Chapter 281: Chapter 192: Facing a Heartfelt Confession, Lu Fan Has Another Daughter-in-Law?

Pan Lanfang was still talking, and Jiang Guoqiang nodded along beside her.

Seeing this, Lu Fan knew his plan was proceeding smoothly.

...

That night, Jiang Guoqiang and Pan Lanfang lay in bed, talking about Lu Fan.

Pan Lanfang asked, "Husband, don’t you think this Xiaolu is a bit too good to us?"

Jiang Guoqiang sighed. "He is. He buys our groceries, takes us to the doctor, and today he even helped us with chores all day. That kid... he’s really something else. He probably feels for us. After all, he’s a young leader in the county, wanting to show some extra care for us seniors. It seems our government has quite a few young people who really get things done."

Pan Lanfang fell silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "Husband, what do you think... about setting him up with our Yixia?"

Jiang Guoqiang froze for a second, then turned his head to look at her. "What did you say?"

Pan Lanfang replied, "I’m saying, that Xiaolu is such a good person, and he’s not married. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if he could be our son-in-law?"

Jiang Guoqiang was quiet for a moment before shaking his head. "Don’t get carried away. Xiaolu is such a good catch. He works for the county, he’s educated and capable. Would he really be interested in our Yixia? And Yixia has two children."

Pan Lanfang immediately shot back, "So what? Our Yixia is beautiful and capable, and she even started her own flower shop. Besides, Xiaolu doesn’t seem like the type to care about wealth and status."

Jiang Guoqiang still shook his head. "That may be true, but we don’t know what he’s thinking. He’s a leader in the county; who knows how many girls have their eyes on him. What if he isn’t interested in our daughter? It would be so awkward. He’d probably stop visiting after that."

But Pan Lanfang didn’t agree with him. "How will we know if we don’t ask? The next time he visits, I’ll sound him out."

Jiang Guoqiang thought about it for a moment and didn’t object further.

The old couple chatted for a little while longer before drifting off to sleep.

...

「Meanwhile.」

「At the entrance of Jinling Institute of Technology.」

He Lingyi stood at the school gate, holding a small bag in her hand, a hopeful smile on her face.

She had dressed up specially for the occasion, her hair tied in a high ponytail. She wore a light pink sweatshirt and white sneakers, looking vibrant and youthful.

She had been so excited last night she could barely sleep, and had taken a bus over first thing in the morning.

She pulled out her phone and sent a message to Jiang Sifan: [Brother Sifan, I’m at your school gate!]

After sending the text, she stood there waiting, her eyes constantly scanning the campus grounds.

Ever since she had hugged Jiang Sifan that day, He Lingyi had been thinking about visiting him at his university over the weekend.

Jiang Sifan quickly replied: [?? You’re here at the university? Wait for me.]

About ten minutes later, Jiang Sifan appeared at the school gate.

He was wearing a simple black T-shirt and jeans and walking quickly.

"What are you doing here?" Jiang Sifan asked with some surprise as he walked up to her.

He Lingyi smiled. "It’s the weekend, so I wanted to come see your university and get a feel for what college life is like."

Seeing that her mood seemed to have improved, Jiang Sifan asked, "Feeling better?"

He Lingyi nodded. "Much better! I reviewed the problems you went over with me that night, and I feel like I understand them a lot better now. Plus, the notes you gave me were incredibly helpful. I studied them all night."

Jiang Sifan smiled. "That’s good."

"I brought you breakfast. I went out of my way to buy it this morning." He Lingyi handed him the bag.

Jiang Sifan took it and opened it to find several warm steamed buns.

A warmth spread through his chest. "Thanks," he said.

They chatted as they walked, with Jiang Sifan giving her a tour of the campus.

"This is the main academic building. Most of our classes are in here," Jiang Sifan said, pointing to the building ahead of them.

He Lingyi looked up at the towering building, her eyes filled with longing. "It’s amazing. I hope I can get in here someday."

Jiang Sifan encouraged her, "If you study hard, you can definitely get in. In fact, with your current grades, you could already get into Jinling Institute of Technology. But I believe you can aim even higher. Your target should be Jinling University!"

He Lingyi turned to look at him, smiling as she shook her head. "No, I want Jinling Institute of Technology! I want to be with you."

Faced with the girl’s forwardness, Jiang Sifan didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Still, he didn’t try to persuade her otherwise.

’Perhaps He Lingyi’s opinion will change after the college entrance exam scores are released.’

’After all, who wouldn’t want to go to a better school?’

The two continued walking and soon arrived at the library entrance.

He Lingyi stood on the steps, looking at the magnificent building, and said in a small voice, "There must be so many books in here, right?"

Jiang Sifan nodded. "Over a million."

"Wow," He Lingyi breathed, her eyes lighting up.

After the library, they went to the athletic field.

The field was bustling with activity; some people were playing soccer, others were jogging.

He Lingyi watched the energetic university students, her heart filled with envy.

"Brother Sifan, do you guys come here to run often?"

Jiang Sifan explained, "Occasionally. We don’t have time when things get busy."

He Lingyi nodded, then suddenly pointed to the bleachers in the distance. "Can we go sit over there for a while? I’m a little tired."

Without a second thought, Jiang Sifan led her over.

The two of them sat down on the bleachers.

He Lingyi hugged her knees, watching the people on the field, and suddenly said in a soft voice, "Brother Sifan, thank you for showing me around the university today."

Jiang Sifan chuckled. "It’s no problem. You don’t get to visit very often."

He Lingyi turned her head to look at him, her eyes holding an unreadable emotion.

She watched him for a few seconds, then suddenly reached out and tugged on his sleeve.

"Brother Sifan," she called out softly.
