on the bleachers, neither saying a word.

The sun was warm, the breeze was gentle. In the distance, on the sports field, people were laughing and shouting.

In that moment, it seemed as if nothing else mattered.

「Meanwhile, Wen Wan had arrived at the studio early that morning.」

She had set an alarm for herself: she had to finish her task of reconciling the accounts within two hours.

After she was done, she had to immediately start helping Jiang Sifan with his tasks.

As for why she was doing this, it was because she felt the class president was simply too tired and wanted to help him with some of his work.

As long as he was happy, Wen Wan felt happy too.
