Chapter 233: Chapter 171: The Penthouse Suite is 88,000 a Night?
Liu Shiting huffed and started complaining, "You said you’d buy me a 5 Series, but you just had to get me a 3 Series. And now you’re saying it’s not presentable."
"Well, I was just worried that it wouldn’t look right for a first-year university girl like you to be driving a car that’s too expensive," Mrs. Liu teased awkwardly.
Liu Shiting didn’t respond. She just took the car keys her mom handed her and left.
She and Jiang Sifan had arranged to meet at a Starbucks near the entrance of the School of Science and Technology.
Liu Shiting deliberately timed her arrival. She watched from a distance as Jiang Sifan approached the Starbucks entrance, only getting out of the driver’s seat when he was close.
Jiang Sifan noticed Liu Shiting, too. He hadn’t expected her to show up in a BMW.
Of course, at his age, he didn’t bother trying to distinguish between a 3 Series and a 5 Series.
As far as he was concerned, for a first-year university student to be driving a BMW, she had to be from a wealthy background.
Besides, she was dressed beautifully today—even more so than the last time he’d seen her.
She wore a modern Chinese-style pink dress that perfectly balanced her youthful charm with a noble air.
Over it, she wore a short, pink and white jacquard brocade blouse. The fabric had a delicate, pearlescent sheen, and the subtle, flowing patterns gave it an air of high-end sophistication.
The white lace camisole she wore underneath revealed her delicate collarbones, and the light pink mesh skirt draped exquisitely, resting gently against her legs.
It had to be said, every one of Liu Shiting’s movements exuded a gentle, elegant composure.
Like the cherished daughter of a wealthy family.
In the past, Jiang Sifan might have felt too insecure to even greet her.
But now, he had his own startup workshop, more or less.
As the saying goes, money breeds confidence. And while he hadn’t earned much yet, Jiang Sifan felt that, given time, his workshop was bound to grow and thrive.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," Jiang Sifan said, waving a hand in greeting.
Liu Shiting smiled. "Not at all, I just got here myself. Shall we go in?"
"Okay."
Although Jiang Sifan had been to Starbucks twice before, he was still unfamiliar with the cafe’s atmosphere and its menu.
Liu Shiting walked up to the counter first. She turned to Jiang Sifan and asked, "What would you like to drink? It’s on me today."
Jiang Sifan immediately shook his head. "How could I let a girl pay? I’ll get it. I’ll have a..."
He glanced at the menu and, in the end, settled on the most common choice: a Frappuccino.
But Liu Shiting insisted, "I’m the one asking for your help today, after all. Besides, Silu helps me out all the time, so let me treat her brother to a drink. That’s not too much to ask, is it?"
Sure enough, with an argument like that, Jiang Sifan had no choice but to agree, no matter how much he wanted to insist on paying.
In fact, her words made him develop a better impression of this well-mannered, well-bred girl.
The two of them sat down, and Liu Shiting began asking Jiang Sifan about his startup.
Since this was the only impressive experience Jiang Sifan had to share at the moment, he naturally described it in vivid detail.
Throughout his story, Liu Shiting would chime in with words of encouragement, "Wow, you’re so amazing!"
Her praise even made Jiang Sifan a little embarrassed at times. "But the credit isn’t all mine," he said humbly. "I have a partner who’s helped me a lot. You could say that without her, my workshop wouldn’t even exist."
"I’m so jealous of your partner," Liu Shiting replied. "If only I went to the School of Science and Technology, then I could be there to learn about entrepreneurship from you."
Hearing all this praise made Jiang Sifan blush.
"Oh, by the way," Liu Shiting suggested, "why don’t we take a drive around your campus? You can give me a tour!"
"Sure!"
So the two of them went outside, and Liu Shiting invited Jiang Sifan into her car.
At first, Jiang Sifan hesitated, wondering whether he should sit in the back or the front passenger seat.
Liu Shiting chuckled. "Go ahead and sit in the front. I don’t have a boyfriend, so you don’t need to worry."
"That’s not what I meant," Jiang Sifan said, embarrassed.
However, Liu Shiting’s comment also sent Jiang Sifan a clear message: she was single.
Of course, that wasn’t exactly crucial information for Jiang Sifan.
With that, the two of them drove onto campus.
When Liu Shiting saw Jiang Sifan looking at the car’s interior, she explained, "Actually, this car isn’t mine, it’s my mom’s. My own car isn’t this nice, haha."
Jiang Sifan replied, "I heard from Silu. You’re only a first-year and you already have your own car—that’s amazing. If I hadn’t earned a little money from my startup, I wouldn’t have even splurged on an electric scooter."
"I think electric scooters are great! I really like them, but I don’t know how to ride one. No one’s ever taught me," Liu Shiting said, feigning embarrassment.
"You don’t know how to ride one? Haha, I can teach you sometime," Jiang Sifan said, his interest suddenly piqued.
"Okay! But I’m a really slow learner. It took me ages to pass my driver’s test, so please don’t get tired of me," Liu Shiting said, feigning helplessness.
"Don’t worry, I’m a pro at teaching people."
As they toured the campus, Jiang Sifan and Liu Shiting gradually progressed from being mere nodding acquaintances to finding plenty to talk about.
The car was even filled with bursts of laughter from time to time.
It was clear that Liu Shiting was enjoying her conversation with Jiang Sifan.
Jiang Sifan thought so, too.
But as they passed the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Building, he glanced up at the open door of their third-floor classroom and was suddenly reminded of Wen Wan, who was still inside, working hard.
’And here I am, laughing and joking in a car with another girl.’
’Ah, damn it!’
A strange sense of guilt suddenly washed over him.
’Even though Wen Wan and I aren’t a couple, I can’t help but feel like a total scumbag for what I’m doing right now!’
